Do "mean" and "vicious" dog breeds exist

Let's get one thing straight. There is no such thing as a "vicious" dog breed. The truth is that ANY breed of dog, big or small, can develop aggression. Aggression is a symptom of an unsatisfied dog; a dog whose life is not being fulfilled. Some breeds, including "pit bulls," Rottweilers, and German Shepherds, are more powerful than other breeds, so if they become aggressive, they can almost always do much more damage. Smaller dogs, like Chihuahuas, can often be defensive when fearful or nervous - you'd be a little surly too if you were constantly being treated like a purse! But when dogs of all shapes, sizes, and breeds are treated and cared for properly, they have the potential to be calm and balanced pets. You may remember "NuNu," from the first season of Dog Whisperer. He was very human-aggressive, so much so that my producers dubbed him the "Demon Chihuahua." This episode I'll introduce you to Bandit, or "Nunu, II," as my crew called him. I've met a lot of "demon" Chihuahuas in my career; in fact, Coco, the Chihuahua in my pack, was once one of them. Like Nunu and Bandit, Coco was very human-aggressive and much of her hostility was directed towards kids. Now rehabilitated, Coco not only helps with the rehabilitation of other unstable dogs, she is one of my family's most trusted family pets - and the special dog of my youngest son, Calvin.

PLEASE HELP Dog Whisperer!!! You are my last hope. My son and daughter have each adopted a white/brown spotted female pit-bulls. One is a boxer-mix and is 3 ,but the other is pretty much all pit, almost 2. Each dog is fine alone, but when they come home for a holiday to visit, our world is turned upside down! The two dogs do not get along at all and I have to put one upstairs and the other in the basement.

I understand the dogs are of an aggressive breed, but I need to find a way to work this out before the next holdiay.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read my e-mail and hopefully you will be able to help me out. I've seen what you have done with some pretty interesting dogs and I just know you can help our family with these two dogs.

In this blog entry, you referred to Coco as a female and then as a male. I just wanted to give you a heads up on the typo.

Your show is wonderful.

======================================================

*Thanks for the heads-up. The typo has been fixed!

I have been watching your show and learning a lot about calm confidence and how effective it is (it has certainly helped with my wolf/mal mix - who is much better behaved than a lot of the dogs you deal with on TV by the way).
I have also been taking close note of the importance of walking the dogs and maintaining control while doing so (not easy with a skittish wolf mix - at all!). I may be mistaken here but it seems that you typically use a specific type of leash/collar (it looks like a leash and collar in one, made of nylon. Like a leash with a 'slip-knot' as the collar?). I haven't been able to find anything resembling this on the public market so far. I realize that you cannot address this via email but could you address it on one of your shows?
Thanks for all your help!
Angela

The leash you are referring to is just a $.25 leash, my veterinarian uses them all the time. You can make your own with a piece of laundry line. If you watch all the episodes, Cesar seems to use whatever leash/collar combination that is available at the time. I suspect he is using the cheapo leash because the owners didn't have anything handy.

Watching this show has helped me deal with an aggressive stray we took in 3 years ago. Up until a few months ago, she would growl at my children on a regular basis. After watching your shows, we all learned how to become pack leaders. Our dog's behavior improved tremendously by adjusting our behavior and actions. I can't wait for the new season. Congratulations Ceasar! Your success is well deserved.

Great to see a blog for Dog Whisperer.

Thanks for the shows. They remind even us experienced dog owners of what we should/shouldn't be doing. After a while, we all start to slip into bad behaviors.

Since watching the episodes, I've thrown away the retractable leashes I was using and have gone to a double-ended lead for my two dogs. I feel so much more in control, the dogs are walking well again, and the single leash is so much more easy to handle than two retractables. I'm not sure why I didn't get rid of those leashes sooner...I just didn't realize the bad behavior those leashes were reinforcing, and how dangerous they were in a city setting. I'm sure there is a use for them (every tool has a use), but not for city walking.

Best wishes for the show--keep them episodes coming!

I can't wait for the new season to begin. We adopted a 3 year old cocker spaniel from a family who were not upfront with us on her behavior. We already had a Toller that we found at a pound. Amber, the toller, is a submissive dog, while Luna the cocker definitely wants to be the alpha dog with the whole family. She's been diagnosed with crystals in her urine and we were told by our vet to cut out all table scraps, which we have done. We had to change her food and cut it back to 1 cup in the am and 1 cup in the pm, with an antibiotic. We always keep their dishes full of dog food. I've had to put barriers on the couch and chair and they are both banned from sleeping on our bed because she had urinated on that a number of times. But, our problem is, she is urinating everywhere around the house and we can never catch her in the act. It happens probably once a week. My husband has noticed that she seems to pick Amber's sleeping area to urinate on also. She has also started to growl and snap at Amber as well. I caught her in the act the other day and grabbed her by the neck and got right in her face and growled at her no. She started shaking so I figured she got the message. We are at our wits end with her. I am also upset because the woman we got her from was not honest with us about her behavior. I am hoping Cesar has an episode on how to deal with an extremely alpha dog who is pushing around our extremely submissive dog. Any comments from readers would be greatly appreciated.

I am a letter carrier and have been charged by all sorts of breeds of dogs. I now have a real fear and I wish someone could help me to calm down about these dogs. I love dogs and have one of my own but when a dog comes out of nowhere and starts barking it sort of unnerves you. I love watching the show and I am trying not to be so afraid.

I have 2 Jack Russells; both rescues who want to to be the alpha's. They are both females and must be seperated at all times. I love them dearly. I have even tried putting muzels on them. Then they behave like angels.

Dear Ceasar and Staff,

I love your show and look forward to each episode. I heard your radio promotion in Boston on WROR. Tom had a question about his dogs, who defecate inside and outside the home. He was frustrated because he walks them many times outside. One of my common complaints from owners is that they took the puppy outside for 45 minutes and it comes in and urinates or defecates in the house. I think Tom's dog has associated outside with playing, walking or general sight seeing and indoors with defecating. He needs to stop taking the dog outside for playing or walking for a few days. Then take the dog out to do his business 20 minutes after eating. Then pair condition this with a voice command, such as Hurry up. Fold his arms over his chest and look away from the dog. If the dog doesn't go in 2 minutes he isn't learning anything and he should put him into the crate for ~30 minutes and try this again. Tom may want to feed the dogs where they are defecating. We want to make defecating outside pleasant and inside unpleasant.

I had a pug that wouldn't urinate in the rain. I used this method all day and she held her urine until 3:30 pm. After that day all I did was tell her to Hurry up and she would pee on command. With race horses, trainers whistle and pair conditon them to urinate on command. That way they can obtain a clean urine sample for drug analysis after every race. I hope that helps. Thanks for all your help.

Blog was an excellent idea. Glad to see a newsletter going around now as well. Season 2 is set on the TiVo! Can't Wait!!

Thanks so much for all your help on the show & DVD. When does the Dog Whisperer DVD Set come out?? I hope it has some behind the scenes stuff. I bet your outtakes would be hilarious!

My dog, MAYZY, really thanks ya for your help! =)

We adopted a 1 year old English Bulldog named Hank. He is so wonderful. We have been watching the show since the first episode. It is one of our favorite shows. But we are having a little problem with our dog. When he is approched by a smaller dog he starts to chase them. He will not leave the smaller dogs alone. He has really scared some dogs to the point where they now are afraid of all types of dogs. We have tried diffent ways to prevent him but he will not leave them alone. Thanks for helping us out.

My tivo is set for all the new episodes & we also cannot wait. Last season I put several episodes on VHS tapes and gave them out to people who i knew would appreciate & enjoy the shows. They were all very thankful & now all watch the show. I forwarded them the email newsletter so they can watch the new season. My suggestion is for everyone who watches the show, to tape a few episodes and give it to someone they know can use some dog tips. I've gotten many people to watch the show now. All of them had never heard of the show. So everyone should do their friend, co-worker, groomer, family member, parent - a favor & TAKE a tape to them. Don't just tell them about it. They all feel enlightened. Thank you so much Cesar & please do a seminar in Chicago.

It was such a pleasure to meet Cesar at his seminar in Baltimore last year. What an inspiration he is! He has so much to share with dog owner's everywhere that will make the lives of our beloved companions so much more fulfilling! We are so looking forward to this new season of Dog Whisperer! Cesar, bring it on!

Cesar is sacred in my home. Often we ask each other, "What would Cesar do?" when dealing with dog (or owner) behavior issues like the serious one we have now.

Five months ago, we adopted a second dog "Rocky", a 1 yr old, 35 lb, mixed breed. He's agressive towards strange people and dogs, and also my cat. Animal Control showed up at my front door last week after recievng a call from a female jogger who felt very threatened by Rocky. He also nipped my dog loving pest control guy, chased the Fedex guy back into his truck, tried to attack people or dogs on walks.

We love this dog and want to overcome this issue, but I am afraid that he will be taken away and/or I will be sued. At this point we are being very diligent in being pack leader on walks and keeping him under control in general.

Any suggestions on how to get help would be appreciated. Would love to know the cost of having him spend time with Cesar and his pack.

Is the first season of Dog Whisperer out in DVD format? If it is I would love to be able to either rent the episodes or purchase the episodes at my local Hastings store.Could someone help me with this information? I would appreciate it tremendously.Thank You

My 2 year old Akita, Spencer, and I both watch your show. It brings the phrase, 'quality time' to a new height. I am interested and most curious in the dogs you have saved which you show in the yard as your 'psychological assistants' when you bring in a dog client that needs help. Would you consider a show that would introduce them? To me, to be surrounded by so many dogs, is pure nirvana.
Thank you for teaching and guiding us toward a better communication between dogs and their persons.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoy your show. Your ideas of pack mentality make good sense. I have two dogs. One german shepard male that is completely passive and a mix female husky. The female is the alpha dog. Don't really have any bad issues with the dogs but love your show. Keep up the good work.

I new to the Dog Whisperer show and love it.
Here is my situation
I have 2 Chihuahua, they are 13 & 3, and we just got a ROT, at age 6 weeks, she is now 6 months. What a combination, anyway, the rot wants to play and the Chihauaha's do not want to have anything to do with her, Rot is always hitting them with her paws, and will not stop bugging the 13 year old, my 3 year old charges at the Rot everytime she walks by, I am afraid the Rot will hurt her on accident, any suggestions ?

We also have the Dog Whispered "Tivo'd" so we never miss a show! Our boxer, Chase, had a problem with other dogs while on his lease, but after watching a show that dealt with that problem we tried your rememdy and he responded right away! Thank Cesar for your great show!

I can still remember watching Cesar's show for the first time. I watch pretty much anything I can find on science, nature, or my great passion...dogs.

Well, after nearly forty years of interacting with and observing dogs, and also helping dogs and owners, I found I related to dogs in a "different" way than a trainer usually does. I have never been impressed with most training methods, and always felt there was something missing in the standard philosophies.

I thought I'd seen it all. So, I started out like, okay let's see what the latest angle on dog "training" is...and then, I could not believe what I was seeing! This guy clearly understood how dogs think, communicate, and relate to a pack leader. The more I watched, the more amazed I was.

Cesar doesn't condition a dog. He clearly understands how a dog thinks as a social creature, and communicates with a dog in the dog's own language of eye contact, body language, body positioning, vocal tone, touch, and attitude. He also puts the needs of the dog first, in order for them to become stable and secure, or "balanced" as he puts it.

Way to go, Cesar!

I enjoyed meeting you at the seminar in Paso Robles last April, and can't wait for season 2 to begin. It's a real treat to watch you work!

Thank You

My family absolutely loves the show! We are currently between dogs but plan on getting another pet soon. We would love information that help us establish the proper pack leader mentality from the beginning with a new puppy. I will purchase your video in hopes of finding all kinds of useful information. Cesar, you are truly a miracle worker. Keep up the great work on behalf of all dogs!

Cesar - you just rock! Love the shows! Keep them coming! :-D

I love your show, and I have this secret dream to be your apprentice. Both my husband (me a bit more, I'd say, since I actually had a dog that obeyed me as the Alpha as a kid) and I are very intuitive with animals, and there's such a great need for your type of services everywhere!
(I'm South American too, as a bonus...Brazilian, to be more precise)

I feel sorry for animals that speak so clearly but can't be understood by us humans. They are such smart critters!

Thanks, looking forward to the new season! I'll have popcorn :)

I need help with my Shih Tuz. I can't break her of doing her business in the house. We went to potty class but nothing works. She peas on people when they pick her up. She will stretch at the door like crazy to come but won't when I open the door. I hate to get rid of her but I may have to if I can't find a solution. Cesar do you travel outside of California? And how much do you charge?

So nice to see a dog trainer working on the owners! I worked with horses for a few years and often the behavioral problems the owners wanted me to resolve were just reasonable responses by the horse to medical issues or to the owners' well-intentioned mishandling. Of course a trainer can usually get the animal to behave, what's better is when the trainer can then get the owner to get the same result. Owner education makes for lasting results and better long term treatment of the animal involved. How refreshing to see this on TV!

I've been around dogs all my life (my parents are breeders). After watching and hearing my parents coach potential dog owners on how to handle dogs someone else is out there spreading the word! It's refreshing to see and hear common sense and basic dog psychology in a format where people see the immediate results. Dogs are not people, but they are excellent people companions. Last season I taped the show for my folks and they got hooked as well. Even with 30plus years of experience they find watching Cesar's techniques useful. They've even referred potential dog owners to the show, especially when someone balks at the idea of using a correctional collar, establishing the "alpha" role, etc... When you are working with large, powerful dogs it is especially important that they (the dog) see you in this role.

In any case, thank you Cesar for all that you do and I'm looking forward to tonights premiere!

I began watching the Dog Whisperer when I started my search for a rescue dog. I recorded every episode, and frequently go back and watch. I am just amazed with Caesar and feel extremely fortunate that his knowledge is available to me, I consider it an invaluable resource.
Evertyhting he says and does just rings with such an air of commmon sense, it is truly refreshing.
I adopted the absolut love of my life in April of last year, his name is Beau and he is a 1 1/2 year old Basset Hound. He was very sick and underweight when I got him, I became overwhelmed emotionally during his recovery efforts, but I made it through and so did he, and he is now 100% healthy. I suspect abuse in Beau's past, he used to submissively pee/cower around men, especially tall men, it heartbreaking to watch. This behavior has all but disappeared in short order, thank heavens. He is a very confident, outgoing boy. He does has aggression/fear issues with (2) people in my life however, my brother and a co-worker(Beau comes to work with me everyday). It is very frustrating and I try to employ Caesar's methods but seem to be failing, my trainer suggested a water bottle/spray in the face, it was hard to do this , I only sprayed him once in the face, and now he does not "go after" these (2) people but he still follows them around/is agitated/tail between legs etc. and then will hide under my desk and growl. Anyone else take their dogs to work/have similar problems?
Sorry to go on for so long, not sure how a "blog" works but thought I would share.
I live in MA, any plans for Caesar having a seminar in my area?

Cesar, I was wondering if you can give us some advice. I live with my sister and her husband. They have a golden retriever. For some reason, he stopped listening to us when ver we have food -- he is all over our food ,even though he has food in his tray. If we are sitting on the couch watching tv, he starts jumping on the couch and if we don't play with him he starts to bite us. For some reason he always tries to attack my sister. Also, he's started to hump people's legs whether we are standing or playing cards on the ground and we didn't know if we should get him a girl dog as a companion. Please help, we don't know what else to do with him.

Thank you Cesar for stating "There is no such thing as a “vicious” dog breed"
Once everyone realizes that and takes the steps to correct what causes them to become aggresive in the first place BOREDOM AND BEING UNSATISFIED then we won't be fighting BSL "Breed Specific Legislation"

I just wanted to say how much I love the show. As a dog trainer myself, as well as a devoted pit bull owner, I really appreciate the work you have done with all your rehab dogs and the message you portray about this most miswnderstood of breeds. Cesar, you are a great ambassador for dogs of all breeds. Keep up the great work.

Ceaser,
Your show is very inspiring! I have always wanted to become a dog trainer, and have tried hard to with my own animals to be a great pack leader. I only have one problem with my dog that I can not seem to figure out. Dora (my pitbull terrier)is very loving, very good with my three children, calm, and well behavied. I trust her 100%. Most people that are afraid of pitbulls change there minds about them after they meet her. But she sometimes becomes very afraid over silly thing's. Like I'll give her a treat and she takes it just fine but five minuits later I can do the very same thing, go to give her a treat and she will cower and hide behind the couch. This is only one example. And she doesn't do it all the time. It's very strange! We have never hit her and have had her sence she was a puppy. She is almost three years old now. I'm wondering if dogs can have split personalitys?? I know this sounds funny but it doesn't make sence to me how she can be fine with something one day and be afraid of the same thing the next? Thanks so much... Gina

This message is in response to Ramona. I would encourage you and your family to read up on the history of the American Pit Bull Terrier, read everything you can. These dogs present unique challenges, especially when paired together. A great book on the breed is The Working Pit Bull, by Diane Jessup. Your dogs are around the same age and are both female, so naturally they are in a competitive situation. Also, they are umfamiliar with each other, so they are constantly trying to assert themselves over the other. My best advice to you would be to educate yourselves about the breed, make sure everyone is one the same page, and seek professional help from a trainer that is experienced with the breed. Most important to remember, and maybe you are aware of this from watching Cesars' show, is that the dogs will never behave around each other if you aren't in control of their bahavior. I personally own two male(neutered) pit bulls, and they are best of friends. But they are never left alone together, and I keep a watchful eye on them whenever they interact. They have never gotten into a fight with each other, because they know that fighting is forbidden and any aggressive behavior will not be tolerated. I hope you get to read this. Just remember, it can be done, you just have to work for it. Get educated about your dogs, and seek out a professional trainer. Good luck!

Need Help ---

Is there any possibility or way I can write to Cesar about a severe problem?

Thanks you ---

Joy

Hey Gina, just wanted to share some thoughts about your pooch. Many dogs have irrational fears and may get spooked over things we can't understand. I have noticed this in all the dogs I have owned. The key is to remember not to enforce the unwanted bahavior by coddling or reassuring the dog while they are in an unstable state of mind, just like Cesar says all the time. Something is triggering your dogs fear, be patient and really observe what is going on. As always, I would really encourage you to read as much info on the breed of dog you own(if you haven't done so already). The Working Pitbull, by Diane Jessup is one of my favorite books on the breed. Also, if you want to become a professional dog trainer, I say go for it! Good luck!

Hello Cesar!

Just an additional comment I'd like to add...

Looks like you're going to need to get an institute up and running for the next generation of dog rehabilitators and people trainers!

There currently are very few "professionals" for people to "consult", (after watching your show), which use these methods. Yes, I'm pestering you a bit...again!

There are also a few of us out here already using similar methods to yours, with no place yet to meet up and have discussions on our methods and additional information we would like to share with each other.

Looking forward to tonight's show!

The show and Cesar should be considered a public service. I don't have a dog but cats and am surprised that some of Cesar's techniques work with cats.
Having the "Dog Whisperer" on DVD is an idea I hope you really consider. I know at least half a dozen people I would buy them for. I truly love dogs and will one day have one (or two) when my last cat passes away. It really hurts me to see an aggressive, frighten or out of control dog. Both the dog and the owner are suffering and this could be relieved with Cesar's lessons.
I love your show and will be looking forward to the new season. Thank you

Have german shepherd who at 4 mo of age lost his eye due to unknown cause at boarding place. Since has exhibited aggresive behavior at other dogs and very guarded on meeting eople. Very affectionate at home.Destructive chewwing when not home. Crate house trained but does not favor crate, nor do we. Want watch dog Working with him but he is quite dominant Now 6 months old and 55 lbs. Any ideas if possible would be appreciated

Watching T.V. late one night and found Cesar. What a delight! Have many family members watching for Cesar now and we are all so glad he has a new season coming up.
Cesar deserves his popularity and all the praises I have read in his blog. I tried his techniques on our "weiner" dog and to my amazement they worked! He pulled the leash during the entire walk. No more! Thanks Cesar!

I love the show since I started watching it. I really think you have the gift for understanding our best friends. I have a male maltese and my daughter has 2 smaller ones. Mine and one of hers pee inside the house but we never catch them in the act so it seems difficult for us to correct this behavior. I was wondering what kind of technique can be used. Have you corrected this behavior in the show? I would like to know if there's a technique in the book or how can I get information about it. Thank you so much. I wish you the best with this new season.

In response to Meredith's question, I regularly bring my dogs (Jack Russell Terriers) to work with me, as I work 24-hour shifts. After our pair had a litter, I had to repossess one of the pups at five months of age because he was being neglected, and I suspect, abused. He was underweight with little muscle mass, was afraid of his own shadow, and VERY fearful of all humans EXCEPT children. The children were the only source of happy attention for him.

Just like with my dog Mojo, I started taking him (Junior)to work with me as soon as possible to get him desensitized to being around a host of different types of people, dogs, and noises. I took him several times during the day to each of the administrative offices in our station to expose him to a variety of people, and a few dogs too. One key difference: instead of punishing him when he acted fearful, I rewarded him when he began to relax and act more appropriately. The more he was rewarded for good behavior, the better Junior behaved.

Junior also was not crate-trained, and the early stages were very, umm, shrill and loud. When I would leave on a call, I would put him in his crate. My coworkers would then walk by and give him attention or a small treat whenever he was quiet and calm. Now his crate is is haven and he knows it is ALWAYS his safe place.

Since he was sadly underfed, he was very food aggressive toward my dogs and attacked Mojo and Dolly two or three times when he first came back to our house. After Junior learned where he was in the social hierarchy (certainly not in charge), we were able to get rid of his food aggression in about a week. While Junior remains food driven, I was able to feed all the dogs together and Mojo, Dolly, and Junior even play and nap together.

Junior still comes to my house sometimes on weekends to visit while his new family goes out of town, but he is a very well-behaved happy guy with three little girls who love him dearly. He is a new dog!

Congratulations on the success of your series. Your knowledge, insight, and techniques are fascinating. The Dog
Whisperer is my favorite series on television hands down. Wish it were televised even more often. Best wishes for continued success.

Cesar, Love the shows! Keep them comming!

I have watched your show a couple times. I have a dog named Hank that is mostly lab w/ some pitbull. he bites and hunts . I NEED YOUR HELP!!!!!! If I dont get it we have to get rid of him and me and my brother love him and can't let go!!! so please e-mail me. Im begging!!!!

I too would like to purchase the first season of shows on a DVD. We are unable to get the station with our current provider (unless we want to spend a rediculous amount of money each month.) I would really like to watch all of the first season shows. Will there be a DVD released and if so when?

Thanks!!

Thanks to Cesar and his show I corrected my spoiled rotten rott and adopted her mistreated brother when she was 18 months. Now the three of us watch every chance we get (I also wish it were on more often). We have occasional spats but I am alpha bitch in the family now!! God bless and keep it up.

Hi Cesar,

My son and I watch your show regularly. You have helped us solve aggression issues with our dogs. Thank you so much. One trainer we consulted from our local rescue club recommended euthanasia for one of our pets because he said he could not likely be rehabilitated. He is still with us and doing well. What I would like to see you address in one of your upcoming episodes is what it entails being a "Pack Leader". My son feels that is OK to hit, kick, or use a stick on my dogs to gain Pack Leader authority over them. While I realize you have never used this kind of force, he doesn't seem to get it. He listens to everything you say and I know it would help if you would point out in one of your shows that it is WRONG to use this type of treatment toward any animal. Thanks.

I enjoyed the first episode a great deal. I find that the techniques and ideas you express on that show may also apply to my children. After all, they too live mostly in the present.

I used to work for a local animal shelter and saw every kind of dog you could imagine. We got every animal that Animal Control picked up. We saw loads and loads of human-aggressive dogs every day. Many people would not go near the "vicious" dogs once they were caged, even the technicians. Animals can sense your emotions, and they feed off of that. I guess I've never been afraid of any animal, and that is the number one reason why I've gotten through to so many of them and have never had my skin broken by a dog (I've been nipped, but not punctured). A number of them came in growling and snarling their lips, but I never backed down and within minutes, many of them were eating out of my hand or outside walking with me. People have to understand that no dog is born vicious and most behaviors are reversible with time and patience! I wish there was a Cesar at every animal shelter in this country! And if I lived in CA, I would love to visit his Center - I am in love with his honey brown and white pitbull!!

Does anyone have any suggestions that might help my AKC German Shepherd? I purchased Greta about 1 1/2 years ago to help him with his depression (a dog is a boys best friend) and she has helped him out BIG TIME. She's having one "weird" problem that multiple vets can't even figure out... She's constantly itching/scratching. I changed her food when she was about a year and that's when things started getting bad - her saddle turned grey (she lost all of her black) - so I put her on lamb & rice and it has calmed down a tiny bit. I've taken her to 3 different vets and none of them have a clue what's going on. She doesn't have fleas or mites or any other bug like critter, she doesn't get human food, she has plenty of water... I just feel bad for her because she's always itching/scratching. I'm wondering if this is out of boredom or nervousness? (We bought her when she was 8 weeks old). Also, my boyfriend has stated that "she doesn't know how to be a dog" because she'll hop in bed with me, lay on her back, and usually sometime in the night she sneaks in a kiss (she's very affectionate) or she follows her owners around without being on a leash. She hasn't been around many dogs but when she is around them she wants to play so I don't see anything really wrong with her actions - she's still socialable.

This is to joy write this in your search bar cesar millan dog psychology center then click on contact you will see his postal address & email address hope that helps Danessa

I would like to see Cesar help out like the animal precinct show & the other animal cops shows. On animal precinct shows I saw about 10 dogs put down because of there food aggresstion, now if Cesar was there he would of had the problems fixed in no time. Now I dont know if the animal precinct where they are taped from if they have there own dog whisper in there town? I'm wondering if Cesar can help out the people in animal precinct & animal cops shows. Bye for now Danessa Keep up the good work Cesar I wish you would like come to northern,ca. too. :)

Finally someone who is teaching people about dogs and dog behavior! Everyone should be required to watch the Dog Whisperer - both dog owners and non dog owners.

Teaching people all of things that you are, you are making the USA a safer place for people to live with dogs. I can't say enough good things about Cesar and the show and I never miss an episode!

Thank you for what you do! And my big, loveable rottweiler says thank you for teaching people he's not a big scarry monster that should be feared.

A question I'd love to see get answered in on of Cesar's blogs.....Has there ever been a circumstance where you have come across a dog that was beyond rehabilition? I have heard comments that there is, on rare occassions, dogs that are just "wired" wrong (as in mentally unstable) and should be put down. Have you found this to be true in any cases you've encountered?

Ah yes, the "lapdog kill-zone"! No, it's not meant to be a funny comment, just a phrase I personally use.

It's amazing what people will tolerate or even encourage in small dogs, as almost "cute", while this behavior would never be considered cute in a large dog.

I don't think dogs are even aware of how big or small they are, but definately know when they are placed in a powerful position by the reactions of the humans around them.

Cesar, I think your comments about Bandit's "claiming" of the lady of the house as "his" female, are right on.

we just got a pound dog,part hound &part dalmation.He's 1yr
old. He's big. He nipps at us and friends and takes the pillows outside. He does not listen and I don't enjoy
smacking him with the newspaper, but we have to
PLEASE canyou HELP ME make him a good companion?
He hip butts our older dog to where she can hardly
walk without crying.PLEASE you gotto HELP.

Try following Cesar's remedy of keeping a training collar or chain on the dog at all times when they are in your home and off leash. (choke chains work best to "snap" the dog out of their behavior) Every time the dog does a bad behavior, you need to correct it right away. With the nipping, try the "bite" effect with your hand on the side of the neck just like a mother would do to her young pups. I rescued a dal from a shelter a few years ago, and some of her bad behaviors have started to go away the more she has learned to trust me. Dalmations seem to be very stubborn and smart, so it's just a matter of out smarting them and trying to think like they do before they turn bad! What do you do when he has a pillow in in his mouth? as cesar says. "ADDRESS" meaning address the bad behaviors and give consequences IMMEDIATELY. otherwise the dog forgets and doesnt realise they have done anything wrong!

I KNOW CESAR CAN'T ANSWER MY QUESTION, BUT IF ANY OF YOU READING THIS CAN, I'D GREATLY APPRECIATE IT. I HAVE A 7 MONTH OLD AKITA THAT LIKE'S EVERYTHING DONE HIS WAY OR NO WAY, I'M HAVING A PROBLEM GETTING HIM TO STOP PULLING ME ON WALK'S, ANY SUGGESTION'S ON THE TYPE OF COLLAR AND LEAD I SHOULD BE USING???? I'VE TRIED, A CHOKE CHAIN COLLAR, HARNESS, THERE HAS TO BE SOME TYPE THAT WILL STOP HIM IN HIS TRACK'S, PLEASE DO LET ME KNOW, I LOOK FORWARD TO ANY ADVICE.
THANK YOU, DENISE

Denise if you ever recorded his tv shows at all go back and rewatch them or go to his website and watch his shows from last seasons and watch the video clips or go to cesar millan dog psychology center then click on contact email him there. bye for now Danessa

FOR JODI - I work at a vet hospital and we see itchy dogs every single day. We just saw a chronically itchy dog the other day and it ended up having mange - you might want to have your vet do a skin scrape just to check. We also use many different types of medications - sometimes we'll give Medrol, Hydroxyzine, or Dexamethasone. They all work in different ways for different dogs. When we give the Medrol, it always seems to help. Also, try giving your dog frequent baths in something like Universal Medicated Shampoo or Benzoyl Plus. (Sorry to have to post this on the blog, but I have no other way of sending a reply)

Hi....I have a Shepard mix. She is 3 years old. I have to fight with her every time I clip her nails or try to give her a bath. When I first got her she was 6 weeks old. I could put her in the kitchen sink and give her a bath. She is about 90 pounds now and I don't think that will work. Does anyone have any suggestions??

Sandy you should give your dog a bath out side with a hose. Thats what I do with my dog lol. Turn the water on low make dog all wet then put shampoo on dog put down the hose wash dog real quickly pick up the hose up & rinse dog off. When you wash your dog wash with baby shampoo so it wont dry out the skin. Do you have someone to help you hold down your dog while you are cliping the dog nails? I'm luck with my dog she just lays down for me to clip her nails lol. Some times I even paint my dog nails to hehehe :) bye for now Danessa

Hi everyone! I wrote on the Blog on the 'Soggy Doggy' a week or two ago about my Choc. Lab/Australian Shep. mix puppy. He's now almost ten weeks old, being very good. Sits, shakes, and comes on command. He also rings the jingle bells on the front door to go outside, even when I'm out of the room, and waits at the door for me to take him out! I'm impressed with him. The problem I'm still having, is that he will NOT walk outside of the yard! I walk him in the yard on his leash, and he's fine, but to get him out of the yard boundaries is not working. I drive a semi-truck all day long, and he rides with me every day. When I take him outside then, he will walk and run with me, just not out of our yard! I want to walk! He also needs to walk after being in the truck all day. Any ideas would hopefully be helpful! The show has become my favorite!

Please help me!!!!! I have a 2 yr old mini schnauzer and a medium size (about 60 pds) mix breed. The mix breed(Baby) showed up in my yard about 3 months ago. It just so happens that she was pregnant. to make a long story short, she had 7 pupps 2 died @ birth 2 died when we brought her home. Now we have 3 beautiful puppys that everyone I know wants. Well, my schnauzer(Cricket) tries to jump on Baby every time I try to let her in the house. What can I do. We have acouple of neibors that have a very large dog. She tries to jump on him. It scares me so bad because I am afraid that these large dogs are going to kill her. What am I supposed to do about Cricket. Cricket weighs about 14 pds.! These dogs are atleast 3 times her size. PLEASE HELP ME SOMEONE!!! Your show is out of this world. I love to watch you work with all of those animals and people.

Vicki,
What does your dog do when he "won't walk out of the yard?" Does she resist or put up a fight? Won't budge?
Did you see the episode of Cesar working with the great dane that was afraid of shiny floors? Have you tried a "running start" with the dog from the backyard out your gate to the neighborhood? Maybe there is something your dog is fearful of in your neighborhood from an earlier experience.. but if you show any fear when you head for the front door, and on the walk, the dog will sense it. Keep your head high, be patient, and calmly walk the dog.. sooner or later she should realize what you intend for her and will probably love the walk.. that is great that you want to walk her!

Sunny, Thanks for asking. His name is Zippo. Today I walked all around the yard with him on the leash and then walked to the side of the yard where he does his business. He was having a great time. There were two people walking two Black Labs across the street. Zippo was so excited, so I encouraged him to follow on our side of the street. We started out just fine for about 20 feet, and then he realized that he was out of our yard, and stopped dead in his tracks. He will not budge without me dragging him kicking and whining! I'm wondering if he's too young, but I don't think so. He's really smart, and has picked up other commands very well, so this is getting frustrating to say the least!Treats don't work either. He's figured out that he only has to come to me to get the treat, and then he won't budge again until I offer another one, but I don't want to feed him all those treats! I've carried him to the long corner of our block, and he will lunge and run back to our house! Maybe he feels that is in his control. I don't want to hurt him by dragging him. I use the slip collar when I try this. I'm not going to give up!! He sometimes is frightened by cars, but he's around noisy semi-trucks all day!

We have a female Rot that is three years old. She has always been aggressive and has only seemed to have bonded with my husband. I have had her one week at puppy obedience classes and again when she was about six months old for one week. The trainer advised that she feels that the dog feels she is the alpha dog. She can be very affectionate and then turn within a blink of an eye. She listens to me although when she is obeying me, the hair on her back will often standup, she will snarl at me, or growl. The vet has refused to bathe her any more and she is also very aggressive towards people that come to the house. Our vet has advised us he belives we should put her down as he believes she could be a very dangerous animal. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello Cesar!
I love your show! As I am sure you often get requests for help, I am sorry, but I am desperate and will also add to the request for help. I guess the initial question should be do you ever work in other states for example Charlotte, NC? I currently have a female pitbull that loves people, but she embarrasses me everytime are in public and other dogs are around. I live in a community full of dogs, and I am sad to say she is known throughout the neighborhood because of her aggressive behavior to the other dogs. She growls, barks, and runs all around the apartment anytime she hears my neighbors moving around, because she thinks they are going to take their dogs for a walk and she tries to break through my windows and doors to get outside to them. I believe my neighbors hates me because of all the noise she makes. Please Cesar, I could really use some help. I have tried stern NO's, physical discipline, caging her, positive reinforcement and nothing seems to work. If there is a chance that would do a show in another state please let Charlotte, NC be your first stop, as I am afraid she is going to get into a fight with the wrong dog and get hurt.

Hi Cesar

I wonder if you could help an otherwise sound dog with fear aggression?

He's a 2-year-old Border Collie and is a real cheeky fella. All was fine and he was utterly fearles until he was attacked and almost killed by a dog that just seemed to pinpoint him out. He was 1 at the time and just about to pick up the ball i had thrown. The attacking dog came from behind and to the side and latched itself onto Vinnie's neck. The scream he gave out was one of utter fear and pain. It was horrible.

Anyway, I have done quite a lot of work with him trying to re-socialise and introduce him to 'friendly' dogs. Sometimes, he's OK, but other times, he gives a very mean-sounding warning sound. One puppy who got too close to him got the snappy end of Vinnie's snout. It wasn't nice to watch.

Is there anything I could try to help the situation with this otherwise wonderful dog?

Any and all comments greatly appreciated.

For DENISE re pulling on walks.

I tried many collars for my overly hyper boxer before I found one that would work. The one I found is called a gentle leader. You can see info on it here: http://www.premier.com/pages.cfm?ID=29

You can find them at any major pet store.

Oh my goodness, I really need help for my 3 yo chihuahua. He bites, non stop barking at everything and everyone, he goes to the bathroom inside of the house even when he just came in from outside and he doesn't listens. He won't walk on a leash and I've tried every leash that is out on market. If we let him outside he runs up and down the street and won't stop when called. When we go to the vet they always frown because he has bitten the doctor before and they have to muzzle him in order to treat him. He won't let us or the vet cut his nails or brush his hair (he had long hair). Someone told me to get him neutred and that should help. Well it didn't and now he's fat and mean. He won't stop jumping on the furniture. I've read book after book and tried everything and he's still a nasty dog. He will do good for two days then pee and ect for two weeks. I don't know what else to do. Some say that I've spolied him and that's why he's hard headed! I don't know what to do. I will do anything if it will help him because I'm at the end of my rope and have been for some time. I'm trying to patient with him and I praises him when he does right but it seems like that's not enough. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE help me. His name is Sincere but I think we should name him NuNu III, Nika

I have a 2yr old male Sharpei who has to be the sweetest Sharpei I have ever met. He lost his eye when he was 14 weeks old due to the breeder's vet puncturing it when he tacked it up - so he's had a traumatic life. My problem is when I walk him on a leash the moment he sees other dogs he goes ballistic. He was never like this when he was in his puppyhood, and socialized with other dogs. However I noticed when he was little he was scared of the bigger dogs possibly because he couldn't see them due to his eye. One day he woke up and started being mean to other dogs except our other dog and the neighbors. It's ashame because I feel like I can't take him anywhere in fear that he'll see another dog and start barking and going crazy. The weird thing is he's actually not an aggressive dog he loves people and two chosen dogs. He is neutered - actually he got neutered when he got his eye removed. I just don't know if he's scared of other dogs, trying to protect me, or I don't know. I'll do anything for him. If anyone can help or have ideas I could use it!! If anyone is a Sharpei owner and has a similar problem let me know if you have any ideas!

Vicki, take a step back and look at your own body language when the dog starts to resist. Do you comfort him? Sounds like you might, especially if you are carrying him to the street. Stay calm, do not talk to the dog, and try saying a simple "Come". You might have to take it step by step. Giving the dog treats to get it to move is probably just allowing the dog to further manipulate you. Psyche yourself out that it will happen, relax your body posture, and stay calm. If Zippo realizes that you won't back down, I bet you will be walking with her/him in no time. Sometimes the whining and resisting is just a temper tantrum, and unless you really think you are causing harm to the dog, you probably aren't hurting her a bit. Sounds like she has learned to control you to do what SHE wants. Try not to talk or coax the dog so much out into the neighborhood, just do the action and I bet the dog will follow. It takes practice, but keep watching how cesar does it, as there are sure to be some scared and fearful dogs this season!

My dog Titus is a maltese and boy is he a problem. We got his 2 years ago and eveything was fine. But now he won't stop biting people. First he was just barking and they were friendly bites like the type when he is playing. But now if you touch him, he will attack!! If you try to open the front door for company and you try to pick him up, he'll go crazy and i don't know what to do!Now my mom wants to send him away!!If there is anyone who can help me, please write.

i don't have cable, but my friend recoreded it for me. i have a 16 yo golden, and a new 9 mo labradoodle pup. the golden is just the sweetest well mannered dog ever. i adopted him that way! the labradoodle, more like crazidoodle, is joy... when not destroying things! he likes to get into napkins, socks, and anything else he can shred. he's pretty good with the no command and the basics... sit, come, down. he's also a jumper when new people come in. oh well... season 2... I CANT WAIT!!! RAISE THE WOOF!!!

I have 3 dogs at home, 2 big, one small, all I've been told to be disastrous canines (white lab/shepard, siberian husky, and terrier/pitbull). Thanks to you, good long walks in the morning and more of course, and I can leave them at home, have them around visitors, inside my house. My dogs are a total joy, thanks again Mr. Millan.

I have a long haired Chihuahua, Mr. B (1 1/2 years old)from his introduction into our home.... he displays aggressive behaviour. This behaviour is displayed when he is partially asleep, such as if in your lap or his bed and you attempt to either get up or get him up...it appears his mind is not engaged thus his aggression is amplified.

He now is becoming aggressive if you hand him a treat....

He has bitten me clear down to the bone on my hand...I scolded him saying....no ..do not hurt .....
He turned on me ....attempting to bite me again.....

I informed him he was a bad dog, and walked away...making him come to me...which I ignored him for a few hours.

I am not giving him up or anything else, as I am determined to have him respect me and not become his dinner.....just some levity here. Seriously though I have attempted to employ Mr. Milan's methods...yet I feel my dog might be mentally challenged......just guessing here....as not all his adult teeth are in and his had bad knees. Also at times he gets a dazed look in his eyes when his aggression is displayed. (Most of the time)

Understand when he is near sleep or waking up or you hand him food........or when someone comes to the door or the UPS truck passes..........jeese so many things set him off........I do employ the leash method when someone comes to the door or when we walk him...yet his attitude towards me is ..."ya right lady"......I am learning not to treat him as I have all my other dogs in the past......he is the first dog I have ever had that displays aggression......

I am still working on being pack leader...........not relenting.......yet somewhat discouraged.....yet determined to have him become less aggressive.......and no I dare not allow him near people.......but for my room mate......

Just expressing thanks for your teachings and hopefully Mr. B will too.

Thank you for your program as we really do need it...

Sunny, I got Zippo to walk last night and tonight. Both times right after we got home from work. Last night I did just ignore his whining and fighting, and just kept walking. Two houses away, he finally understood that I was NOT going to turn around and pay attention to him. He ended up walking great. We walked for 1/2 hour both nights now, and it seems to be ok!! Now to tackle the problem of him attacking my two cats! Thanks for the advice!!

I have 2 female Silky Terriers who aren't house broken. I look back and see that I have unwittingly done every thing wrong. Including getting upset with them when I was taking them with me to work and they wanted to go. Also they were fence climbers so I paper trained them.

I know that it will take effort to try and reverse my mistakes. I feel that I am going to have to crate them and/or keep them on a leash when they are inside. And no more sleeping on the bed.

Wish me luck that I can relaxed dominant and keep at it. They are older dogs 11 and 9 and I have had them from birth.

Please help us! We are going crazy. We have tried everything we know to do. Things like professional training and the vet., we tried crating training, everything. We love our dogs and do not wish to keep them outside. But the urinating is really getting to be a problem.
We have 2 dogs Bo and Cooper. Cooper is 3 years old and I resoude him from the animal shelter, it was his last day there before they killed him. He is a great dog. Wonderful with the grandchildren, my grandchildren ages are 6,5,and a set of twins age 4. Never has he growled or even nip at them. He backs away from the feeding dish to let Bo or our 3 cats eat first, and he eats whatever is left. His problem is: once he escapes from the house he doesn't come when called and he chases anything that moves regardless, it can be a child on a bike or run a squirrel across the street. When we take him out he is on a leash, only when he breaks free he acts like this.
Bo on the other hand, he is fantastic when Cooper is not outside with him. Our problem with Bo is he can go potty outside and come right back in and do the same in the house.Bo is 5 months old and he is a pitbull. When he starts urinating he's walking the whole time, so its not just one puddle, its a long line of urine. We have had his kidneys and bladder checked and found no problems. We know he can hold his urine because he sleeps all night not wanting to up. Please Please help us.... We are desperate..

If it came down to watching only one program it would be the Dog Whisperer.

Would like to buy first season on DVD. Ditto for second and future seasons.

Jose

I have heard so much about your show from friends and co-workers but never really watched it because, being honest, I have never believed in Dog Training due to the fact "how would each dog trainer know how to train my dog when they all have different personalities." I did watch a marathon recently and WOW am I a new believer! My method of raising dogs is different from most, the first year of life I give them lots of freedom to explore, while I do train and teach manners, I am not big on discipline. My dogs walk twice a day everyday so they get plenty of excercise. I have a 12 year old Rott that is absolutely perfect, but now we have a 14 month (neutered) Pure Pit that is a little more difficult! I followed Ceasars instructions on the pulling and now my 80lb guy doesn't pull when walking, but he is a nipper and jumper! Again I am not to strict and I do spoil him, but he knows to mind me when I am serious in my tone an even though my husband is more strict with our dogs, they both are total momma's boys. I am the one who walks, feeds, plays, and basically does all their care so I need to know what would be good advice to stop him from tring to bite strangers, which he mainly tries on when we are alone, so is it protection or a different problem? Either way I need to stop this behavior before he actally does get ahold of someone. Again, yes I am not that forceful, but he does know when I correct him, and I would never hit any animal, I just do the eye level, face hold contact until I have his attention and then use a stern tone.
Please help me!
Leslie

Vicki! Yahoo@ congrats, glad it worked.. its all about your state of mind huh? Once the dog realizes you are the one in control, they will follow! I have a dog and a cat too, I wish there was a cat whisperer. the dog could care less about the cat until the cat runs, then the chase is on! I would love to see the two of them snuggling together.. dare to dream!

Hi my name is Ann and I have the most wonderful french bulldog. However, I feel I have spoiled him to much and he is very sensitive and jelious. when I am petting another dog or if anyone is and he is around he has to push his way in or he barks or be mean to the other dog. he is also really bad on a leash he pulls a whole lot. I have been trying to be more stren with him but it isn't working. I really hope it is not to late to train him. Please if you will give me advise as to what to do.
Thanks alot

Ann

I began watching Dog Whisperer faithfully after I noticed that my dog would turn her head and look at the television whenever Cesar made his "Ssshhtt" noise. The problem I have with my dog is that she sometimes mounts other dogs. Their size is not a factor; they may be bigger or smaller than her. I can haul her off, but likely as not the other dog will then turn and threaten/warn her. She does not mount this to all dogs; most she is fine with, and plays with. I don't like the way she sometimes takes things into her own hands, though. Almost every dog in my neighborhood walks ahead of its owner (and some are not leashed, in spite of leash law). Not sure what she picks up as they approach, but it can be hard to handle, and I'd like to get it under control.

HAIL CAESAR!!!
Love the show, can't wait for the new season. Any tips for a serious chicken killer?

HI,
My husband and I a great cocker-poo but he begins barking and running in circles and shakes his toys really hard and growls whenever anyone hugs and kisses goodbye.

Its so annoying because when people are leaving as soon as he knows he makes it impossible to say our goodbyes in peace! He but not when both of us are leaving at the same time. We've tried correcting him by making him sit and staring at him and saying no. nothing is working.

This behavior is engrained for 10 years now, so I'm not sure how to break it.

I wish I would have known you'd be in Manhattan just a few hours earlier!!

Aww well. I'll keep trying.

Hi Caesar, We adopted an 8 week old German Shepard mix (mix unknown) from a pound. He is now 16 weeks old & he bites everyone (we have 4 children) ages 14 to 10 all the time. When I tell him no, he bites harder & takes it as a challenge. He will bite on my legs so I can't even walk. Is this normal puppy behavior? The only time he is not biting is when he is sleeping. At first I screamed & shouted at him No bite but then, my sister told me about your show & I have been taping them all in hopes of a solution so, I told everyone they cannot yell at him. I tried putting him on the leash and pulling him away but, he comes at me more and barks at me. Also, laying him down in submissive mode but he bites my hands and curls up. He has even bit the kids nose when they go to pet him .His gets wild, even his eyes get a glazed look. 2nd, he recently began to throw up when going in the car even a quick ride. I hope you can help. Any help would be appreciated so very much.

Hi Sunny, Yes it is the state of mind! Zippo really chases my female cat because she is the more passive one. My male cat won't put up with it, and shows Zippo who's boss! When I catch Zippo with that look in his eyes, like he's going to go after her, I make him sit, and I just keep saying 'no' to him. He usually calms down within a couple of minutes, lies down, and forgets about her! Both cats are front declawed, so they do the best they can with the hissing and growling! Consistancy can be very tiring on us humans! Bye for now!

I am an Animal Control Officer and I face a multitude of aggressive dogs of all shapes and sizes on a daily basis. I have to thank Cesar for his show, I have learned so much just watching it. I have been in this field for going on 9 yrs and it is a relief to be able to read a dogs body language. I am also the owner of 3 Cane Corso Mastiffs, 1 Pit Bull, and a Chihuahua and I have some of Cesar techniques on my own dogs and they have worked wonderfully. My Pit Bull and one of my Mastiffs have some aggressive tendencies but I am working thru them with the knowledge I learn on Cesar's show. Thank you again Cesar for the great work and the awsome show.

I never miss your show. I have an Austrlian Cattle dog. She has been trained and is very smart.Sits, down stays etc., However, she is very aggressive. At this time only allows 5 humans to approach her. I have tried everything I know and have followed your suggestions. Wish you would address the aggressive dog situration on your program. I am so afraid she will hurt someone. Keep gates locked at all times and under control when walking her. HELP!

my dog still pees on the floor! she's 5, and i dont want to give her up! my carpet stinks!!

I have two shitzu's one is really aggresive and will bite mostly boys and men. There used to be teenagers next door who teased him alot, now he bites. Help anyone I have had the dog warden out to my house 3 times and don't want to lose my dog. The other dog only barks alot when his brother is being aggressive. Please can someone help me to stop this behavior. Thanks

I love Cesar's show and have learned a lot from it. I have a 2 yr. old Collie mix that we adopted when he was 4 & 1/2 months old. I'd love to meet Cesar--is there any chance he'd come to the Atlanta area? Keep the shows coming!

Your show is wonderful. I volunteer at a shelter and come across so many dogs with behavioral problems. You have to be honest with people who are adopting and point out the key problems ahead of time so the animal does not get returned. We are a no-kill shelter and research a potential family's background so we can match the dog with the right home. So many people take it very personnally when they are denied a dog, but they need to realize that we are not in it to place a dog as fast as we can. We of course want a quick adoption, but only to the right people and of the right dog. It is very tramatizing to a dog to become part of a family, do something out of character and then be brought back to the shelter for behavior that most often times can be corrected with proper training for the owner as well as the dog. Thanks for the wonderful insights, compassion and consideration for the greatest friend a person could ask for, the unconditional love of a dog!!! Can we purchase the first seasons' episodes, please???? Trish

I live in New Jersey. I have three dogs, one half bull mastiff half boxer, and a pit bull, and a french bulldog. I'm 13 and i can't ever have my friends over because our oldest the bull mastiff half boxer who is about 3 I guess is aggresive towards people she doesnt know. When people pull up in the driceway she starts barking. Its only at home though so I think she is protective of the house. It doesnt matter how old the person is. About two years ago my little sister had to go to the bathroom as my dad was dropping me off at my house. My dog then tried to attack her. I was so scared I picked my little sister up and eventuaaly my moms boyfriend who lives with us with his two kids came down and got my dog away but it was still scary. My other two dogs are fine with people they love them. If you were wondering how my moms boyfriend and kids could live in the house its because they were living with us when the was bought. I need some help so if you could give me some advice with how to deal with this I would be soooo greatfull. I dont know if I can deal with this anymore. I love your show and I hope you can give me some advice or mabye suggest someone or someplace that could help us. Thanx.

First of all, I just want to tell you your show is awesome! Second of all, my girlfriend got me a puppy for my birthday last year, then we rescued another dog soon after. The first dog is a boxer, beagle mix, the second is coonhound. Everything was great for awhile, they played and had a good ol' time. Then one day they got into a fight, tried to break them up and got a pretty good bite. I didn't think much about it until their second fight where alot of blood was drawn (not on me this time). The first dog we got (Morgan) was in heat, the second dog (Hannah) had been spayed. We have since gotten Morgan spayed. The night they got into a fight scared us to death. They have been seperated since then. My girlfriend thinks Morgan has pit in her and doesn't want Morgan around Hannah, even though Morgan was the one who was bleeding . This is splitting our house into. What can we do to get the dogs back together? Any help would be appreciated, even from other people who have had the same experience. We love our dogs and each other, but this is throwing a wrench into our once loving home. Thanks

I was recently given a Pomeranian from a woman who wasn't healthy enough to provide for it anymore. When I got him, he was underweight and matted, so I took him to the vet and did whatever it took to get him better. When I first got him home, I bathed him and he warmed up to me a bit, sitting in my lap and letting me bathe and rub him without any fuss. Now, he just sits in his crate and growls or tries to bite if anyone comes near. What should I do?

why does my toy poodle shred paper into ribbon no matter
where I put him he makes a mess. How do I stop my dog
from shredding paper?

DEAR CESAR MILLAN,I REALLY HELP I AM DISABLE HAD GOTTEN A GEREM POLICE PUP TO PROTECT,BUT HAVING PROBLEMS WITH HER SHE IS 7 MONTHS OLD NOW,TEARS UP PAPER EVERY WHERE,TEARS UP AND DESTROYS MY 2 POM'S BED,SHE WILL NOT COME BACK TO ME WHEN I LET HER OUTSIDE,SHE DOES NOT LISTEN TO COMMANDS,LIKE I SAID I AM DISABLE AND SHE COULD REALLY HURT ME IF SHE WANTED TO I NEED HELP AND YOU ARE THE ONLY MAN I HAVE EVER SEEN WITH KNOWLEDGE OF HOW TO TRAIN DOGS AND YOU SEEM TO BE THE BEST,IF ANYWAY POSSIBLE I NEED YOUR HELP.THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME CESAR,HOPE TO HEAR FROM YOU SOON,THAT IS MY PRAYER,THANK YOU,LINDA

Cesar,
First I want to say that I love your show, I have trained dogs for 12 years and you are absolutely amazing. I remember how it felt to really change someones life with their dog and that is what I am hoping you will do for me! I have never seen I dog that I could not house train ...until now! I am so heartbroken, I have three dogs, a 1 1/2 old boxer, a 1 1/2 old pit bull mix and a 9 year old chinese chrested. I got the pit from a shelter and then purchased my dream boxer from a breeder. He was gorgeous, the dog I always seen in books. I brought him home at 4 months of age and the dog is still not house broken. He will urinate in his cage on a regular basis and if he is out of the cage I have to constantly watch him because he will urinate in the house. My other dog, the pit bull, is starting to urinate in the house but not in his cage. I have had the boxer checked by a vet and no health problems could be found. I am afraid that it is all because of a behavorial problem that I am not familar with. I am totally in love with my dogs and can not imagine getting rid of any of them but I am at a loss and do not know what else to do. Can you please help me and pass along any advise.

hey there hows it going? i have a 7 mth old austrailian shephard. he is a very playfull and well behaved puppy when i'm around. my wife claims that as soon as i go to work he turns into this "devil dog". she says he takes stuff he knows he shouldnt and chews it up. when my wife goes to get the object from him, Brody gets real aggressive and sometimes nipps her hand. i have seen him do this a couple of times and it is pretty scary seeing as we have a 3 year old daughter and a 2 mth old son in the house and worry about their safty. any suggestioins on how to break him of this aggression? thank you very much and we love the show but are not a successful as u with our dog.

Bravo National Geographic and Caesar Milan - great show! If there is anyone out there who can help us with our problem we would be so appreciative. My son rescued a puppy he saw dumped at the end of our street one evening. He brought her to a veterinarian the very next morning to have her checked out. He was told that she was OK health wise, that she was probably not more than 8 wks old and that she a German Shepherd/Chow mix and going to be a good size dog. Our problems are 1. She's a puppy and a love, but she tries to bite and chew everything and everyone. We are afraid that if we can't break her of this habit now, as a puppy that she may be a danger to herself and others as she gets older and 2. She definately seems to assume the upper hand or dominant roll all the time - again with everyone and everything. If you're walking in the house or the yard, she constantly runs and tries to anticipate where you are going so that she can be in front. We don't know how to or how much discipline to give to a puppy. We watch your show religiously, but you are seldom dealing with puppies. "Pebbles" is now 13 weeks old and getting worse...please help! Thank you.

Donna, My puppy,'Zippo', is now 12 weeks old. He likes to nip yet, mostly at my hands. A friend had told me about four weeks ago to put my thumb under his tongue, and press down because they don't like that. It seems to work pretty well. When I do this, I also command 'no bite' If he persists, I put him down in the submissive 'lay down' position on the floor. I also make sure that he has a chew bone available at ALL times! Like a human toddler, I think puppies need variety, so I switch out his toys so he doesn't have all of them all of the time! As far as trying to be in front of you all of the time, you need to correct that right away when she does that. Try keeping her on the leash for awhile in the house, and correcting her with a tug on it when she tries to get in front of you. It worked for me like a charm! Zippo waits for me to go up or down the stairs, and even stays behind me when I just walk through a room. We no longer get tangled up with each other, since we both know where our places are! Good luck!

My friend has Ms and is in a wheel chair she has an 8 yr old Shitzu who pees all over the house. She has sent her to obedience school with no success. She cannot confine her as the dog becomes completely unglued when confined. Foaming at the mouth, increased heart rate, and heavy breathing her vet even thinks she might die if put in a crate. What can she do?

I have two pomerains and we have had one of them for 2 years and the other one for 1 year. the two year old (kylie) used to be so good she barly ever barked, like poms do. but when she had her puppy (coco)she became very protctive i guess and not really of her puppy but to "us" we have tryed everything we could think of. NOTHING WORKS. we cant get up off the couch with out our two dogs barking for at least 2 min!! we dont know what to do. they bark at EVERYTHING! and this just started about 1 year ago. we cant stand the barking! please help :)

oh yeah i forgot one thing you know our dogs (coco and kylie) well we cant get coco potty trained! i know everyones like its so easy to get a dog potty trained. well we let her out for about 5-10 min then right when she comes back in she goes potty inside! and when she scratches at the back door we always let her out ( just in case she needs to go) well 1/2 the time she gets out of the fence. and its just so complacated because its really (does she need to go or does she just want outside?) PLEASE HELP YOUR OR LAST OPTION!

Hello Cesar!

My husband and I have regained control of our household thanks to your techniques. My two Boston Terriers have come so far - walks are more pleasant and we know how to be consistent in response to their good and bad behavior.

I can't help but think your expertise could used to fight the breed specific legislation (BSL) that has been passsed in several US and Canada cities. Your simply stated truth (above):

" The truth is that ANY breed of dog, big or small, can develop aggression. Aggression is a symptom of an unsatisfied dog; a dog whose life is not being fulfilled. Some breeds, including “pit bulls,” Rottweilers, and German Shepherds, are more powerful than other breeds, so if they become aggressive, they can almost always do much more damage."

sums up the whole argument. The problem is, the cities voting for BSL don't believe it!

Coming from you and put in a formal statement to the next city considering a legal ban on pitbulls or Rottweilers might make the difference and spare countless dogs lives.

When legislation like that goes through, it is left to frontline staff people to identify breeds. So of course it does not end up just being the banned breeds that suffer.
All the similar breeds, such as American Staffordshire Terriers, American bulldogs and Boxers will be confused with the banned dogs and also be discriminated against and destroyed. Its a ridiculous school of thought. The problem is not the breeds, its the hideous group of people who like them and train them to fight.

With your expertise, credibility & popularity - you could make people understand that legislation should respond to Deeds - not Breeds!!

Thank you Cesar!

I think you are misleading a good deal of people who now will think their dogs can be *calmed* or changed for the better when nothing else has worked. I won't watch your program...

Laura is right. Your knowledge and credibility would be a great asset to help those of us fighting BSL, especially here in California where it is starting with supposedly innocent mandatory spay/neuter programs for only certain breeds. Famalies will be hit hard with insurance drops or rental evictions due to the breed of dog people own. They will have to choose between their homes and their pets. Our shelters will filled with surrendered good pets because of this and many will be put down as there will be no famalies able to take them in. These programs do nothing to fight illegal breeding and fighting dogs. It only hurts the good dogs and their owners. Cesar, your help is needed.

I have used some of your techniques on a rescued pitbull mix of ours and it has helped alot. However, I can't get to the point of exercise from walking as he is deathly afraid of being leashed and freaks out. I have never seen a dog act this way, the neighbors would think he is being beat if they didn't know any better. Coaxing, insisting, I have tried it all, nothing seems to work. He had a hard life starting out being dumped at 5 weeks old in a parking lot and left to die with a serious medical condition. Surgery at a young age and a long recoup time, he is now a loyal loving member of our family. But he suffers from fear aggression and until I know I can be in control of him 100% I am hesitant to have him meet new people. Once he has met you, he remembers you (good or bad). Currently only one person is on his bad list, the root of the aggression problem, my brother. We need help here with completeing Diesels rehabilitation. He is a big enough boy that carrying him into the vets office is not an option. He needs to learn to walk on a leash so we can continue working on his socialization skills.

I have a male doberman. Who is 7 years old.Every time I try to feed him he runs in the woods and starts to bark. I tried not giving his food to him, putting his leash on him, andmaking him sit before he eats. Noting will work. HELP!!!!!!!! You need to come to Oklahoma! PlEASE!!!!

Our 5 year old golden, Amber, is a thief. She will steal anything that is not tied down. Amber is one of 4 dogs (two other goldens & a chihuahua mix). Stealing food is a particularly troublesome problem. Cooking near Amber is a nightmare, and no food can be left unattended for even a few seconds. We have managed to get Amber to not eat her own dinner until we give her the "okay", but unattended food, shoes, etc. are are always up for grabs. No amount of discipline works since there is no way to follow her every move. Crating, correction collars and scat mats are only of limited use. Other than the stealing Amber is a gentle wonderful companion. HELP

i have the sweetest dog but he has some issues. dalmations tend to be a little ecentric.
we have a cat who never gets to go downstairs because we are afraid hte dog will kill it. any suggestions

please can you help me. I have a 10 month old yorkie named Paris. She is as loveable and sweet as can be with her family But when greated with strangers she turns into a demon. Her behavior is very aggresive. She has not bitten any one yet. I am trying every thing. The problem is there are not many people who come to visit. and Im not sure what type of training method to use.she is extreamly smart. Please i need help.

I think I have caused my two mini-dachshunds to be fear aggressive to other large dogs because I am always afraid they will be killed by a large dog after seeing my neighbors poodle killed by a german shepard. How can you safely let large dogs approach them? Iam am scared to death they are going to be attacked because they act ridiculous and try to bite the big dogs. HELP!

Please can you help me, I have inherited a nine year old black lab from a friend that has passed away. The dog is cool except for when it hears a small noise or someone enters threw the door it barks like crazy. We have a baby in the house, when ever the dog barks it wakes it up. I don’t know how to get the dog to stop barking. We do not want to have to put a bark collar on it. HELP!

Ok my problems that I have a 5 year old pitt bull and about a one year old boxer terrier mix. The terrier mix Gidget is very agressive towards the the pitt, peaches. The start to play around and then it becomes agressive. I think the terrier wants to be the leader of the pack and the other dog wont stand for it. I am not sure what to do change this is you have any ideas let me know please.
Thank you for taking the time out to read my email. Ashley

I have a standard poodle that is extremely jealous. She won't let me play with my cat, rabbit, rats, or let me clean my fish tank without letting me know that it's her time, all the time! She won't even let me vacuum the floor with out demanding I drop what I am doing and give her my undevided attention! If I walk outside just to get the mail or something, she freaks out and sits at the door and barks. When I walk back inside she acts like I've been gone for hours. I feel like she doesn't think it's ok to leave the house. We give her a lot of attention, is it possible we are giving in to her too much? Please help us break this jealousy cycle!!

For Lisa M Ferrara-Daly

I have a male Doberman that does the same thing. I believe he was just doing it bcause we have other dogs in the house.

I went on ebay and bought him "Belly Bands" Its a 5 inch wide terry cloth band with velcro. If they pee, the wet is on him and not in the house. He hated peeing on himself.

When he would come in from outside, I said "come get your pee pee pants on" lol He'd run to the couch, put his front feet up on the arm and stand there to get them on. I would give him a treat for doing as I asked. It took about 2 weeks to get use to wearing them without trying to chew them off.

He was not allowed to be without his pee pee pants except for outside or in his crate. It took about 3 solid months of wearing them and being corrected for wetting himself before this behavior stopped. Once in a while, I will see him smelling things around the house like he is going to "mark" something...all I have to say is "where are those pee pee pants" and he stops. Hope this helps! Good Luck

We have the hungriest dog in the world!! She is a lab, and is well feed and we exercise her every day. But, we can not walk outside to our yard or have food anywhere near her with her attacking us.
When we take her to the beach for a walk, all she does is look for dead fish and trash to eat, or she is stealing bait from fishermen. Forget taking her on family picinics or outings because she will just constantly try to take the food out of our mouths. Yes, it really is this bad. Please, what can we do to make her learn to respect food. We can`t even eat outside on our patio because our beautiful, but wild, lab will just kill us to get to the food.
thankyou, we love you and the show,
dee.

A-M-A-Z-I-N-G...

Simply amazing. I must say, I saw the title on the DirecTV menu and scoffed a little - picturing in my mind a show along the lines of Pet Psychic..... But I tuned in and my jaw hit the floor. I watched in amazement how this man just took over complete control with these seemingly out of control dogs. A lot of editing I thought - WRONG AGAIN I was!

I know Cesar probably won't see this; but I just love the show - the human training - the knowledge Cesar provides to us. How in the world one man can make such an incredible difference in the daily lives of us and our dogs. Having a troubled dog is horrible. It takes up so much time and energy during just a single day. Cesar has told us what we are doing wrong. And when we follow his guidence -our days are suddenly stress free! And we have happy dogs!

I have a female Old English Mastiff. She's been a pain in my butt for almost 3 years. Have thought many times of getting rid of her, but I'm afraid as well that she would die. (At least I've heard that this breed can be so depressed after their original master leaves them they will not eat... not sure on that, but she lost nearly 15 lbs. on our last vacation when we boarded her.) She charges the door when someone rings the doorbell. I thought she was going to go through the glass on the door when she jumped up. I hated taking her for a walk because I didn't seem to have full control. I wanted so badly to take her to parks and such -but she was so much work.

THEN...I watched this show. And I thought....it looks so easy. Can it really be that easy? I tried it. Someone came over to the house, rang the doorbell. She ran like fury. I went calmly to the door and didn't say a word to her. I stepped in front of her and put my hand on her nose and gently pushed her back (she backed up really - it was just the motion that she already understood somehow.) After a few more times of that, she still runs to the door (but no jumping now), but as soon as I show up she backs up and lets me in front. I usually have to tell her to sit, but she will actually sit until I release her - I don't have to hang on to her collar for "the ride" as she wiggles and whines to see the person whose come to visit. She just sits there looking so calm.

I'm still not doing the daily walks (sorry Cesar, working on it though...) but all I have really started doing is not letting Mollie out the door in front of me. If she does, I make her go back out and sit until I say okay. I've been doing this for maybe 3 weeks and I have a changed dog. I just can't believe it.

Cesar is a God in my book. I've got the DVD and I'll get the book and the t-shirt and all the other crazy stuff that he puts his name on. I might even write him in my will!

What Cesar can do for us and our families is simple and yet completely amazing. It affects our daily lives and makes them better all the way around.

Thank you Cesar for your willingness to share your valuable information and make all our and our dogs lives better! You and your family are a treasure; and we appreciate you so much. Thank you so much. Erin

Hello Cesar,

I have 6 akitas 3 males and 3 females which all come from the same parents but from different litters. 4 from the first litter. and the other 2 are from the 2nd litter. I had a problem with pulling. I learned that if I put the choke around their ears instead of around the neck and hold the leash firmly. They will stop pulling cause of the pressure around the ears and walking them that way they learn you are in control of the walk. They do stop pulling. You can let it hang after they learn to stop pulling as Cesar you must lead the dog and not let the dog lead you.

Question is this now!!! I have control of walking but what do I do about these dogs who chew up all of my clothes and coats, shoes, tried the whole chew toy thing and it doesn't work.

Also how do I find an akita that escaped on me and has been gone for a week and 2 days!!!

My daughter moved home with her 2 Jack Russell Terriers. We have 2 cats both 14 years old. Cassie (one of the Jack Russell's) almost killed one of the cats. Now we have to keep the cats on the (finished)basement level during the day and let the dogs be free during the day. Then we let the cats have the run of the house in the evening and put the dogs in my daughters living space upstairs. This is a real circus. Is there anyway to train the dogs to co-habitate with the cats without fearing for their life in the process? Thank you for ANY help!!

I have a 5 month old rottweiler/german shepard. He's absolutly wonderful around people and gets excited every time someone even calls his name. But he is very territorial and food aggressive towards other dogs.He has not even growled or done anything aggressive towards people, but he hates other dogs coming near his cage and his food bowl.Is there anything I can do?

I am confused. I got my rescue dog over a month ago and it has been pretty good for the past month. Recently it just started a new terrible habit. He walks up to people entering my house and just pees right in front of them. I do not know hwat to do. I have a hard time telling him no or doing any corrective behavior because he was terribly abused by his old owner. If he just senses I am the least bit dissappointed he pees even more. What should I do?

My Husband and I have just adopted a 4 month old, male german shepard mix. Neither of us has had a puppy in 18 years. After 4 to 5 days he has taken to grabbing my leg and mounting it and he is starting to become aggressive with me. When my husband is not around he is very calm and loving but when my husband is around, or has just went out the aggressive behavior begins. I keep calm and assertive but he is presistant. I am not sure what i should do, is this common? Thank you if you could address this in your show or in your blog.

I live in Jax, Fl. and I heard about your show over and over again and I'm disappointed that I have never seen it, especially since I recieved a doberman puppy 4 month ago. I saw on the internet 10am but it did not come on. Is the show on dish??? Thank you and I look foward to see your show. Will thier be a DVD for shows I missed??? thanks,Angela

I have a wonderful 3 year old very well behaved Yellow Lab.(AKC Canine Good Citizen) His personality is friendly, calm, happy go lucky, totally non-aggressive. He has been the best companion one could have. He's great on walks but sometimes I like to take him to dog park. Only one issue I am not sure how to deal with. Whenever we go to a dog park it becomes embarassing. My dog mounts every possible dog in sight. Sometimes, he makes the wrong dog angry and I worry he's going to get hurt. Other people "sometimes" get upset. (Usually the ones that don't know dog behavior). I know this is what dog's do, but with him it seems impulsive. There are times when we go and he's just fine. Probably because all the dogs there are very dominant and he knows it. If I tell him "Off" he will stop at the momment, but it's like he can't help himself. A little while later, he's back. He doesn't want to fetch a ball while we are there, so I don't know how to distract him. Should I just avoid dog park all together? (Seeing this is where the problem only exists) He really loves to go and it's great exercise for him.

Does anyone out there have a suggestion?

i have a puppy at home and she bites and i mean "bite" . my dads hands are so bit up that sometimes he has to wear gloves in the house . i think that it is because she is almost 4 months old and still hasn't got one shot from the vet yet ! i also think that it could be in her jeans because her mother has the same temper that she has but her , dad is one of the niciest dog that i've ever met . she bites so much that we all have to wear boots in the house.i hope that as she gets her shots and goes outside she gets better and calmer becuse my whole family loves her and justs wants her to stop biting !

I have a maltese dog that is 1 year old. My problem may seem silly to you. My dog's name is Kodie. Kodie constantly barks. He barks at every single noise he hears. He almost seem terrified when he hears a noise. I have no idea what to do? He wakes me all night long. I have tried keeping the windows shut and running the air condioner all the time. But my electric bill is getting out of control.
I mentioned this problem to my vet, and he said, "It is a discipline problem". He told me to send Kodie to obedient school. I can't afford that!!
So, can you please help me Cesar. I am at my witts end. I love Kodie, but it is very frustrating to deal with a barking dog.

Thanks in Advance,
Tim Clark

Postal worker expressed fears:
"...and starts barking it sort of unnerves you. I love watching the show and I am trying not to be so afraid."
It is easy to say stay calm and assertive when facing these fears.
As a German Shepherd owner, I understand how people can react to his size....and then he reacts to that emotion, then I react to the dogs reaction....
More than ever, the importance of "positive imagery" or envisioning positive outcomes becomes important in thes situations.
TIP for pleas for help: Find a canine behaviorist in your part of the world if you need help...there are many who do as Cesar does...thinks like a dog!
I am huge fan of show and learning canine behavior obsessively.

Hey
I sure hope you can help me and my family. We recently got a 4 month old german sheperd.Shadow is the most adorable dog.The problem is she a urinates in her crate and she has to be bathed daily as we'll as cleaning out her cage. The other issue is she goes absolutely nuts when you pet her in her cgae for the night and cries and barks until she passes out.Do you have any help for me.

About a year ago i adopted a white doberman,I took the dog blindly and ever since the first day the dog is very unpredictable. In the beginning i crated him for the time he spent in the house, but the aggetion grew to the point to where i have to kennel him out side,I live in ohio and the winters are cold and he is short haired.going out to feed him one day i seen a very kind side of him but that only lasted for a few mins. One min he is happy and the next he is ready to kill.I have worked with recuses alot even battered dogs! But nothing like this, you can not raise your hands or arms in any way or he is all teeth and noise. In the begining of febuary I have brought him back in the house,After seeing cesar work with the white shepard.Though he is still crated in the house i do let him out for a brief time a few times a day,and when im petting him he puts his head down and allows as much as you'll give .Im still very afraid to let him roam the house.I know he has been threw two or three homes and if i can't find some happy medium with him and the mood swingsI fear i will have to have him put down........So please if their is any one out there who can help or give me helpful hints feel free to e-mail me thank all of you.I do love the dog and i fill really bad for him and I don't know if he has been threw a bad experience but im doing all i can for him .thanks

Hi- I just saved a purebred female boxer from euthanization today. She has obviously had a bad life, but has been a pet at one time since her ears are clipped and tail is docked. However, she knows no commands at all. My first questions is how should I start her training? Also, she is super sweet to everyone she has met. The only thing I am concerned about is how she will react to my two other animals. She has shown no aggression at all towards any humans, and in fact is very clinging. I have an 8 month old boxer female(the new boxer is about 2-3 years old) and she aggravated the newer boxer by trying to play and coming up to her while she slept. Also, I have a cat that has no fear of any dog, and everytime the new boxer see's him, she stands completely stiff at attention and stares at him. She will whistle and whine if she can't get to him. I have held him and let her sniff and lick him, but only with me there. She looks as if she is just waiting for him to make a sudden move. Will this go away or b/c of her past, will her attitude towards other animals stay the same. Any help asap well be greatly appreciated! Thanks! Any suggestions from anyone will help! hayleyowings@yahoo.com

My Main Man Mr. Milan,
Within a period of one year, I've adopted a female German Shepherd, and soon later found a three-month old boxer on the streets near my apartment. They're in love and between the two of them no problems exist whatsoever. My problem is this...Everyday I bring my dogs to work with me where four other dogs live in a large backyard. These four others live there and my dogs live with me. One of these dogs is an EXTREMELY DOMINANT, OVERLY AGGRESSIVE WOLF/WHITE GERMAN SHEPHERD mix (whom I've considered non-trainable from the beginning). Between my German Shepherd and this wolf there has always been conflict, which in turn has made my dog extremely aggressive towards any dogs she sees daily. Whether she's in the car or on a leash, she lashes out at these supposed "invaders". In one situation the leashed slipped out of my hand as she jetted across the street and went head-to-head with a rottweiller on a leash. She didn't ask questions...just went for it. Training and walks are something I can work at, but it seems that aggression (since there are lives at stake) is a feat I cannot overcome without a pack of sturdy dogs to aid the process. It would be nice to live side by side with my dogs without her fiercely barking at every dog she sees. I've thought of taking my german-shepherd into a dog park to get her over her fear of dogs, but I fear that this wolf does continuous damage on any progress I can attempt to give her. Is there hope?

Calm & Assertive,

Yours Truly,

Nicholas

I just found this blog and am astonished at the number of aggressive dog problems I am seeing! No wonder the bite statistics are so high. Cesar, you are a pure gift to the TV viewers. If all dog owners would understand that the dog is first and foremost a 'dog', a lot of these problems would never occur. I have two wonderful Dobermans, had three before these. We do obedience training. Both have a CGC, both have ther Working Aptitude Certficates from the Doberman Pinscher Club of America, my girl has her CD and Rally Novice, and my boy is working on both of those titles. However, we do have a really annoying problem; I'm at a loss how to fix this one. We have a fairly large fenced yard. Our neighbor has a Belgian Shepherd. When all the dogs are out at the same time, the Belgian will run at the fence and run away. Tease, tease, tease, just gets my dogs into a real frenzy of fence-running and barking. I don't view this as aggression on either side, but it's driving us nuts! They get so zoned-out, they will not come when called. Totally focused on the game. We have to go out with slip leads to capture them. Once the lead is on, we get their attention. They have churned up the lawn by the fence and if it's been damp, come in coated with mud. UGH! I'm not sure visually dividing them would cure this, as I think they would know she's there, can hear her, smell her. I would love to see an episode on such a problem. I record everything on TIVO so I can watch and watch again. I just wish we could make it mandatory for ALL dog owners to watch the Dog Whisperer.

Hi Cesar. 3 words. LOVE YOUR SHOW! I try so much to implement your techniques on Pinky my six mos old lab/boxer mix. I've been using a training book called New Complete Dog Training Manual by BRUCE FOGLE. On one of the training techniques it addresses aggression. It states if your dog growls or tries to bite you to grab the dog by the scruff of the neck. Now I've only done this maybe about three times in the 2 1/2 months I've had Pinky. I got her from a humane society in my town. The only reason I've done this was because on some occasions if I'm on the couch which she is not allowed on when I tell her off she will get extremely hyper and kind of snap or try to bite me. I'm not sure if she thinks I'm playing but once she even brings her teeth close to me I grab the scruff and tell her to go down and I don't let go till she stops squirming or trying to bite. I've switched from grabbing the scruff to putting her leash under my shoe which forces her to lay down and I will hold her on that down position for about ten minutes and then tell her she's a good girl and let her go. I almost ussually have a leash on her in the house just in case I need to grab her quickly without scaring her and she's ussually really good with obeying, just those little episodes she has. I'm not sure if she is trying to challange my pack authority or it's normal puppy behavior. I am to the point where I only have to look at her or go psss to her and she will immediately sit and wait for my next order so I don't know where this hyper episode is coming from. Does she need more exercise? Also another problem. She is really getting better with the leash pulling when I walk her but there are times she will still pull. I do the heel sit command which she does but once I say o.k. she's back to pulling. When she doesn't pull and walks good she will sometimes get in close proximity to my feet and get her little paw stepped on! Help!

Dear Cesar and Staff, 02/20/06

I have a new(3 month old) Bullmastiff pup. He is a dream except,he gets excited when we come home from work or others come to visit. Bear bites, although still teething, and those needle teeth hurt, sometimes breaking the skin and causing bleeding. He has chew toys, we walk him, though not regularly(daily), and we have 2 Chihuahuas. The female likes him, the male hates his guts. Bear wants to play with them, but thats out of the question. I need puppy help for what will soon be a massive dog. He has a great personality, but no control over it. What do I need to do? I don't want an out-of-control Bullmastiff. I need to stop the behavior NOW. Please help me!!!

Jodi...In regards to your german shepherd having itching problems and changing foods, my neighbor's german shepherds have had similar problems with food allergies. It seems that grains are a problem. I have recently switched to the BARF diet... bones and raw food. So far so good for my guys. They are three german shepherds who had other nutrition problems, not itching, and we are on our second week of the diet. Just Google barf and try that. It sounds horrible, but they just love it and have had no problems so far. Commercial foods are very processed and some dogs are sensitive to what is in it, especially the grains and corn. Dogs don't really eat a lot of that in the wild so they don't handle that well. I do feed mine some veggies and fruit which I put in the cuisinart with some chicken livers. There is a FAQ website that is very informative. Good luck!

Jodi...ps...a friend of mine also had a hair loss problem with her dog and it turned out to be a low thyroid.

Hi I have a 3 year old jack russell and I put him in a cage before my dad and I leave, and I also put newspaper down so incase he dose pee it won't stain the tile. But we're getting tired of him peeing out of his cage so how do I prevent this? Also his cage is big enough for him to turn around in and lift his leg. I was also wondering if we get Jack a smaller cage then he'll stop, it that true?
thanx

Please HELP! I don't know what to do. My husband got a female boxer when we first started dating, she is now 3 years old. On the surface she seems like a great dog, she listens to me very well, on the first command. We have to crate her while we are at work, since she ruins the house. What ever she can get her paws on she destroys, anything from door knobs, and eye glasses to getting in the trash, and going to the bathroom in the house. She will even go in her crate, or on her bed. We have taken her to the vet to ensure that she doesn't have any bladder problems. I think she does this to show us attitude. When we come home or are in the shower she comes to the room where we are and relieves herself on our clothing or right by us, even after she has been let out. Every night we go to bed and she destroys something new, we cover the couches, and she still finds her way onto them. My husband wanted a dog to be a companion. He babies this dog to now end. He greets her everyday with hugs and kisses. He allows her to follow his every step, he has allowed this behavior for 3 years. I feel she pushes his limits and knows she can get away with anything, he treats her like a baby. I think that we have to be firm with her until we teach her that WE are the leaders in the relationship. I also think that she will continue to be destructive until my husband is firm with her. She runs from me and goes to him for protection. This is where we butt heads I feel we need more structure and to be firm with her until she realizes we cant be "pushed around", and my husband feels I am to strict. This has put such a strain on us trying to not blame each other for the problems with the dog. How can we get this dog to find her place in our home, with our ruining everything we work so hard for? Please help!

hi i just recently got a 10 week old bullmastiff/german shepherd. SHE IS SOOO CUTE! but... i have noticed a problem....she bites and breaks the skin....she is VERY possesive over her food so much that if you go near it or pet her during her eating time she growels! i dont know what to do......she is sooo cute and she has her good moments...do i give her to a shelter or try obedience training...i am scared that she is going to hurt someone

Kylie,

Don't give up on her. She is only 10 weeks old. I am sure you can train her well. One of my dogs (chow mix) has always been possesive of her food (unless it's kibble, which she doesn't like). She still growls and we learned to leave her alone while she is eating. She was agressive with us (biting with breaking skin aquite a few times), but she hasn't done it in the last three years (she is 5 now). What changed her behavior was adopting another dog. I was always wondering why adopting Ruffy changed Blackie so much for better. I can take her anywhere now, off leash and she is my perfect dog (except that she fights with Ruffy, but it's another stiory).

Nina,

I can understand your husband a little. I treat our youngest dog Sparky in a similar way. She is 2, and she is absolutely the sweetest dog that I have ever seen. She sleeps in my bed, and is always either with me or the kids. Even though I love all my three dogs the same, I don't have any problems telling my older dogs "no" or giving them rules, boundaries and limitations. With Sparky, when she looks at me with her big eyes, I let her do anything she wants. I have no idea why. She used to chew stuff and be destructive in the beginning, when she first got to our house. But she is getting plenty of excercise (as are my other dogs), and I am buying her rawhide to chew. That stopped the desire to chew everything. I think that lots of excercise if the most important thing. She is tired after our morning run (off leash, 45-75 min), chasing everything that moves, than she sleeps most of the time while we are at work.
Good luck with your dog.

Laura,

Where do you get your bones from? I am trying BARF too, but still looking for a place to buy bones from without too much meat attached, as my dogs eat the bones, but play with the meat (Sparky brought it once and put on my pillow to share with me, I am a vegetarian, so I wasn't happy about it).

I have a six month old beagle who I have been working with using Cesar's techniques. She is a good natured dog but does not seem to want to abandon the bad habit of "play bite" or "play chew" with our hands or clothing. She has just grown in her adult teeth and we correct her every time she does it, but she does not change her behavior. Beagles have a reputation for being stubborn but Cesar has said it's not the breed that causes the problem. I hope he can do an episode about this kind of behavior!

Hi
first off let me say that I truly believe in Cesars way of handling dogs and have done similar most of my life.
I have just rescued a PitBull used as bait in a fighting ring. He is severely emaciated, physically abused, and terrified of mostly everything. Wish me luck with his rehabilitation. I will also be going to LA to take on a few more dogs to train as they have asked for my help in doing so.
Carol

I was lucky enough to find Mini at the pound, she was on her last day filthy dirty, and very skittish, after bringing her home she started limping on her back leg, after a visit to the vet, the xray showed two fractures that had not been taken care of so they were fixed, she was walking bone on bone before that, she has been my life saver since the death of my husband who she adored, she is more like a daughter to me, and I spoil her rotten, she has one problem she doesn't like children or men {untill she gets to know them) and is so skittish to noises. she will be 8yrs old this year, she was 2yrs when I got her, she basically is a terrier poodle mix with a lot of chihuaua in her, she weighs an average of around 6lbs, she is the love of my life, how can I assure her that she need not be scared, somone please give me some suggestions please I would really appreciate it, she also has a tendancy to attempt to nip at peoples shoes. Trisha

I love this show. I live in TN and have watched Cesar religiously since it started. I think he is an amazing person and has a true way with dogs. I've used several of his techniques on my Australian Shepherd and it works!!! Unfortunately, my dog, Bandit, is deaf and it is harder to discipline him because I can't use the noise. He is a very well behaved dog and for his condition he minds great and discipline is rare. Cesar stresses in every show exercise. I live in a place where people are not respectful of others who have dogs. Theirs roam freely and in packs so it
is hard for me to walk him anywhere without fear. I have a park close by with a track, but the houses around have dogs and naturally they too are not on a leash and uncontrolled by their owners. I have yet to see an episode on this situation and wish there would be one so I would know what to do. I can't let him off the leash because he may run off and I have no way of calling him back. That would make me an irresponsible dog owner. I just wish some people would be as responsible and respectful of others, like myself, with their dogs as I am with mine.

Hi Cesar: Your show is super resourceful -- really fun to watch.

Regarding Episode 1 that was aired March 3rd - west coast time with the chihuahua "Bandit" --

A couple of comments:

#1) wish you would have interacted more with the dog's "true" owner, Tyler.

That kid had a great vibe.

#2) His mother freaked me out.

Hard to believe that a mother is so self absorbed to the point where her own flesh and blood comes second to canine.

Even though she called upon your services to rectify problem with lil' B -- looks like Tyler coming second plays out in other areas of their lives besides the issue with the dog.

Mom needs a "reality" intervention - the sooner, the better.

Tyler is too precious to have to compete for her love, protection, and attention.

thanks Cesar, and keep your wisdom flowing.
Susan

Susan, I wanted to comment about the show on Tyler and the mom. I got tears in my eyes to see how the mom favored the dog over her own son - and the look on Tyler's face, such a wonderful young man!

there are too many blogs on Cesar's web site. I can't keep up with them all. Just wanted to comment and agree with you on that episode.

hello,
I have a german shephard kaiser he is an awesome dog the only thing he has a problem with is other dogs he sees a dog he tries to bite at them and it just scares me baecuse i dont know how to control him. my mom and step dad and i will try to correct him but it just gets worse. If you can tell me any way to get him to stop with this it would be awesome.

cassandra

Hi,
I have three wonderful dogs, but one in particular, a Schnauzer named Whiskey, is giving me problems leash training. I live on a 22 acre farm and have not had to use the leash but thought that he should know and be properly trained. With my other dogs I lived in the city and they were on leashes from very young. Whiskey is already 7 months and deathly afraid of it. He runs from me now when I call him because his afraid I'll have the leash; not always but sometimes. Any suggestions?
He is otherwise the perfect dog. He comes when you call, sits when you tell him, "goes" outside, heels naturally, friendly to all people and other animals. Just the leash.

I love the show what is the schedual for the show I can't
find it and I want to see it. Please can you get that for me?
Thank you brenda

FOR CHRISTMAS 2 YEARS AGO MY FAMILY SUPRISED ME AND BOUGHT ME A PUG, WHICH I HAVE ALWAYS WANTED AND ADORED. I LOVE MY LITTLE GEORGIE, BUT EVER SINCE MY BOYFRIEND AND I MOVED IN TOGETHER, LITTLE GEORGIE SEEMS TO NOW PEE ON EVERYTHING INSIDE OUR HOUSE, THE COUCHES, OUR SHOES, THE GARBAGE CAN, WALLS,OUR BED, JUST ABOUT ANYTHING THAT HE CAN LIFT HIS LEG ON. MY BOYFREIND HAS A VERY LARGE MALE GERMAN SHEPARD THAT IS 7YRS OLD (WHO IS A HOUSE DOG)AND I NOTICED THAT WHEN THE TWO DOGS ARE OUTSIDE, GEORGIE HAS TO PEE EVERYWHERE THE GERMAIN SHEPARD PEES. WE BELIEVE HE DOES THIS MOSTLY WHILE WE ARE SLEEPING, SINCE WE RARELY CATCH HIM IN THE ACT, SO ABOUT TWO WEEKS AGO WE PURCHASED A KENNEL THAT WE NOW KEEP HIM IN DURING THE NIGHT HOPING THIS WOULD STOP HIM, BUT HE IS STILL PEEING IN THE HOUSE WHEN WE AREN'T LOOKING. PLEASE HELP! OTHER THAN THAT HE'S A GREAT DOG, VERY GOOD WITH CHILDERN, ALWAYS HAPPY, ALWAYS BY MY SIDE, I JUST LOVE HIM TO DEATH. PLEASE HELP.

BEST REGARDS,
VERONICA MAATTHEWS
PUG LOVER

Help please! My 13 year old English bull terrier is depressed (we think). For the past three years or so, she has occasionally had what we describe as 'panic attacks' which passed after 24 hours or so, but since the death of her companion of 11 years,a Staffordshire terrier (whom we had to euthanize last year when his cancer became overwhelming) she has steadily become more and more introverted. Nowadays she will only come out of the closet in which she has a bed for rides in the car and walks...funny thing is, she cheers up immediately upon going out of the house and only becomes sad and droopy when we return. So we have a sad little dog who only wants to sleep at home...and a reasonably happy dog when we're out! Furthermore, she will only eat when we feed her either by hand in her closet...or in the back of the station-wagon parked in the driveway! At present she is on 'doggy Prozac' prescribed by our vet..but is showing no sign of improvement in mood (apart when away from the house).
Questions for Cesar:

1. Is this 'depression' and anxiety excacerbated by the death of the other dog?
2. Why is being in the house affecting her so much?
3. Should we indulge her by continuing to feed away from the house? (I am trying to take a 'hard line' on this by putting her food down in the usual place...she ignores it until I break down and hand-feed her again in her closet).
4. Should we get another dog? Or would she crumble completely feeling that her place in the 'pack' has been usurped?
We love Koko very much - even though she is a bit of a drama queen, and it is hard to see her so obviously unhappy (in the house)...and mystifying why she cheers up so much when we take her out. Anyone got any ideas?

i adopted a hafe breed 2 year a go he was when i got him now he is 3 he is hafe pom/pek we we got him they said the lady walk him to go potty we walk him too we have a fance yard he love to go out to play he goes number 1 in the yard i what him go number 2 in the yard if someday i can't walk him i want him to know he can go number 2 in the yard also when we walk him he bark at other dogs also when a dog past the house also when a man come to my house he bark at man i took him to pet smart last year he sit stay lay he did great i just want to teach to number 2 in the yard also teach him don't bark at other dog i enjoy teaching him everyday i teach him sit stay lay when he want to go out he bring a toy to me i know he want to go out his name is philly he is so cute from jami vrana

I wish you could come to my home :) I recently (2 mos ago) adopted a 3yo kelpie mix from a foster program. I knew she was "sensitive" when I got her, but she is afraid of men, children, curtains, phones, paper, cars (in mine or walking by), soda bottles, hugs, back/belly scratches - you name it. So much so that she will hide under my bed if the heat clicks on. And tonight she peed on my bed. We are in obedience and I don't think I could be any calmer with her. Is it possible she just doesn't like me? And can a dog like this learn to be more confident? She was given to the program because the woman's husband didn't like the dog she'd raised from a pup.

Hey my mom and dad are buying me a dog , i want i chihuahua but my parents say that it will attack me is the the truth ?

what would ceaser say about golden retrievers chewing up my entire house....I need serious help people.

I can't get my Chihuahua to walk on leash with me, and once i was triming his nails he was bleed ing non-stop, now he won't let me near him. PLEASE HELP ME MY FAITH LIES IN YOU!
Sincerly, Adam

Dear Adam - I can't believe anyone would be so foolish as to attempt to trim a dog's toenails without knowing exactly what they were doing! How stupid and how cruel! However, if you want to make friends with your dog again, I would advise GENTLE handling of his paws every day to desensitize him. Put him on a leash, then GENTLY touch his paws...nothing else...just a soft touch..then reward him with a treat. Do this every day until he is comfortable with you. AND NEXT TIME, GET THE VET TO TRIM HIS TOENAILS.

Philippa.

Hey ceasar,

I have an Italian grayhound that loves to dig in the yard. the problem is not the fact of him digging in the yard. It's the fact that I've just started a new garden thats only covers 1/4 of the back yard. he feels like he needs to go and walk all over the plants and dig in it I have worked with him to not go in it while I'm out in the yard however, when I'm not out in the yard and he goes out to use the bathroom thats when he turns in to marcus moleious and he digs like there's no tomarrow. what can I do to alter or change this behavior.

For Jodi- I read your post and had the same skin problems with my 2 of my 5 German Shepards. I took them to the Vet,gave them all the meds, baths with special shampoos, nothing seemed to help. I went on the internet and started researching; because my dogs were miserable. I found several sites that said to add vinegar or cider vinegar to their water. That was 15 months ago. Since then I have had no problems. Their coats are beautiful and no more itching and losing hair. Before I started this I talked to my vet and he said it would not hurt to try . So ask your vet what he thinks.

I have tried to get my neighbors to shut there yapping and howling dogs. They are never home and my wife is so all she hears is them howling and barking all day, especially when someone walks by the house, or a nieghbors dog is getting walked, which my neighbor NEVER does for her three dogs. What can I do to get them to be quite. Our association wont do anything and the law wont, or my neighbor, as she is a sinlge Mom (15 year old daughter) that work 2-3 jobs.

MY DOG IS IN BAD SHAPE ,2 DALMATIONS ATTACKED HIM AND MY FATHER AND MY SISTER MY SISTER IS FINE BUT MY DOG WHICH IS A PUPPY SHIH TZU IS NOT GOOD BROKEN RIBS AND BROKEN LEG MY FATER IS BLEEDING ON FOOT.THE DOGS ARE FROM NEXT DOOR NEIGHBORS AND ARE NOT THEIRS ,OUR BILL IS ONLY AN ESTIMATE OF 5,000!

I have 2 dogs (both mixed, neutered males), one is submissive and the other aggressive. The aggressive one (Lucky) is younger and has been displaying aggressive tendancies towards people and other dogs for about 6 months now. He attacks our other dog - has bitten a couple of our neighbors dogs and has now bitten a person. It is escalating and I dont know what more we can do. He gets exercise, discipline and THEN affection, everyday. I cannot give him toys to occupy him while I am at work as he either eats them or is too possessive with them that he attacks our other dog. I am very frustrated at this point as I dont want anyone else to get hurt.......HELP! He has other problems too - he doesnt like bicycles, and wont eat unless I am there.

We just ordered your DVD from your website. Unfortunately,
I could not get it to accept the normal shipping rate, rather than the rush shipping. Please make sure that we are not billed for the rush shipping.

Thank you,

teach me how to train a dog like you

Hi there,

I have a pitbull/mastiff mix. He is 2 years old and 90lbs. He is an indoor dog and is generally in good health. He's up to date on all vaccines and heartworm/flea preventatives (I used to be a dog groomer so I know about proper grooming, feeding, training, walking etc.)
"Lil Man" has developed some sort of skin condition over the past two-months and the vet has no idea what it is. Thought you may be able to help. It started out as dandruff, turned into small scabs and then the scabs fell off and left hairless patches on his sides. The patches have spread into larger patches on his torso only. Like I said he seems fine, he just looks awful. It seems to be itchy for him and so we have kept up his bathing regiment (bath every 2 weeks w/oatmeal based shampoo & conditioner). He has been tested for ringworm, mange, lyme etc. The vet is guessing that it is a food allergy. He has been on allergy dog food (duck & potato) and we have not seen any improvement. Any thoughts?

Thanks,

-Amany

I hope I can get some help. I love the show, but, unfortunately, I have no tv anymore and cant watch. I have 2 small dogs, a 8 mo. old Chihuahua and a 2 yo. Jack/Fox Terrier mix. Both are scared of children and will go after a child if it approaches them, even if I tell them or their parents to stay away from the dogs. I dont know how to break them of them of this terrible behaviour. I am afraid that they will bite a child someday and that they will be taken away. Any advice would be just peachy!!

Thanks!b

I recently rehabilitated an American Bulldog using your techniques. I love this breed! You are an angel!

I was recently one your page looking for how many babies can one dog have and found nothing. this was a complete waste of time. Thanks for nothing!!!!!

I had a feeling that Cesar would not answer since I think he only helps people with money. I'm a single mother of six children all but one is over 18. I have a 2 year old Rodigiam Swayback(however you spell that) and some vets say she has some boxer. When the kids come over she jumps all over them and she had training for this but not eveyone continued. My biggest problem is when a stranger comes over she tries to attack them. Once my 8 year granddaugter was pretending to eat the dogs food and my dog, Fay bit her. Another time a male friend came over and tried to pet her and Fay, my dog bit him too. Yesterday 04-28-06 my 29 year old who has just moved here from California and isn't well known by Fay but has been accepted by her. My son bought Fay, my dog a knuckle bone and put it outside for her to have. Everything was fine but when my son went outside to see how Fay was Fay jumped and attackedmy son and tore up both hands pretty bad. My son fought back. It seems to me Fay, my dog knows this was wrong but I feel she will attack again. Fay is 2 years old. I have watched some of your shows but because of my schedule I can't watch them all. Some seem impossible and I don't believe you can help Fay. And of course since I have no money I'm out of your league. Some say I should have her put to sleep. I don't know what to do and wish that there is someone to help me with this. The note above says you cannot answer individual questions and of course, you proably need to get paid for what I'm asking. The poor have only one option, kill your dog or find something else because there is no way you can help me because I live in Olympia, Washington and the only people on your show have money, nice houses, fine cars and looks good on t.v.. I don't want to be on your show, it's a good show for simple training. I have a bigger problem than some dog pulling me on a leash. Sorry if I sound rude but I'm desperate.

I just adopted a little sheltie mix puppie that is 4 months old. She is just about perfect in everyway she's friendly, smart, and full of energy. The problem is she ignores me when she doesn't want to come in or stop playing when it's time. I know she hears me but turns her head and takes off. I have been late for work a few times now because of this. I know the simple solution is tie her out. I don't want that I want her to listen to me and come when I call her. She listens in the house but not outside. I do elder home care and she comes with me and is a great little dog around elderly people and all people in general I just need her to listen when it's time to go it's time to go! Another thing is she urinates with excitement and has gotten a couple pant legs and I feel just terrible when this happens but I know she can't help it. I would appreciate any tips or comments!

We have a 2 year old Australian Shepperd and we trained him according to Cesars methods. We have a wonderful, obedient and happy dog. We watch every show with great joy. Cesar is the in our opinion the best dog (and people) trainer we have ever seen.
Keep up the good work.

I live in Los Angeles, how can I contact Cesar directly?
I have a dog, Yorkie, that is so undisciplined, that I might have to give him up. He was adopted a year ago from the pound and I have spent countless hours trying to train him, understand him, ease any anxiety he might have and no matter what I try, he still urinates everywhere. It's at the point that I have to replace my couch and clean my carpets constantly.
He is adorable and has a great personality, but at this point I just can't take it any more!
I have had two people tell me I should put him to sleep!
I am afraid if I take him back to the pound or to a private party, he might be abused, because he is so hard to deal with. I just can't stand the thought of someone hurting him...he is so small!

He is eight years old, but I was told he could still be trained.
I recently had someone from the Valley come over for 2 1/2 hours claiming to be a "dog whisperer" and he only addressed my dogs constant barking.
His philosophy on training is that you never really discipline or speak firmly...you simply feed him snacks to divert his attention away from ill behavior. I felt like I was talking to "Dr Spock", for dogs. I spent $185 and the dog threw up from all the chicken he had been fed. I also spent another $35 on a DVD of this guys techniques.

I will gladly spend money if the results are lasting.
I am absolutely desparate and would like to see if Cesar can help in any way!

Thanks,

Brigitte

I have a collie/shep mix about 90 lbs. She is scared of thunder storms, and kind of sounds, wind blowing etc. She have ripped open two crates and has broken teeth her fangs they had to be removed. The vet has given me meds for the storms but now it is everyday thing. Last year she chewed a hole in the wall and tried to get into it. Please help me! Thanks

Hello,
My name is Kara Pizzetti. I am a breeder of top quality mastiff show dogs. I have a kennel of 3 females and a giant male. I also have 2 german shepherd show dogs. They are all dog aggressive. I am very stressed at the shows and I am sure I am adding to the fire. I wold very much like to show my big male myself. He shows beautifully for me but I am afraid I will loose control of him in the ring. He is quit capable of being a top mastiff in the USA but I am just unable to promote him the way that I want to because of his attitude when he is with me.

Thank you for your time
Sincerely Kara

Cesar, My french bulldog is very aggressive over his food and when he plays. If your eating anything he wont leave any one alone. When he plays he bites feet and its not a plesant feeling. We need help, we have a new baby and we ccant trust him around here. What should we do?

Thanks,
Katelyn

I have a seven year old pit bull Chewey who has some very bad behaviorial issues. I raised Chewey from a puppy along with his father Snickers. They were a great pair of dogs well behaved and loving. Chewey was very abused by my ex-husband and when he was a puppy he did not show any issues from this abuse. Once he hit three years old and his father Snickers had to be put down (he had hemolitic anemia)Chewey developed a lot of behavior issues. He chases his tail obsessively. Is afraid of almost all men (except men in my family) has seperation anxiety, Can't stand other male dogs and is afraid of everything. He is on Clomipramine and Pro Quiet prescribed by my local vet. However this somewhat helps makes him tired but not really. When he is alone he chases his tail and nothing stops him!! I am lost here, I am afraid that I am going to lose another dog, please help!

My husband and I recently got a bullmastiff puppy (12 weeks old now). We have begun to try to walk her on a leash in our neighborhood. But she frequently stops and sits or eventually lays down. We are very frustrated. We often have to practically drag her back to our house. She will hardly walk at all. I have gotten a copy of your book and realize the importance of daily walks. Please help!

This may seem like an age old question. I have recently aquired a 4 month old Rotti pup from breeder. It is clear to me that this was a kennel dog, he has over-zealous want for food, boardering aggresssion, which I am dealing with by hand feeeding and nothing in life is free. The reason why I am writing is that he appears to not have the instinctual behavior not to defecate in the crate. The crate is proper size(stand, turn, lie down). he will defecate and urinate on leash after some time outside in yard, will not have any issues while in house on leash undedr supervison, but when crated urinates defecates and then will even attempt to eat stool. I know that this must be developmental, from rearing in a kennel. What can be done to change this? I am fearful of feeding in crate with food issues. Is this separation anxiety? Plase help as I am trying to nip this in the bud....

I absolutely love the Dog Whisperer! I just really wish he would come down south (South Carolina, that is). I have a 50 lb. problem and it's mainly my fault.
We brought our sweet baby Australian Shepherd 'Chico' home 16 mos. ago and it has been quite an adventure. We live in a rural area but I cannot let him roam free or off the leash. Due to the hot weather, he has been staying inside our home for a few weeks now and I do let him go outside to his large fenced in area, temperature permitting. My problem is he is very dominant and bites hard at my husband and I all the time.
It is basically his way or no way!
I know this is a herding breed and we chose him for that purpose, but he terrifies our cows and I was really afraid he would get stepped on so we decided to keep him as a pet. I know bad choice. 85% of the time he is an excellent dog - the other 15% he is hell on 4 paws. I love him and he is very protective over me. He is our only 'child' and we love him, we just need some help with the dominance and the biting.
Thanks

Hallo I absolutely adore your site. You have beautiful graphics I have ever seen.

I hava a german shepherd Mikey, he is a freindly little thing. when someone stands at our door he barks, his tail straight, but when he she enters, she/he has to sit down cause' Mikey jumps and lick her/him so much that sometimes i think of putting a bord outside saying "If you want to come in, plese bring a towel."

i hate your site. (joking)

ok so here's the deal, my boyfriend & I just adopted a small pitbull mix (a little bigger then a boston terrier but has that big jaw), we have 4 cats. We were told she was fine with cats. SHE WANTS TO EAT THEM! She is great in every other way, but that is a big one. I don't want to give her up but she shows such aggression with them, 2 like to bolt when they see her & off goes the prey drive, one is just scarred stiff & the other is ready to approach her in a standoff (thankfully the big one). She was in a shelter for almost a year & about to be put down, so I think they didn't know about cats & were just trying to find her a home. We have had her only for 2 weeks. I'm just in panic over here, one of the cats slipped out of the room & thankfully we were quick enough to grab our dog before she really did anything.
any help would be appreciated.

Just wondering when you'll be coming to St. Louis, MO, or have you already been there, in which case, WAH! Thank you!!!

I am looking for a great dog to exercise outdoors with. I am a jogger and I need something that can keep up with me. Do you have any suggestions?

dear ceaser,

here is a question for : If you have a barking dog that means the dog is trying to say that he is bored or needs more attention or what ? thats my question

thanks

Mimi -
The answer to your question is, one of the pair of Miniature Pinchers, I believe the name was Vicky or something similar. Cesar remarked that he had learned about that and wished that they would have contacted him first; he was obviously upset that the owners took such an action without contacting him.

Hi Cesar,
I love your show... and i love your pack... But i do have a problem... i have a 3 in a half year old deaf pit bull that i've had since he was 6 weeks... i've taught him sign language he is a very smart annimal... and just recently got a boston terrier... at the time i did not know that the boston terrier was deaf... i had to find out on my own... needless to say.... my 2 boys do not get along.... but the strange thig is... my pit bull isnt the one going after the boston... the boston is going after him.. so we have to keep them in seperate rooms at all times... i was wondering if you could give me any advice as to what to do? or how to go about doing it..
Thank You,
Sandra
