Healing the Body, Mind, and Spirit (Airs, Friday, January 26)

If your dog has experienced an injury, it's important that his mental health gets healed as well as his body, which means reintroducing him to the pack as soon as he gets the okay from the vet. Remember, like humans, dogs are social creatures. Their pack is their life. Just make sure the dogs he's with are balanced. If he's been away from social behavior for a while, these dogs will help to gradually build his confidence. Plus, a controlled situation is best as opposed to a public dog park where the atmosphere can take on a free-for-all feel and make him feel anxious and frustrated.

hey i saw the show tonight and i would like to know how can i get the info for howie. if you could please send it to me i would really like it. thank you.

I was so happy to see that you helped Henry. He is such a cute dog. it is awful to see when animals are abused. Thank you for helping Henry.

We think Cesar is "right on"! I've had G. Shepherds for 40 years and learned early on that dogs need a pack and a job to be happy. We've learned many new ideas that have helped us with our Lab who is of a totally different mentality than the Shepherds...& it is working! Thank you Cesar and please ignore all those other trainers who cannot believe or tolerate the true "simplicity" & effectiveness of your approach. I have left more than one "professional" dog training course, where the trainer was cruely abusive to either the owner or the dog... thank you!

I was so happy that Howie got better. I love this dog from the first moment I saw him ....I will like to adopt him. Please give me information how can I do this.

I live with the gang of 6 and have devoted most of my blog to living with the pack, MODERATOR'S NOTE: Please do not post outside web links to the blog. Thanks!
where I recently reviewed your show! I'm always impressed with your episodes.

I recently experienced an interesting situation-- read my archives (may, june, july) where we had elective surgery (tibial plateau leveling osteotomy) on my "big daddy's" -- or my packleader's leg. He had to be confined and isolated for 8 weeks. It was interesting because the rest of the pack knew he was in the home, they often saw him from a distance and always sensed him. Winston was "there" but not really "there." The other 5 were "lost" and a new leader did not emerge. Just very interesting situation, how he led the pack--mentally, from a crate in another part of the house. We are still dealing with some anger issues, but like you say, dogs live for the present & he's doing well & working as a leader full time.

Keep up the good work--your show is helping families and dogs.

Please keep us informed on Howie's progress. He is a beautiful dog who deserves a great home. Let us know when he gets adopted. Yesterday, I called the animal hospital where Howie is staying and the receptioninst told me that I was the 10,000th call about Howie that day!

Howie looks exactly like my dog, Hobie... and their names are different by one letter! I mean, they are spitting image of each other. Anyone know where I can download a photo of Howie?

My lab/golden retriever mix recently broke a tooth she had to have it extracted and prior to the extraction and ever since she has decided she doesn't want to eat anymore. I was getting very concerned and so started hand feeding her she would not willing take the food so I would open her mouth and put it inside. Very frustrating and a friend of mine told me I am probably prolonging the problem and to see if you had some words of wisdom. It has been a week since her tooth was taken out. They did have to go in and dig out the root the tooth was not dead or abcsessed but she had refused to eat also prior to the extraction. any words of wisdom and helpful suggestions would be very much appreciated.

My question is kind of reverse, I think. My dog is getting very old and soon will die. I am near hysterical each time I pay attention to my dog. I usually cry or am near to crying. That is several times a day since I am homebound disabled with a bit of anxiety disorder and I take care of him.
I think that he picks up on my anxiety and gets overly excited sometimes lately. I wonder if that is me or his age. He is 14 and is a rescue and we think he is a cocker Spaniel, poodle, terrier mix.

Hi there....I was also trying desperately to find out about Howie and how I could adopt him...I currently have a Lab mix rescue and am looking to take in another. Where do I go for this info? I sadly missed the first part of his section on last Friday's show to know where he is.

We have a cocker spannel named Wally we desperately need help with. He apparently is overl emotionally stessed. When my wife got him, before we got married, she would keep him inside but now he is having to stay outside. This is due mainly because he could not be house broken despite the fact she used different methods. So he whines when we put him out and also after we bring him in. We can't get him groomed beause noone will take him because he is afraid of strange people with the exception of small children. We do not know what else to do, the vets can't help and all of our family and friends can't or won't keep him because he is so afraid of other people. We desperately need some help or we will be forced to get rid of him.
thanks

Hi There

Howie has found a home.
My wife and I adopted Howie last week and he has settled in fantasticly. He is Happy and Loved.
Thanks to Cesar and all the Gals and the Vet

Neil and Summer

i just loved the way you work with dogs.i need a strong brother like you holla

Regarding Howie.....

I called the animal hostpital in Atlanta early this week and was elated to find out that Howie had been adopted. Since I saw him on Ceasar's show, I had been a little stressed out hearing about his original circumstances & his need for a good home. I had told my wife that if he did not get adopted soon that I would be making the 15 hour trek from South Texas to Atlanta and try to adopt him. I am very happy that he has found a good home.

Congratulations to Neil & Summer on their adoption of Howie. He is a beautiful dog well deserving of a good life, free from abuse and full of love. I hope they treat him like the gift that he most certainly is!!!

I watch faithfully, I have a rescue cairn terrier that whines and begs and has a great overappetite and has seperation anxiety badly. If he is not with someone he tends to mark different places and I began to use boundary spray and he hasn't returned as of yet. He is eight years old and came from a two person older couple he bonded to the male and his brother to the female and when the older man died suddenly the woman began to ignore him and just wanted her dog that had bonded to her. It has been an interesting first 7 months and I am hoping as time goes on that he will stop the behavior of rushing toward runners and people walking fast. I am using Cesar's techniques and some things are working and I am trying to be a better pack leader!!!! Cesar you are AMAZING!!!!

I have recently become a pet sitter. I love animals and have a deep respect for them. I recently came across an animal that is a mix breed and lives in a rather emotional family. Some are loud some are too aggressive. The dog was a rescue pet and has a very bad problem of attacking if any person puts their hand near him. Even if you just put your hand out to let him smell it to get the scent. Which I do not do. I believe the dog will get to know me by just being in my calm presents. I think this is wright. The other day this dog went after my boy friend who happens to be the father of the owner of the dog. Watson did a lot of damage to my boy friends right hand that required a lot of medical attention. I am going to be pet sitting in April and I wanted to make sure that my thoughts of being the pack leader and showing pack leadership is going to be good. Or maybe this dog because of being abused by former owners should be handled another way? Please I would like some input. I have never felt that their were bad pets just misinformed owners.

I realize Howie was the big story of this episode, but I must say the story of Skyler, Cassie and Tori know ranks as one of my all-time Cesar favorites! Cesar's comments about Tori's "cooties" still has me laughing long after the episode has finished.

Cesar, you rock! Your humor makes your calm, assertive techniques truly inspirational and so much fun. Keep up the good work.

Whew, I am sooo happy that Howie found the right home. I must say, after rescuing over 12 dogs in the past 15 years, the best and fastest recovery is a solid, safe and consistent and happy environment. Currently my friendly, rescued pack has one black and one red lab/mix, and three Bichon's, all house dogs, with their own bedroom. Lots of sunshine, green acres and fences! Like Cesar said, as participants in the rescue and rehab, sometimes, the biggest thing we can do for them, is to let them go - to the RIGHT home. Tough on us, better for them. Congrats to their new owners, and lets all spread the word that our Humane Societies everywhere, have a lot more "Howies" without the benefit of the show! Adopt a pound dog, and make a difference!

remind all dog lover's - no raisins or grapes, toxins in the fruit are very lethal to doggies! NO treats that are grapes, we mean well, their kidney's cannot handle it

We were wondering if Neil and Summer had any updates about Howie's progress. We saw the episode in a rerun last night and were thrilled to hear that Howie has been adopted. We seem to be in the good company of many who were moved and wanted to give Howie a permanent and loving home. How is Howie?

I am so tearfully happy that Howie has found a good home. I saw this episode this weekend and I have done nothing but think about Howie since. To the now owners, please let us know how he is doing every now and then and send pictures if you can. It would be nice to see how he is adapting. Thanks

To all who are interested in Howie's life now...
He has been with my husband and I for almost a year now! We honestly cant imagine our lives before he came. He is truly my angel with fur and stays by my side wherever I go. He loves his home and our nine year old cat Skitters.(I wouldnt go as far as to say the feeling is mutual, but she tolerates him!) We live on an acre and he runs around chasing bunnies and squirrels. If he's lucky enough to catch up to one he simply doesnt know what to do! He is sooo gentle and wouldn't dare hurt one. He just gives them all heart attacks!!! He LOOOOOVES car rides to anywhere and his favorite toy is a squeaky ice cream cone which he carries around in his mouth and even falls asleep with! My brother and 5 yr old nephew Gavin moved in with us this summer as my brother is going through a messy custody battle. Howie follows little Gavin everywhere and even goes into his room at night to check on him before comming to bed. Gavin adores him and Howie has been a light in this little boys life at a time when he's needed it the most. I realized the other night that he is not only just my angel but is an angel to all of us. Thank you a million to Ceaser, once again, for giving Howie a chance at learning how to love life.
We will load some pics soon for all to see!!!

We have just seen the episode in the UK of the Dog Whisperer with Howie and we just had to know that he had found a new loving home. So happy to know that he did find that loving home with the Viljoen family.
You are great Cesar, you are such an inspiration!

We couldn't help but be touched by Howie's remarkable story. After watching a rerun of this episode, we immediately looked up the Animal Hospital of Towne Lake to see if the dog named Howie was still there and if we can pay him a visit him when we are in Atlanta. We are so grateful that he has found a loving home and that he is romping happily and living a full life as a dog. We would love to pay a visit to Viljoen family. Please keep us posted on the dog Howie's progress. It would be great to have a follow up episode on Cesar's show, it would be awesome lesson about the power of "Inseeing". Thanks Cesar, Animal Hospital of Towne Lake & those who have contributed to dog Howie's rehabilitation. Loving regards from Columbus, OH!

We want a REUNION episode of HOWIE. c'mon...we want to see him in his happy home now. I did a search on the website because I was so intrigued by Howie's story. I've worked in rescue for many years being a foster family. I've adopted two myself. When I saw Howie I knew he needed a good home and I was willing and able. . Even though it's not my own....I'm still thrilled he is homeward bound.
