The Enemy Within

When you deal with animals, you can't expect them to rationalize your good intentions. And when it comes to training, clients often expect results too soon. Because of this, both the dog and the owner can become very frustrated. This can also create a fight-or-flight instinct within the dog, which can make it extremely difficult for him to achieve calm-submission. To get the results you're looking for, you first need to gain the dog's trust and respect. And above all, you need patience.

The second element I find that is all too oftern overlooked as well, is that when things are not working with the dog, for the person working with them, stop and take a long HONEST look at what is going on with that person inside, emotionally and mentally.

Beverly D'Angelo taught me about how we energetically tank emotions into people less powerful then ourselves (generally weaker family members. I have talked on other DW blog entries how I learned my lesson about how true this is after Cesar's seminar drew my attention back to how this factor of dog behavior, affects the success of the change.

When we step outside our stories and really look hard at how the deepest levels of our emotions can inhibit or trigger dogs, there is less conflict because we can chose to give ourselves time out to release that interfering energy becfore returning to work with our dogs, instead of our past issues!

Hi,
I have a Yorkie, 1 1/2 years old. She's very sweet natured, full of energy and quick to learn. I think I'm the pack leader....she does as I say and I make her earn her food by sitting and waiting; she waits at the door going in and out until I tell her etc.BUT when we're walking I'm still trying to get her to stay beside me!!! Sometimes she's really good, and then it seems she forgets. As her neck is small and trachea can easily collapse, I won't put a choker on her...just her harness and I tug on it really hard, but as I say....it's still a job at times. Any comments would be grateful.

Hello Ceasar,,, I am so impressed by your work,, however I dont have a dog.... Do you also work the same magic on cats,,, if not... perhaps you could.

Love the show. Thanks for such wonderful way of sharing how to deal with our pups from within. I would love to see more comments of puppies though. I know Cesar focuses in rehabilitating older dogs, though what about the babies??? We need help too.... I have two 4month old cocker spaniel brothers, and I read as much as I can, though I don't seem to agree with certain philosophies in dog training, especially the babies. Love my puppies and would love to see them well-balanced. Any help? Thanks.

Hellow Cesar,
I love your show. I never own a dog but after watching your show I would actually love to get one. I now understand what it takes to have a healthy relationship between me and a dog. I would love to get a puppie but I do not know anything about training a puppie. Do you have a book about that? If not, do you have a suggestion on a book that I should purchase? I really believe in what you are doing so a suggestion from you would be greatly apprecieted.
Thank you,
Denisa
