Rescue Me, Rescue You

Many people have conversations with their dogs, trying to reason with them. Then they get frustrated and angry when their dogs don't "listen." What we forget is that we are communicating with our dogs all the time, even if it's not with words. Even when we are asleep, dogs are in tune with our rhythms; they know whether we are having a bad dream, a good dream, or an anxious dream. The communication we need to pay attention to is not the verbal part; it's the energy behind it and the outcome of it. You say, "You want to go for a walk?" but you also show them the door, the leash, the natural outcome of these words. In a dog's mind, they don't understand the words, but they understand that every time the human goes into this state, this means we are going to the park. As long as you are alive, you are talking with your dogs. They don't know what you're saying or what language you are speaking, but they absolutely know the energy you are projecting. That's why it's much more important to be aware of your energy with your dog, not what words you are saying.

Hello,
I am from Italy, and I've found by chance your website. Since I am a dog lover, and I'm into dog training, I've immediately been amazed by your work, and I'm really interested in what you do.
I saw you sell your dvds, and I would like to know if they are in italian too, or if they at least have italian subtitles.
Looking forward to get your reply,
best regards
Maz

Everytime I think that they cannot do a better job of showing us a technique - the wonderful team of MPH (etc) manages to show. Over the last few months I have been working to close my mouth and really focus with my energy and what a difference it makes.

The lastest rescue rehab I have been working with is going to a new home with the only so delighted at how the least nuace influences her for the designed behavor. More importantly, it has really helped keep me honest with my emotions and what I am doing with my energy. Life has sure become so much more enjoyable since I started practicing Cesar's way!

Please, would you write in spanish too? Because in my country so much people watch you TV program. And all people we have dogs thinks you are a fantastic person and you do a beautiful things with the dogs. But we would like to can read all you write about dogs in spanish.

Sorry by my poor level english.

Best regards

Vicky

I used to work at SPCA's and humane societies who put down dogs who aren't perfect as they are when they are entered into the shelter. I've been using Cesar's technique's on my dominant French bulldog and the results are unbelievable. With patience, consistance, and calm assertive energy he is the perfect dog. We just wanted him to stop humping, running from us, and chewing furniture, but other behaviors we hadn't concentrated on are fixed now too. I've read a lot about the contraversy between these techniques and the critics, and in my opinion it's amazing how close minded some people are. I believe that Cesar's way is the best way and that training is wonderful mental exercise.

Oh, Mr. Millan.

Because of your show, I have learned how to raise my dog. Cookie is a mix between a Pomeranian and a Terrior (from what I know). She does have some problems, but she is an excellent dog. She listens when I call. She loves her leash and when I talk to her she tries to understand to her utmost intelligence. I don't have to point or even look or walk to the door yet she knows. My dog is, YES calm submissive. I do rough-house with her as in making her bark and rolling around with her. As soon as I want her to stop, I make sure I point my finger and say "Cookie" in a stern voice and she reacts and becomes soft and more of a student. Almost as if she wants to learn.

Anyway Mr. Millan. I just want to say that what you are doing is something above most presidents. I believe that what you are doing helps People, not dogs to understand the psychological effect that they make. I really don't want you to ever stop your work.

One thing that I hate is this place I live and the relationship between Man and Dog. I have seen many times where people intentionally drive off the road to kill a stray dog. We have so many strays here that it is really unbelievable. We do have a program here called "Proud Paws" which is a free spay and neuter program. Yes, some of the people who own their dogs actually allow them to not have puppies, but that doesn't even compare to the other percent of those dogs that don't have owners and their owners don't want them "fixed".

I ask you Mr. Millan to give me some reference or If you can come to the Bahamas for maybe a month. Create some seminars and teach people here that animals ARE NOT road kill. I am sure you would know how much this saddens me.

This is just a suggestion and I still thank you so much for all that you have done in the United States of America. Please, don't ever EVER stop doing what your doing.

Thank you so much,
Jessica Malone

Breaking in a New Dog House Dilemma
We are the proud owneres of a Chocolate Lab/Hungarian Visladog. We have had her for five wonderful years. Well, she has had her dog house for that long. We purchased a wonderful new house for her just yesterday and she will not get in it. We placed her dog mat in it, even threw in a wiener, her chewable dog bone, etc. She refuses to enter it. No other animal has been in it since we purchased new out of the carton. We are expected to have arctic weather & we don't want her to sleep out of her house eventhough she is protected by her kennel. It's frigid cold weather out there! What can we do? Does anyone out there have any ideas. I sure would like to have my doggie enjoy her new abode!

Some say dogs have a vocabulary. If I am just sitting and she is resting at my feet and I say "STICK!" she(Tippet) springs up post haste with that indomitable labrador alertness and is all ready to go outside for retrieving fun. Other provocative terms stimulate her with exhibition of various emotions, even a droopy countenance when I say, " I'll be Back". I estimate about 15 recognizable responses to words she has attuned to.

I have been watching the show for quite a while. We lost our Lhasa apso last year after 16 years of pleasure with him. WE finally decided to get another dog and we got a puppy, Cavalier King Charles. Yes, we do talk to the puppy, but our puppy is smarter than we are. Cesar doesn't do much with puppies, but maybe someone has an idea about how to do this.

We have been teaching her to come using a treat and saying, "Come Abby.' She thinks as soon as she sees the treat she is playing the Come Abby game and runs back and forth between us trying to see who will call her next. She flies from one of us to the other at a million miles an hour. She laso sat half way between us no matter how far apart we get so she can get there quicker.

Tomorrow, though when she sees something interesting, she'll go back to our having to call her over and over. She's 3 months old which may be the problem, but she sure has fun. WE want her to be safe and to mind. How can we get her to ceom without it being a game?

I love Cesar!! I train horses and would have loved to see Cesar work with the horses. I have seen and heard so many things on Cesars show that you can use towards horses also. I saw on one show that Cesar was interested in trying that too when he was trying his hand at lounging the horse. Too Cool!! I wish they would have showed it. Horses are very herdy animals and need an alpha too. With out one they are a mess , just like a dog. if they do not have one they are very unhappy, or they try to be the dominate one. With horses it's even worse if you don't show them you are the alpha. They are big and can hurt you.
I accidently found Dog Whisper as I watched tv one night late. :) It's my favorite show. I Loved Steve Erwin, :( God had to take Steve, So I guess he gave us Cesar. :)

Hey Cesar, we love your show and you've helped us to help our dogs to stop their behavior. One won't stop licking the couch but were working on it.

Thanks Cesar! We "rescued" two older Great Pyrenees (at different times). When Gus came to us, he had just been neutered and was definately feeling like Alpha Dog. We learned so much, from both the rescue org and TDW. Boot Camp really did the trick with Gus. Me and my husband are both now the Alpha, and he's the greatest, gentlest dog we could have ever asked for. Exercize, disipline, affection- my manta!! Thanks again!

Ceaser,
Hi I'm sending this message to see if you could help us train our puppy (Pomeranian toy)to use the puppy pads when he needs to go. Every time we try he gets stubborn and runs away from us. Lately all we can do is put him in the laundry room and tape down his pads and once in a while he will use it and most of the time he doesn't.

P.S. Please help us

I have a beagle that has dug 4 holes in my wall!!! I'm sure it is because it is during the winter months and she can't excersise as much as in the summer. It is hard to get out because of all of the snow which makes it hard to go for walks!! I would let her out to run but she heads straight for the road!!! I feel that I am fialing my dog by not giving her what she needs!! When some of the snow melts I do have every intention to get out with her and walk!!! But I just find her behavior wearing thin on my patients!!! I am new to watching Cesar and he is really good at what he does!!! I hope that with the nice weather coming my dogs behavior will change and I wont feel like such a failur!

Leah from Canada hoping her beagle gets better with time and my dog rearing skills improve!!!! If anyone has insight it would be great to hear. I need help and unfortunatly Ceaser doesn't come to Canada!

I LOVE YOUR SHOW. I THINK THAT IT IS VERY HELPFULL. I JUST WISH MY FIANCE (WHOM LIVES WITH ME) COULD SEE YOU IN ACTION. WE HAVE A MALE BOXER PUP, HARLEY 8 MONTHS OLD AND I TRY TO TEACH HARLEY THE WAY I HAVE SEEN YOU WITH DOGS, BUT MY FIANCE TOM SAYS THAT YOU HAVE TO TREAT HIM LIKE A LITTLE KID AND THAT HE DON'T UNDERSTAND THINGS YET AND KNOW RIGHT FROM WRONG.BUT I TOLD TOM HE DOES AND HE SHOULD UNDERSTAND AND KNOW RIGHT FROM WRONG NOW. EVEN BEFORE NOW. I AM WAISTING MY TIME AND EFFERTS TRYING TO TEACH HARLEY THINGS THAT TOM LETS HIM GETS AWAY WITH, LIKE JUMPING UP ON PEOPLE. TOM SAYS THAT HE JUST DOES THAT WHEN HE WANTS TO PLAY, BUT IM NOT PLAYING. ALSO HE REBELLS WHEN WE BOTH ARE GONE.WHEN HE CHEWS UP OR TARES UP THINGS I TELL HIM BAD AND AND CRACK HIS BUT. TOM SAYS THAT WE ARE ON OPPOSITE SIDES WHEN IT COMES TO CORRECTING HARLEY AND THAT SINCE HARLEY IS JUST LIKE A LITTLE KID WE NEED TO TREAT IT AS SUCH AND TALK TO HARLEY AND TELL HIM WHAT HE IS DOING WRONG. HE WANTS ME TO TALK TO A DOG LIKE A KID. HARLEY LIKES TOM MORE BECAUSE TOM DONT CORRECT HIM LIKE I DO. IM LOOSING A BATTLE AND WISH I COULD GET SOME HELP FROM YOU. THANKS ALOT. WHAT AM TO DO? THANKS FOR TIME AND I LOVE YOUR SHOWS JUST WISH I COULD GET THEM AGAIN. THANK CHAR

dear cesar,

l have a beautiful bassetoodle. she is almost 2 years old. Daisy Mae as a puppy and taking her out on the leash was no problem. she never barked at anything. But we have 2 other dogs and so we decided to fence the yard in so they could have more room. And now the trouble beings. she barks at EVERYTHING!!!!!!!! the neighbors have come to know her by name because we are always telling her to be quiet. So when she does this she also gets our other dogs barking too. she is a very loving dog indoors, but a FREAK outside. we have tried to leash her again, bark collars, you name it we have tried it. l hope there is a solution to this problem. we would love to be able to spend time on our porch with all the dogs but we have to spend most of it trying to stop her barking or getting her inside away from what she feels she needs to bark at.

thanks for listening
Anna

Hey Ceasar! I love your work! You are so good at it!

I Do have 2 dogs myself and One of them is a 4ish year old mix. She is a great dog! We got her from a shelter after she was brought up from a kill shelter in Virginia. She really is a great dog... Except for when she is around other dogs. Especially other female dogs. She gets on High alert and gets to be pretty aggressive. It doesn't make anyone in my family very comfy. So, I was hoping you would have some tips?! She is really a good dog when she wants to be, but other than that she makes other people nervous. We need your help! Thanks a whole Bunch Ceasar!!

Keep Up the GREAT work!

Help, Help!

I have four toy dogs. 2 males 2 females. I have a doggie door which they use and then the 2 male dogs come in and pee I don't have any carpet or throw rugs for that reason. My house smells of pee. I am so embarresed I don't invite any one over for that reason. The youngest female dog pees on the couch. I clean and clean. I get on my hands and knees to clean. I use vinager, pine sol, stuff I boy at the pet store. I leave them out during the day, but as soon as they come into the house they pee.I crate them at night. The male dogs will pee in front of the crate. They will not pee in the crate. I am ready to give up but I love my dogs. also one other thing when I allow them on the bed one will pee on the bed.
