Nightmare in Central Park

How do you know if you are the wrong person for your dog?

Too many times in my work, I come across a case in which despite best intentions, the match between the dog and its human just doesn’t fit. This is why I always suggest that people look at the energy level of the dog before choosing a breed. Never adopt a dog whose energy level is higher than yours.

Researching the breed and understanding the responsibility involved in owning a dog is most important. I have never seen a dog-human relationship go well when it’s an “impulse buy.”

Remember, a dog realizes how much knowledge you have from day one and if you’re not up for the job, your new pet will know. You’ll soon create a fight, flight, or avoidance instinct in your dog and he won't follow a leader with unstable energy.

I just watched Curly and Baxter's stories and I am appauled at Baxter's owner. She has absolutely NO business adopting any dogs whatsoever and should stick to worrying about her own issues...which seem to be plentiful based on that tiny snapshot into her obviously dysfunctional life! It broke my heart to see zero emotion on her face when she left her dog at Cesar's and replaced him with a new one named Ricky. I was so happy when Baxter learned to be one with the pack...which occurred as soon as she left! However...guess what??? After a little while, she found something wrong with Ricky (an absolute sweetheart!) and returned him as well...then demanded Baxter back...and FINALLY, GAVE BAXTER UP AGAIN!!!! Then, went out and got yet another dog. Unbelievable, right? What an f-ing jerk!

National Geographic Channel: I LOVE Dog Whisperer (all the episodes are great). All other dog owners I've talked to also watches this show...and love it!!! I think its because (all animal lovers) can relate to Ceasars love for dogs and we all want to be like ceasar with the calmnest and pure sensitivity that all the dogs pick up on whenever ceasar comes to help...even dogs that are not even mean to be in the program (ex. central part episode w/curly - the other aggressive dog -the akita took to ceasar like clockwork....) and ceasar wasn't even there to help that akita but he taught the akita's owners and the akita how to behave tooo. BOY OH BOY...THIS SHOW.... DOG WHISPERER IS A KEEPER...A WINNER...PLEASE SHOW MORE EPISODES AND AT MORE AVAILABLE TIMES...NOT JUST THE WEEK DURING WORK HOURS...(WE CAN'T WATCH THE SHOW AT WORK) PLEASE MAKE IT MORE ACCESSIBLE DURING THE EVENING HOURS... Everyone I've talk to wants to see more episodes and we all said ..we'd keep the National Geographic channel (chl 162) on 24 hrs....You really have great programs in addition to the Dog Whisperer... We love animals, all kinds... THANK YOU NAT GEO..AND PLEASE FORWARD THIS EMAIL TO CEASAR...I'm sure he'd like to know he is so appreciated and loved by viewers...because we finally have someone to relate to on how to train and how to live with our dogs....

Thank you ceasar......
From Renee James

We love you Ceasar Milan...We love Dog Whisperer....Please play more shows at afternoon and evening or even late night hours...but please just play more episodes of Dog Whisperer....

New York City has plenty of dogs...everywhere...we welcome this show...we will watch this show 24hrs a day..if given the option...

NYC WANTS MORE DOG WHISPERER - WITH CEASAR MILAN !!!!!

I am a Dog Whisperer addict. I DVR this show so I never miss an episode. I have been telling everyone I know to watch it. I absolutely love dogs and Ceasar Milan is so entertaining. Keep these episodes coming. Come to Tenn

The absolutely ironic element of this, is that when we DO get in over our heads because we do not see the potential challenges or problems which will emerge once they get in our home environment, is that we can USE the basic techniques of Cesar's way to mend OUR ways to be more effective for the challenges awaiting us. I am NOT a professional trainer, and yet I have been brought many dogs by rescues that they were not able to help because they didnt understand the basic pieces it would take to change the behavior! Each time, the fix was realtively simply, only needing consistency by me (and my family - the greater challenge!

I think Lindsey is being a bit harsh and judgmental on Baxter's (former) owner. In the little snippet we saw on the show, we should not rush to make assumptions about a person. Maybe she didn't show any sadness on her face because she knew Baxter was going to go with Cesar, who would give him a good, stable home and eventually find a suitable new owner for him. As far as getting a new dog, well let's give her the benefit of the doubt that the new dog will fit with her and she won't screw it up. As far as name-calling, that's just not necessary, eh? Let's keep it civil. After all, she probably just needs a little nip on the back of the neck by the pack leader to straighten her out! (joke, kids, just a joke!) ;)

Hello there... does anyone know what breed or mix of breeds Baxter is? ... I live in Spain and have a dog I found abandoned in the Sierra Nevada in Granada. Seriously she could be his sister... she is identical in looks...and i mean exactly the same, even in her expressions and manerisms. She is also the most peaceful gentle almost "zen" dog I have ever come across!!
If anyone out there has any idea... it would be marvelous to know as no one here has a clue!
