Wicked Dog
Some dogs are more naturally outgoing than others, but if your dog is so shy that it interferes with his or her normal activities, then it’s a problem. Shy dogs lack self-esteem and can jeopardize the stability and wellness of the group. Insecurity, tension, and anxiety have no place in a pack and the pack leader needs to address the issue right away.
The best way to deal with a shy dog is to gradually and safely expose the dog to the source of his insecurity. This ultimately will build confidence in the dog and allow him to remain a calm, functioning member of the pack.

Okay, what do you do if a dog is afraid of EVERYTHING! The dog is even afraid of it's own family! the dog is so afraid of everything, that no treat could convince it to come out of it's shell!
We have at least 9 chihuahua's that have been raised in our family, but none of us have ever seen anything like Sugar Bee. We have tried everything! She is just a nevous wreck! My mother also has another chi & a weenie dog. . . all were raised since they were adpoted as puppies & grew up to be loving normal dogs. This dog has never been able to bond with even my mother, her owner. I know that this might sound ridiculous, but we have come to the conclusion that she is autistic. . . if that is even possible in a dog. if anyone has any suggestions. . . We just want her to enjoy life and not be scared anymore. We are at a loss.
Oh, and she is not wicked. . . just afraid.
We have a 20 month old chocolate lab named Tucker who when he was 16 months old had to have surgery to correct his elbow dsyplasia. Ever since his recovery when he was not allowed to play with other dogs he has become timid around new dogs. This was never an issue prior to the surgery. We are now slowly introducing him to environments where he meets new dogs and it is getting better but it is slow progress. My husband and I can't wait for the day when we have our social dog back.
