Investigating Alongside Cesar
Kim Sill
Investigator, Last Chance For Animals
Going to a puppy mill was initially a very daunting and life changing event for me.That alone made last year one of those "years" in my life that would never be forgotten. Add to that Cesar Millan helping me realize that "I" have been the biggest problem in my pack of rescue dogs. Next add getting to be a part of the team that took Cesar to a puppy mill.
While standing in the windy Antelope Valley Cesar suggested that I take pet shop owners to puppy mills and to shelters. The cameras were following him, the police were on their way to remove us, the sand was blasting our faces and in the distance you could hear the rest of the crew screaming for us to pack up and leave. We were running to get in my truck, as he said, "you have to do that. Show them what they are contributing to." In that moment I felt as if nothing else was happening. I was getting some great help from a great hero of mine. Then as I got into the truck I hit my head. Cesar didn't laugh, he asked if I was okay? I was, but I was also terribly embarrassed.
Cesar was no nonsense. He wasted no time, he acted in the moment, and was aware of everything going on around him. But still he was able to give me some really good advice.
I have cherished that time with him and have taken all of his sage words and put them into action.
The help he gave me with my own pack of dogs has made me be able to bring in foster dogs that need a place to get rehabilitated until I find them a forever home.
Of course first there was Lovey, the Yorkie missing a foot. Sophie the biter, then Tobey the Chihuahua that never got adopted at a pet store, Cooper the Bassett Hound, Yogi the Anatolian shepard, Ginger and Barry the red listed shelter ShitZu's, and Little Bit the Yorkie that now lives with Sharon Osbourne. Currently I am fostering a beautiful Pomerian mix with a broken leg whose name is Foxy. He was deemed highly aggressive and on his way to be euthanized when I took him. My pack doesn't always agree with the choices I bring home but it keeps me on my toes. My wonderful dogs like that I discipline them. I now "can" discipline them thanks to Cesar! My dogs like me being a leader. I can see in their eyes that they trust what I am doing. On the other hand I am not quite sure if my husband feels the same way.
Joel has been falling in love with every dog I bring home. He has a rough time letting them go. I thought if I took him along for the home checks that he would be better. Cesar I may need some more help, how do we get my husband to follow the pack leader?

Right on to anyone who supports the movement against puppy mills. I have been an advocate for LCA for over 17 years and worked along with Chris in several situations many of which were puppy mills in Lancaster, PA.
I look forward to this show's impact.

Chris DeRose was the inspiration that turned my sister and I into proactive animal activists. DeRose is the pioneer of all animal abuse investigations and single handedly exposed puppy mills, bringing them to the forefront of the media. DeRose merging with Cesar, "The Dog Whisperer", was the greatest "dream team" ever made. Cesar has "saved" more dogs that were "red listed", while other high profile animal organizations would rather kill these "unadoptable" dogs that were never given a chance.
Chris teaches us to adopt rather than shop for dogs (shopping supports puppy mills), while Cesar teaches people that anyone can "balance and handle" any dog, so they are socialized and adoptable, (calm submissive). With these two as a team, there will be no need for shelters or rescues for abandoned animals. We can start by putting this "dream team" into every educational curriculum and insitution.
Long live this K9 Dream Team,
Dog Whisperer and LCA!!!
What a GREAT TEAM! I'm DEFINITELY watching and TiVo'ing the NatGeo/LCA program. Keep up the great work, Chris & Cesar. Things DO change.
i got a rescue puppy from a puppy mill and she does not like to be around humans and it is because they left her in a kennel with a bunch of other dogs and didn't take them out to play with them..
Loved this honest non-sugar coated look into puppy mills.
Ceasar and Chris make a stellar team and I am hoping this will be the first of many expose's of this type to come. Hope this will turn heads, make an impact and help add punch to...
Adopt Don't Shop!! If you buy from pet stores you are helping to support this misery!!
I have seen puppy mill investigation at news program focused on Lancaster,PA (I think?) and I watched this episode tonight and, it is really sad to know there are places like this exists.
I hope many more people notice about puppy mills and hope these news/episode can raise more awareness on this issue.

This was so moving to see what Cesar was able to do with the dogs Kim and LCA rescued. I would LOVE to see more shows like this! We all loved it here... Amazing what they've done and thanks Nat Geo and DW for giving them the attention they deserve!
A heartbreaking yet truly hopeful story. What a great idea for Cesar to team up with LCA to do this kind of investigative and healing work! This show was so significant in terms of creating more widespread awareness about puppy mills. Moreover, it gave new meaning to Cesar's work. I would love to see more shows like this where Cesar and LCA tackle some other animal abuse/animal rights issues in order to bring these issues to greater public awareness and to initiate real change and ultimate salvation.
Having spent 2.5 years working for Cesar Millan at his Dog Psychology Center, I feel blessed to have the training knowledge to assist in the training and rehabilitation of these dogs. This inside look at the horrors of puppy mills has been an eye opening experience not only for myself but for all involved, especially the viewers who have a chance to see that these puppy mill dogs are not disposable, they are lives and we all need to be on board to assist in shutting down these horrifying places once and for all. I am happy to be on board with you Kim and Chris as well as all of the others who have put so much blood, sweat and tears into this. Truly you are an inspiration to all and I hope to continue to assist you in the training and rehabilitation of the dogs that are saved each and every day.

I have been an avid follower of Chris Derose for well over a decade, the man is a true Hero! I was so relieved to see him get on Cesar Millan "Dog Whisperer" Show which has a large fan base, this episode brings much needed attention to what goes on behind the scenes of puppy mills. Amongst many others, I would love to see Chris Derose doing his own show on NatGeo allowing him to bring vital information to the mainstream.
Thank you

I love Cesar and his show and I love Chris Derose they're both great hero's. keep up the great work. The only thing I do not like is when you promote Iams. Iamscruelty.com Check it out. They kill cats and dog with cruel experiments for money. Don't support them Cesar. You can get other sponsorships. Make the change and save lives boycott Iams!
Wow, what a great team. This should be done more often. Like that guy on Dateline who exposes the child pornography offenders in stings, they should keep doing puppy mill stings!
Thank you for this exposure of Puppy Mills, Why is this allowed? Please have more exposure of these criminal practices.
Chris Derose and Cesar did a great job, would like to see more of their work together.

Kim, Cesar, Chris, and the rest of LCA were an amazing team. I love that puppy mills are being exposed for what they are. It's awful that puppies and dogs are being euthanized in shelters every single day because people choose to purchase unfixed pets from pet stores and let them breed. I loved this show and look forward to more just like it as well as other LCA investigations. Hope everyone keeps up their great work!
