It really is kind of interesting how you find skinhead violence to be such a menacing threat to society. In reality I'm sure there are more acts of violence perpetrated by angy motorists then by skinheads on any level. That just wouldn't make as schocking of a documentary now would it.

Compared to the uncontrolable violence inflicted on our communities by non-whites on a daily basis, along with the music promoting their criminal culture: rap music, it's as if your trying to create an illusion of us as some sort of a growing threat. It really is quite phoney, perhaps you'd of done better to investigate the most violent and criminal aspects of our society: non-whites.

I don't think this is very important to discuss all this ,one of my friends who works with Law Enforcement Department in Philadelphia area told me some of this guys that are here as a White Nationalist Skinheads (Keith Carney i believe) work with the police back to back as an informant...

I have a suggestion for the contributors and editors of National Geographic, mostly a first-rate periodical: How about writing an article based on the statistical reality of interracial violence, rather than one based on unfounded, politically-biased anxieties of trouble-making groups like the ADL? I can't even remember the last time (if ever there was a first time) I saw a group of White Power advocates hanging around, making life dangerous for nonwhites. If you want me to relate every time in my life when I've seen nonwhites accosting, stealing from, cursing, or otherwise abusing white people, there isn't enough space in this comment box. Fewer people today are fooled by the rhetoric and cliches about white "racists" when they clash so completely with the reality we all experience on a daily basis.

Interesting to see the comments by defensive white people who just don't get it. You're irrational concerns of black on white violence (you are more likely to be attacked by a white person: crime is intra-racial more than inter-racial) is used to DEFEND the attack on innocent minorities. Your mentality is, "Well, some black guy did something bad so go attack some random black person, because they are all the same." How idiotic.

Racism is still a real problem in America and hate crimes are a form of terrorism. Whether it's a noose in a tree or a violent attack, these acts are meant to cause emotional trauma to large groups of people (just like 9/11 did to Americans). They are not the same as street crime.

I would challenge the defensive whites who have posted here and will post after this show airs to open their hearts. Practice empathy. Talk to someone who is an ethnic or sexual minority about thier experiences. Talk TO them, not FOR them. Just listen. I am wondering if the makers of this documentary will bother to inform the viewers about real racial crime statistics in America. Will this documentary discuss the incredibly high crime rate of Blacks in relation to their population percentage?

Dnice, practically every single ethnic group has enslaved another people or mistreated them at some point in time. To single out "whites" serves its purpose, but it is a manipulative purpose, and I am sure you know this. Even in regards to the African slave trade, you should know that there were MANY peoples involved (Jews and even the Africans themselves). Furthermore, simply because someone's skin color is white does not mean their ancestors owned slaves.

As for zero tolerance of other races, I guess you don't know much about the hierarchies-of-being in South America (Peruvians at the bottom) or especially within the Arab world. But on top of that, what race has really tolerated the other in its own land? If you honestly believe any race has, you are only kidding yourself. Part of loving one's own is protecting one's own, so this sort of behavior is not the white exception you try to portray it as, but a natural defense to be expected of all peoples.

Props to Trad Skins!! I was in the scene in the SE during the mid-80's, and the skins I knew had Bob Marley posters on their walls. It was only late in the 80's that racist scum started showing up and polluting the scene. Unfortunatly some felt like these turds from bigger scenes needed to be impressed, and a few followed along. The local paper even interviewed some guys, including a BLACK Skinhead- he made a joke when asked about the racism factor, told the reporter he "burned crosses". Yep, they included the quote in the story- but left out the fact that it was made by a black kid. WTF?!

I heard about the documentary a day late so I can't comment on the veracity or content of the film.
But what I feel is that it is very natural, at our most basic level to be suspicious and hostile to those who are a different from different racial or ethnic groups.
There have been studies of facial recognition and responses done where people tend to select faces similar to their own as someone "friendly" or "trustworthy".
We are of the animal kingdom and we still have those visceral responses to someone outside our tribe...yet we are also creatures blessed with reason and can and should be able to overcome SOME of our instinctive reactions. However, we really need to acknowlege that those instincts reside in us and have a primal value to our survival.
Hatred of a person based SOLEY on their race IS Racism. But acknowledging differences is not. Honoring bloodlines is not. Disliking the idea of racial homegenization is not either.

Basically what I would like to see happen is a documentary on Traditional Skinheads (the ONLY skinheads as far as I'm concerned).

It is very sad that when the decision was made to do a documentary on skinheads you decided to focus only on the smallest sub sect of a small underground culture. Skinheads are a very small sub culture in the US to begin with and racist skins are a tiny sub group of that. This documentary does nothing more than spread the myth that skinheads are a bunch a racists trying to take over the country. It is the same tactics various TV media outlets have been using since the 1980s.

Hello, I have a solution/challenge for National Geographic!! I am 34 years old and have been a skinhead since probably 86-87 and have lots of skinhead friends all over the world that are younger than me all the way up to my parents age!! My challenge to N. G. is how about doing a show on the actual real subculture that started in the earlier part of the 1960's? I think your channel is awesome! I can't believe how many people are commenting as if this isn't a big deal. You seem to be filled with such animosity, I don’t understand why. True enough there are those minorities out there whom are very vile and very vicious making this world that much harder to bear, but there are a lot of us (if not most of us) that are just the opposite. I know this because I deal with all types of people in my line of work and most of them are decent. Most of them want the same thing; to live in a peaceful world where they can be happy and raise their children in a safe and happy environment away from pedophiles, rapists, child murderers, drug dealers and gang bangers.
Generally speaking, we all harbor the same fears. We all carry the weight of the world on our shoulders. We all go through life knowing (though perhaps not harping on it) that any day our lives could be snuffed out prematurely over some BS. Speaking from a woman’s point of view, it can sometimes be really scary for us to live in this world, a world that has become increasingly hostile towards women. But we do our best to go on with our lives without holding on to bitterness and resentment towards all men.
I am a very nice person, I am educated, very law abiding and a hard worker (currently working two jobs while pursuing a music career on the side.) I don’t smoke, I don’t drink and I have NEVER done drugs (marijuana included.) All that being said…you still see me as a bad person. You would still embrace all of the Ted Bundy’s and Charles Manson’s of the world before even thinking about embracing one of me. Of course I know that if you took the time to get to know me, you would enjoy hanging out with me.
Did you know that if you lived to be 60 yrs old you would have only lived about 21,915 days? Do you realize how short that time is? Do you realize that if you were to receive 1 dollar a day it wouldn’t even equal up to the average person’s yearly salary? That is not a lot of time. Life is too short to hold on to that bitterness you seem to harbor. Wouldn’t your time be better spent focusing on what you could do to make things better for your community...your country…your planet...as opposed to focusing on how you can continue this ridiculous cycle of hatred that has been going on for centuries?

I've got to say, I've never seen a group of so many ignorant people who claim to know what they are talking about as I've seen on "American skinheads" today.

In the beginning of the program, a brief history of where "American Skinheads" got their style from is mentioned (1960's British working class) true but I guess it was not as interesting to mention that these racists stole the title skinhead from the "British working class" Is it too much trouble to mention that real skinheads came from British youth interested in Jamaican music and working class ethics? That this movement was started because of the Jamaican immigrants and so really to call yourself a skinhead and to be white power is PURE IGNORANCE. This movement did not stop in the 60's there are still millions of skinheads all over the world that are anti-racist into ska, soul, scooters, football and have strong working class values and this scene has NOTHING to do with the color of their skin.

But the Internet has developed largely in part due to engineers and computer programmers from Middle Eastern and Asian backgrounds working in companies in Silicon Valley to further enhance it. I wish NG would actually get a move on and put this DVD up for sale on the shop site. I'd like to show it to my students (I teach a college class on race.) NG has some really great programs but they can be IMPOSSIBLE to find (our libraries don't have most of them either.

I just want to point out the fact that the people at national geographic are only promoting this misconception of skinhead culture. Although you mention the existence of non-racist skinheads, you have decided to "narrow the focus" unto only racists, and you don't appear to have any follow-up articles on the Trojan skins or SHARPS. It may not be as interesting on the surface to do a piece on the traditional skinheads, you may find that we are full of culture and belief's that go to the core of most people. We have a rich history that, to me, is more interesting than the whole white power cliche article. I support the working class, despite color, race, or even political belief (WP or SHARP). In my eyes, if you can put those politics second, and avoid preaching, than and only than, are you a true skinhead.

In my case, I do not regret my actions, but, in hindsight, I can
see how I had achieved more for my blood and people by being
a Skinhead working-man, on the streets, policing my neighborhood
against minorities, druggies and perverts. I, also, accomplished
more by passing out literature and recruiting school-kids. But,
that is the past. Hopefully, one day, maybe soon, I can get out
of prison and stay legal. I am working on it and will keep everyone

you should do a documentary on non racist skinheads since they were around first and they are still the majority within the skinhead subculture, plus the fact that the liberal beeding heart media only shows racist skins all the time when true skinheads dont even give boneheads the title of skinhead since they just stole a style of dress. it would just be nice if the public was educated on it instead of having untruths pushed down their throats even more... dont be as ignorant as those whom you interview...

I don't understand why people are being so racist on here.I'm white and know a lot of people from different racial backgrounds.I haven't had any problems with most of them.Many black guys in my school date white girls or Asian girls and there's nothing wrong with that.One of my best friends is Hispanic,and she's super cool and amazing.Personally,I wish my school was more diverse because diversity is cool.Why are you hating on immigrants(LEGAL ones)?Didn't our ancestors come from other countries,which makes us practically immigrants too?

i just commented this blog, but i decided to read all the comments... well most of them.

&& everyone says the exact same thing.
the whole point of the documentary is to spread to the world what the skinhead groups are like.
i didn't even think these groups still exsisted today because well it's 2008 && you would think that everyone would realize how stupid it is.
i understand the stuff about how white people are loosing jobs && how mexicans are crossing the borders, but why is it that whites are superior to everyone else?
that makes no sense && like it or not is racist.

the documentary spoke to real member of skinhead groups && societies. if you're a skinhead && you feel you were not honestly portrayed fairly... you should've volunteered to be in the film.

if i, a sixteen year old, see how wrong this could be, that in our society, people still show some racism and hate towards any group that isn't white && other people can't.... well that's pretty screwed up.

although we're all entitled to our opinions, i personally don't think that these groups are correct and that they are based on uncircumstantial, fake idealistic mentalities.

that's my opinion, if i'm wrong, okay.

I would like to say... I know Martin Cox, and was very proud of him on this documentary. He spoke truth. I am soon going to be in my own documentary, hopefully everyone will watch and understand us whites on a deeper level. I discussed more of the philosophy than the plan...

I once was a WP(white pride) skin, so I have nothing bad nor good to say about this series. I didn't leave the movement because I thought they were corrupting me, but because life goes on, and people grow.
The reason I am posting this is to clear up some information that is wrong...

First off, Yes, Randy did die, but not on location of the attack that took place. He passed away over a week later in ICU in a Seattle local hospital from his attack. Beaten and kicked with a baseball bat, but not quit to death. yes, they were doing it for the girl to get her laces, but the reason they attacked him, was due to hating "drugies", which they claimed he admitted to being on crack( not saying this gives them any more right).

Also, This "Tacoma skinhead movement club" never existed. It was a name the Tacoma police gave 3 kids. In which only one of them, other local skins would have considered to be a fellow skin. Some sites say he was the leader of the Washington state chapter of Volksfront, not true.
You may be asking, how does she really know all of this...? Well, I was present at the arrest of one(from my car) and also was present during a raid the Police did on my home in which the detective informed me of Randy's death which happened that morning. Also, the local news did a story on the event. They gave names of all involved, and date of which Randy passed. So, it is locally known that the information about Randy's death given here, is incorrect."On March 23, Pierce County prosecutors say, four white supremacists ran into Townsend on the railroad tracks under the East 26th Street bridge, not far from the makeshift camp he called home.... Townsend, 42, died at Harbor-view Medical Center in Seattle on April 12." -Stacey Mulick
If you were to look up information, some of it is still incorrect. Even most of the news tried to claim he died on site, but records do show he died at that hospital, not at the scene of the crime.

I am here to say that I am a "non-white" Canadian and the skinhead movement is on the rise here in Toronto. I see some skinhead activity targeting people who are doing some things that they shouldn't be doing. There is an alarming rise of brutal home invasions and shootings here not to mention rapes and other horrible acts against our "fellow man". I have been though many hardships and have learned how to survive the hard way. When I leave my home I am armed and ready for battle. The odd thing is I do hang around with a select few skinhead friends or "comrades". They are not white power or white supremacist but traditional skinheads or Irish skinheads but also have racist values. I also have racist beliefs and have every right to.

I see so many immigrants invading this country and spreading disease, poverty, drugs, prostitution, and gangsterism. It is sickening and I have teamed up with my "comrades" for the race war. I have been beaten brutally and bludgeoned by an African American, Native American, and White person. I now have been through the ranks of violence and can fight back with sheer aggression and insane brutality IF NEEDED. I have installed some family members with these racial values who thought they were wrong but after witnessing what is happening in OUR country they agree. If people are doing what they are supposed to be doing and minding their own business chances are they will not be caught in "the line of fire". I am not in favor of white supremacy and when I gather with my radical comrades we are stronger and united and our family members are much "safer".
