New Trailer - Aftermath: Population Zero

Last month I passed along the trailer page for Six Degrees Could Change the World and by the looks of it many of you checked it out. I thought that I would pass along the next of the films that I am looking forward to called Aftermath: Population Zero.

The film chronicles what would happen to the earth if the human race just vanished from existence and all that we built remained. The film essentially is a timeline of how long all of the skyscrapers, nuclear power plants, and community structures last if abandoned? How would wild and domestic animals fare without us? Aftermath: Population Zero gives us a glimpse to see the impact of human beings by seeing how Earth would adapt without us.

What do you think would happen?

Do you believe that NGC will ever move away from hysterical programming and careless comments about "global warming"? Think about it, the majority of American scientists do not agree with the sky is falling position that you have taken. Yet you continue with this tactic without including any of the research and documentation from the "other side". Disgraceful!

Sometimes, those of us who have an inkling of how the earth is affected by man's abyssmal stewardship of this planet, have to resort to scare tactics to get some us to acknowledge the issues that are presenting themselves so that we can change our ways to promote the health of this place we live. I don't like it that there are those who would be so cavalier about very real problems, such as global warming. I have known for some years now, that something wasn't quite right with the our climate. Now, I have a name to call the problem.

Except there's nothing we can do about it. According to scientists who DO believe in global warming, the facts point that we can't hault what we have done (very little, in fact)... so if the world is warming... stopping emissions isn't going to stop global warming. It's just going to get us off oil.

Kerry - do you ever believe you'll stop repeating crap you hear on Fox news? I mean damn - this post has nothing to do about global warming - the show it refers to is about what happens if humans disappear, with other species alive, essentially the opposite of what will happen with global warming.

This show looks great though, oddly interesting in some morbid, macabre way.

There's not two sides of every story. Some things are black and white, right and wrong. Global warming exsists and the only debate should be how to fix it, not deny its not happening.

Does anyone know WHEN it will be on? I can't seem to find any dates.

Seems to me that the point of the movie is that we are short-timers and that a few thousand measly years after we are gone, there won't even hardly be any sign that we were here at all.

Dont know where global warming came into this...LOL
But I saw the trailer for this show on TV and it said something about March 9th...so we will just have to wait because the online TV guide does not go that far yet.

If this special is like "Life After People" it has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH GLOBAL WARMING. IT DOES NOT DISCUSS HOW MANKIND ENDED. It only shows what would happen to what we have built.

This looks like an interesting show. It also looks like a blatant ripoff off of History Channel's "Life After People" which was a blatant ripoff of Alan Weisman's book, "The World Without Us". Hopefully NG will at least give him some credit where History Channel didn't. As anxious as I am to see this show, it amazes me that these two networks would do a show almost exactly the same so close together. This one sounds like it runs on the same premise too. People just disappear one day, instantly. No explanation is given. We're just gone, now what happens to our world. Interesting premise I guess, just totally unrealistic. Oh well, we'll see in March I guess. "Life After People" wasn't bad but it wasn't great either. Here's hoping NG does a little bit better job with the material.

This look awsome! I was actually just about to start looking up some information about what would happen if our cities were deserted.

Definately keeping tabs on this show.

Aftermath: Population Zero will be on March 9

Is this taken from "The world Without Us" by Alan Weisman? The trailer seems like it was taken directly from the book.

i will be out of the us when aftermath population zero is televised, i want to set to record, i know on the east coast it starts at 8 p.m. please tell me the length of the telecast t/y artie

Thank you all for the enthusiasm. It really is going to be a fun/interesting show. To answer Artie's question the show is two hours long so you can set your DVR/Tivo from 8p to 10p et/pt.

Thanks!

I have been interested in this topic for a long time. Ever since I saw abandoned towns and whole neighborhoods cut off by on-coming super highways. I saw in the teaser that NGC has mentioned the loss of all the dairy cows ... missed by History Channel's show. NGC's "Aftermath ..." looks like, with a minor title change, could incorporate the Evangelical's view of the "Rapture". That's not me but I saw it with all the cars and planes and trains crashing. I sort of agree with the people protesting all the doom and gloom shows but I am ill and house-bound so I don't really care. I want to make it until at least 21 December 2012. Reminds me of the guy who wore a sign telling us the world would end on New Year's Eve, 1962 ... he was right ... he was run over by a truck that night. The crass TV news people featured his sign ... with a truck tire track on it. These shows are interesting mind exercises, though. Better than the constant flood of Big Foot, Bermuda Triangle, UFO, Stonehenge, Pyramid, Atlantis, gangs, and big house shows.
When will this show (Aftermath: ...) be available on DVD?

Out here in Albuquerque, just north of the city limit is a huge enclosure for the American Bison herd belonging to the Sandia Pueblo Indians. I figure they wouldn't take too long breaking out of there so we would have a buffalo herd starting to regenerate their former numbers. And ... before anyone pounces ... my wife and I are of Cherokee descent and we call our People "Indians". We can do that if we want to.

I can't wait to see another good documentary NG has dished out for us. I am glad they are aiming towards other things besides global warming. Yes, we know what is going on around us.

If people are so worried about what ''global warming'' is ''doing to the planet'', why are they wasting millions of dollars making documentaries telling us about it instead of using money to actually do something about it? That puzzles me.

i think its scary, but the trailer was really cool!!!!!

I believe that only GOD know when time will end.It does seem the bible is being fullfilled.time is coming near as the people, earth, and our animals change.we are a growing population as well.

This documentary seems to be based on the book by Alan Weizman: The World Without Us. The book didn't mention anything about global warming, it was pure science (just like this documentary). If some people find objections to this perhaps they should be watching fox news and not national geographic.

This is totally insane!!!!!
IDk which is worse this or 6 degrees could change the world. I mean this is pretty bad and all but dagn. Besides i'll be dead by then "hpoefully" LOL.

This video was awesome. It makes us as humans realize how much of an impact we have on enviroment. This has nothing to do with global warming, but it does metion in the video that after 120 years since humans disappeared the earth starts its on healing process.

Ive dne a project on this topic, and it's really sad how our world could just crumble aprt like that... It's actually kind of scary!! I'm looking forward to seeing the show, yet I'm still not sure if I should watch it... :)

Please tell me if this is going to be on DVD or not. This program looks awesome!!!

What time does it come on in Hawaii. Sounds interesting. This is something I've wondered about for years.

You got this idea from the History Channel's Life After People special.

This is very serious

This seems like it will be interesting to me but I am a christian so I know that up until the "last days" people will still be here..up until the last war between good and evil.
Many civilizations in the past were, according to Geologists and Archeologists, "wiped out" suddenly or destroyed a little at a time..but still, some of the reamins stand. Wonder how many civilizations there really were? This considering how quickly this video portrays the "breaking down" of our communities would be.

This is interesting, I don't believe power would go out all over the country in just six hours A.H. though.

This program made me think about the movie "I am Legend" with Will Smith. several things were still in order for years in that movie.

Does anyone know who the narrator is?

Just finished watching the show - awesome! Thought the predictions were conservative (I have stood in the forest that took over a fort that was considered one of the defenses of the American way, 20 years after it ceased to exist, and I know nature recovers more quickly than the show indicates). Kept waiting for the prediction on the fall of the Great Wall of China, and didn't get it. When does it disappear?
Thanks.

Just starting it - this show looks fantastic.

Dee, it is incredible how fast nature takes back over - it's always funny to see just how soon vines take over and break through glass, etc

If Nat Geo got this idea from the History Channel the expanded it far beyond that! In a very good way. The History Channel show was a washed out comparison of what I saw last night. Ignore it! That is human nature with our egocentric ideals. From what I've read most scientist agree on global warming, but the debate comes in at whether mankind has caused it. Again with the egocentric thing! To the Christians talking about what will be...you don't KNOW anything except what other people wrote about the end of days very many years ago according to the mores of their time. If the 'greatest' species on earth has not interacted with their environment and caused changes I would be very surprised. All of the earth is made of up changes, interractions, adaptions, and diversity. We try to make it all a monoculture with our crops and lawns. Not going to work. Nat Geo did a fantastic job portraying the wonderful idea of humans out of the picture!

I watched both the Nat Geo show last night and HC's Life After People a few weeks ago. They both seemed identical. I don't get why humans disappear into thin air, yet we see the carcasses of cows being eaten by flies and dogs in the pastures. Why didn't they just realistically portray human carcasses laying around? How could we all just vanish? Why just us? Why do the animals stay behind, dead or not? There should be some explanation for this. If it were disease, there has to be bodies left behind, and an explanation that it affected every single person. At least throw in a mass UFO abduction scenario. Still, thought provoking, and probably meant to be more hypothetical. You have to suspend reality and ignore those pesky details in order to appreciate it.

I just have a small question that has been bothering me since last nights show.
How many year will it take for the pollution and global warming and green gases to be fully gone?

if you feel like commenting or messaging back that would be very appreciated.
Thank you.

All you people who are talking of the "wonderful world without humans", and those of you who would rather see us in the stone ages, get some self esteem. As possibly the only sentient creatures who could appreciate the world in whatever states it is in, we can have a bit more the cut. Not to say we should abuse that right, but don't start losing sleep because of our presence here. We are not some alien creature. We are part of earth too. We need to take of it, but don't need to get freaked out because some species of fly went extinct. Aftermath is an interesting show, if not incredibly left wing. Although a scientifically accurate (though biased) program, there is no need to endorse it's hate man first philosophy.

Bishop, You, and people like you dont KNOW anything, period. People are not attempting to make the world a monoculture with their "crops and lawns". You say that as if we do it to pass the time. Merely, we exploit too much in our attempts to be great and fulfill our purposes. There is no such thing as "a wonderful world without humans." Talk about a sense of self worth! It is horrible that you think so lowly of people. When you talk of Christians and the bible (what i beleive you are referring to), you have it all wrong. The bible very much applies to our lives and the future. It was written through divine influence, by God, who knows all of what will happen in the future. Humans are, in a sense the future of the planet. Wildlife is precious, true, but the deer will never aspire to be more than what it is. The bird will never envision a destiny among the stars, exploring , and finding new things as it dreams of being better than what it is. Human life is precious. I hope that you will realize your mistake eventually. Your life is much too valuable to be wasted wishing that the human race was extinct.

I used to respect National Geographic, but not after this steamy pile. What a preachy load this was. Everything pushed upon you from Nuclear disaster to the Global Warming myth.

I just finished watching this show. I agree with this poster:
"...(snipped)...a blatant ripoff of Alan Weisman's book, "The World Without Us"." Weisman's book explores this premise in much greater detail and has a quicker pace then the film. The book also does a good job documenting the basis for it's conclusions. Oh yeah, and the book also lacks the ominous voice-over and music.

Other then being a ripoff, several things annoyed me. The time devoted to the drama of "what's going to happen to that little doggie in the window?" was a little monotonous. The film also spent far too long (and far too much of the budget) on the CGI falling of the Hoover Dam, Eiffel Tower, and the Statue of Liberty. Which is the only apparent reason they kept looping them into the film every 5 minutes.

So shame on creamproductions.ca and the National Geographic Channel for not crediting Alan Weisman's book. In fact they don't credit anything or anyone. What's up with that?

and by the way... if you are going to CGI the falling of the Statue of Liberty; how can you not pay hommage to the Plants of the Apes? Would of it killed you to CGI a screeching monkey waving it's fist at the fallen head?

the world will be bot really creepie but also really cool with all the species at are bieng killed will e thriving

This was an interesting show, but I was blown away at how one sided it was. It was so anti-people. It even went to the extent of blaming people for "disrupting the mating calls of the whale with our ships". I think the most intelligent creature in the world can find away around it. It was nothing but sixty minutes of slamming mankind for its mere existence. I mean, i have no problem with environmental awareness, but this show was basically saying that the human being is nothing but a invasive parasite that needs to be killed off. I'm not kidding. It doesn't even get all the facts right. It has nuclear reactors massively exploding after one week. That's not even possible! Excuse me for thinking Nat Geo would be impartial.

AJ:

I think the narrator is Reg E. Cathey, the guy from OZ.

AJ:

I think the narrator is Reg E. Cathey, an actor who was on OZ.

Nice (sarcasm). This is what our "wise and benevolent" environmentalists would like to see happen. This show reeks of anti-human, pro-animal nature worship. The underlying message I get is "look how cool the world will be when humans have become extinct." All the dams will be gone, the marshlands will come back, cities will become forests, all our buildings will fall down, dogs will mingle with wolves and rove in packs (this is a good thing?), the fish in the ocean will be more plentiful and huge (like the sharks wouldn't take care of them). But then who would be around to enjoy the earth? Can the animals even appreciate the grandeur of our world?

The bounty of the earth was provided to bless the lives of people. We are not a scourge upon the earth -- we are the reason for its existence.

The National Geographic Channel sucks. They're becoming more and more a pulpit of man-hating, nature-loving liberal freaks.

nothin is for ever, one day humans will desapear considering that our planet is arround 4 thousand millions years old, how many civilizations has been living in the surface of these planet, no one certainly knows, it could be that earth it self go under drastics global change every a period of time and the rest of differents being remains in the surface for a long period of time, this could be the reason why there are many artifacts or materials things in these planet that we can not explain, like the nasca figures seen from the space only or the gigiant figures of the pascua island, just an example.

ok i would rather go hug some butts than watch this.

butts rule.

Ok, according to this program

1) We caused Global Warming (ignoring the solar activity that is the cause of Global Warming) and almost killed the planet

2) The planet would be better off without us

3) We are all bad and should kill the human race off and give the planet back to the animals

4) We did nothing but cause problems

Umm, right.

"Nat Geo did a fantastic job portraying the wonderful idea of humans out of the picture!"

You first buddy.

What a hypocrite.

I thought the Discovery Channel did a much better job with this subject.
I couldn't watch the entire NGC show because it was simply too tiresome. It looked like it was produced by a bunch of high schoolers. Here's how every single scene went:
[Dour narrator says]: "This is what the world was like for the 10,000 years that humans were here..."
[...continues]: "This is what it is like now..."
[ANNOYING REWIND/FAST-FORWARD SOUND]
[QUICK FLASHBACK THAT LASTS FOR 1/5 SECOND]
Repeat this sequence for 120 minutes.
I'm not taking any sides with respect to any political/environmental issues. My point is that it was a poor-quality show in general.
It played like a cruel parody of a typical NGC program. From the narcotized narrator to the cheesy sound effects, this was the work of amateurs. Simply Godawful.

Fiction will always be fiction!

But fiction doesnt have to be this hateful toward people.

This was the biggest piece of propaganda crap I've seen in a while. Not a word about wildlife out of balance until it had time to rebalance itself. Not a word about what roll global warming, of which it has been said we cannot stop at this point, would still play, even if its full effect were minimized. Not a word about mutated life that would be caused by the effects of radiation.

Just what a wonderful world this will be when we're all gone.

This is as bad as the environmental terrorists who say we have to set aside wild lands because humans are such a bad thing. If "we" are so bad, let them start by doing away with themselves first!

Guess I'm done with the National Geographic Channel. At least now I know exactly what side of the political slant they lean....

This was a good show but when it is 6 hours A.H., the microwave is still runnning with cup of coffee in it. It would have been better in an earlier segment of the period A.H.

Wow, talk about a neutral point of view...this show nothing but one potshot at humanity after the other...

I can actuallly see this happening. Animals, plants all the way God made it in the end. Man really screwed up in this one.

So.. it is worth watching or not

I think it's a great idea. I'm 15, but I find this very intriguing. It's a great way to get younger viewers to think of new ways we can live, without having to harm the environment. You people criticising this show are nuts. You don't have to be a tree hugger to be interested in this stuff, this show deserves your time, so watch an episode, and shut up about global warming and how it's nothing to worry about because everyone who was ever important says it's a threat. We're far from a perfect race, and I blame it on the critics.

It looks interesting, I'll watch it....

It looks interesting, I'll watch it....

When will this be on DVD? I called the NG store and they said they get tons of calls for it but there is no sign of a DVD release?

Oh, in response to the first post, ALL scientists have said that global warming DOES exist and mankind is causing it. Stop drinking the Fox News coolaide.

But this show doesn't deal with global warming as a reason for man's absence.

A truly dreadful program, which unmasks itself with its final lines of narration: "It took nature only 1000 years to clean up the mess we made. All we had to do....is get out of the way."

Yeah, that's it: humans (other than those all-Wise and all-Benign NGC program producers and other "green" folks) are eeeeeeviiillll.

Doncha just love the idea that all buildings will be gone after a thousand years?? I suppose the Pyramids have lasted 2500+ because they are on special Extended Warranty program.

And funnit, innit, how the producers know the fate of Fido and Fluffy's progeny, and how other animals will evolve in...a thousand years. Sorry, folks; evolution of mammals doesn't happen that fast.
and how ....convenient...that Global Warming stops ---- as if it didn't happen again and again when the human population really WAS zero!

Bad propaganda. Made me gag.

As for those who still thinks all scientists agree that GW is happening , and that humans cause it: google this name:

Kim DabeLstein Petersen

with this one:

Roger Solomon

It seems Wikipedia has curiously one-sided "standards" as to what sources can be posted on the subject of GW.

A skeptic? don't bother trying!

Consensus? I got yer consensus....right here!

This weekend I watched 'Aftermath' and the show about global warming. The first implies the world would be a better place without people, but a great place for dogs and big fish! The second states essentially the same thing with all its spewing smokestacks and the sudden disintegration of the Antarctic ice shelf, but at least starts with the plausible suggestion that a more circular orbit means higher global temperatures. I just hope in 15,000 or so years mankind is sufficiently capable of changing our environment that we can keep the ice from scraping NYC off its granite foundation!

WOW! This show sucked! It shows what the "Green Heads" and the "Water Melons" (green on the outside, red on the inside) really think about the human race. They'd all love for us to just go away. I can only hope that the writers and producers of this liberal crapola killed themselves shortly after its release. I believe in leading by example. Assholes!

I want to know who put the collar on the dog - 30 years after humans. I guess animals, without our horrible presence, grew opposable thumbs?

The disdain in the narrator's voice every time he said the word "human" was audible. Clearly a show produced with one intent - to convince us to give up everything and move back into caves where we can't screw up the planet as badly. OK - but can I bring my iPod?

I dont seem to get why this is such a big debate. It is a television show for entertainment purpose only. Stop taking it literal people. Whether the world goes on with out people or not isnt the issue. The issue is did this show entertain you or not. Come on and give up the arguements about whos gunan die already. sheesh

IT WILL HAPPEN SOME DAY JUST THINK ABOUT IT!!!!!!
