Fair to whom? The animals that were cruelly abused, tortured and suffered daily agony? The community-at-large who were exposed to extreme danger of this "sport"? Or Michael Vick's family, friends and fans who had to hear of the horrors that went on in his name?

Perhaps you mean Michael Vick himself? As far as punishment goes I suppose I'd have wished for more. As for the man himself, I'd say "not fair".

Picture a man, raised in a "civilized world" standing before a dog that had fought for over 3 hours (according to seized records), beaten, bloody, frightened. Another man loops a rope around the dogs neck and hauls him over a near by railing and watches as the dog slowly strangles to death.

Only a soul of the most broken kind can do that. What's it like to be a "man" that has no mercy, no pity and no conscience? More importantly what can a few months in jail teach such a person.

What's not fair is the people who looked up to this man and what it meant to them. Some think it horrendous. Others that "maybe it was bad but it was just a dog". Still some may think it was "cool".

All in all everyone loses. This man needs serious therapy before he pick up his soul at the door on release day or it was just "punishment". Nothing more.

They should have set his dogs loose on him, i hope he never gets to play football again.

what michael did was no doubt stupid! is the sentence fair? yes he will have two calendar years to think about what he did! trust me locked up in a cell that long will have him soul searching! not to mention how broke he's gonna be when he gets out too!! it will hit him and hurt him good! he deserves it !!

UNBELIEVABLE! I can't believe people would torture these dogs in this sick way. The pit-bull is my favorite dog. They are so lovable. I want all these people involved to go through what these dogs went through. I also think he should be in jail for the rest of his life. Play football? How can his fans care if he does or not? How can his fans allow their own children to hold up signs in his honor when he was going to court regarding this?

I don't think 23 months is near enough time...I work with dogs and what he and his friends did to these dogs is horrible...Although there are some redline cases most if not all of these dogs can be rehabilitated. There were taught to fight other dogs not humans. In some circumstances they may have to be placed in a single pet home but they definately have the right to life...I also think Vick should have to do LIFETIME community service with the Humane Society or some other organization...he should have to pay for the rest of his life...People who murder people get life...and Im sorry but in my home by pets are my children and are treated as such so the same rule should apply...he murdered his dogs either by his own hands or by a dog he put them in the ring with...so LIFE without parole!!!!

I don't think it's a question of fairness or not; I ask, where is the value of the human being in this situation? The dogs are being cared for, those taking care of them are profiting and the media is getting rating on "a human's" misery.

On the flip side, Michael's in prison (may I add paying his debt), most of the creditors are being paid and his financial handlers have stolen what they can. Seems to me that every aspect of the situation is being addressed but the lone standing issue, the human element, Michael Vick - I'll address the human's surrounding this issue, yall are acting like animals.

NO it's not fair, 23 months for MURDER is not fair. This man has forced dogs to actually KILL eachother since as you know dogs stop the fight when at least one of them is DEAD or very bad injured and can't continue fighting, well that is MURDER, therefore he deserves to die the same way he caused dead to those dogs, at least life in prison would give him time to do some thinking, and God wills, repent too.
As for the dogs, they are just victims, dogs get used to anything quickly, they can enjoy a kind way towards them and feel safe again, they will not remember the past once they play and are happy again.
REGARDS!

I agree ... is 23 months fair for murder? i think not. This is not a single or even double murder .... this is MULTIPLE MURDERS, and dogs with lifetime of suffering torture, fear, neglect, abuse. NO WAY - THAT MAN SHOULD HAVE RECEIVED WAY MORE PRISON TIME, COMMUNITY SERVICE TIME, AND MONETARY FINES.

FAIR TO WHOM? HIM NO WAY. I DON'T THINK 23 MONTHS IS NEAR ENOUGH FOR HIM. NO ITS NOT FAIR 23 MONTHS FOR MURDER OF INNOCENT DOGS. THIS IS NOT JUST A SINGLE MURDER IT WAS MULIPLE MURDERS. DOGS HAS LIFETIME OF SUFFERING & TORTURE,FEAR,& NEGLECT OF ABUSE. NO WAY, THAT PERSON SHOULD HAVE RECIEVED 23 MONTHS IN THE SAME ROOM AS HIS DOGS ARE IN. THEN HE HAS SERVED HIS TIME. IF HE IS STILL ALIVE AFTER 23 MONTHS. BUT I DON'T THINK HE WILL BE. IF, HE IS HE SHOULD BE MONITORED FOR LIFE. RACHEL BEMIDJI,MN

I have worked with rescue dogs and seen the results of fights with my own eyes, these images will be with me for ever. If this abuse had been of children or any human being for that fact, the sentence would surely had been life. There is no difference; animal cruelty, abuse and death resulting from this should be punished severely.

Michael Vicks sentence was not fair to the dogs he killed and those he brutalized into "kill or be killed" machines!

23 months in the general population of prison not the country club atmosphere he's had would have suited his deplorable crime.

And, the NFL is as bad not to bar from from the game for life. His greed was his downfall--he can't and will never make up for the damage he's done or the hurt he has caused. These Pit Bulls were not just "dogs" to use for sport and discard. Send him to volunteer and help his dogs have the life they deserved and he robbed from them. Ten years there with all abused and Redline Pit Bulls would be a start!

NO, the sentence has to be longer with even more fines. Vick should have to do community service on this very scenario. Caring for dogs that have been subjected to dog fights. Vick should to community service caring for all animals that have been treated cruelly. This horrible injustice to those beautiful dogs has educated everyone who has even an inkling of hurting animals.

Michael Vick's should have been placed in with the
dog's he abused & let them
have him. Animals are helpless & the mercy of
humans. That kind of treatment to an animal is
inexcusable. 23 years was
not enough because he will
be out before then. I too
hope he never plays football again.

I find what Vick did to those dogs to be horrifying and devastating. 23 Months isn't nearly enough time for him to serve. In a perfect world he would be in jail until all the surviving dogs are completely rehabilitated.

I think that they only animal that cannot be truly rehabilitated is Michael Vick. Sociopaths have shown that they are incapable of ever empathizing or feeling for other living things. Do I think that his dogs can be rehabilitated? That answer would be yes. I think that placed in the right environment even the most grossly abused animal can have a caring and loving life. Perhaps it would not be as total as we would like, but it would be far superior to the hell on earth that they previously lived. I would love to see Michael Vick serve his 23 month sentence in dog years! Though even then roughly 14 years will never vindicate him. If he ever were to play professionally again I would hope every human with a heart would boycott that team.

What Mike Vick did was wrong. That said slavery was wrong and the white community thinks that black people are wrong for blaming them for the social issues that black people face today. White people don't want to look at the root issue that lead young black men to be involved in such acts. I only bring that up because the title of the National Geographic show is
called Saving the Mike Vick dogs. Why don't they do a show called "How the White Man decimated the Elephant Population".
What ever your thought are, justice has been served and Mike Vick is doing time for the acts that he committed. Some of you people are undercover racist.

Very well put, kevin! It is, indeed, unconscionable that a person can watch this type of suffering, and continue to inflict it. PLEASE tell me that michael vick is paying for this re-training!

As the parent of a rescued pit bull mix, I say his sentence is absolutely not enough. Anyone who tries to argue that 'they're just dogs' or that he's 'suffering' too much has to be missing a soul. He tortured these poor animals and he gets what really amounts to a slap on the wrist for murder. How is that fair? Animals are meant to be part of our families, not throwaways who can be abused and neglected whenever the mood strikes. Michael Vick isn't getting anywhere close to what he deserves unless he's being forced to fight for hours every day, starved, beaten, abused and threatened with death by the cruelest of ways if he doesn't perform according to someone else's standards. Let him sit in that cell and rot. It's where he belongs.

There were three questions asked...

No, 23 months is not enough for the animal cruelty inflicted.

You can't teach an "old dog" new tricks. I seriously think that the dogs are not capable of being rehabilitated, unless the Dog Whisperer can do miracles.

And I DO believe dogs with such violent training are a menace to society at large. And genetically they are also threats to society. People should learn to adopt dogs with "friendlier genes". I don't think that the dogs being brought to the "Dog Whisperer" are the ones with the prior violent training.

After researching the topic...I have changed my mind. I answered the stereotypical response of not believing that a pit bull can be a safe breed. Like all dogs, if trained with respect and care, we can have gentle pets.

I was misguided by many recent incidences and the media. Most attack dogs have been euthanized because they were NEVER given a chance. Since Vick has been ordered to pay for their retraining (approximately $1 million), the dogs have been carefully screened and most have been given an opportunity to be retrained and cared for in foster homes. Let's wait and see... Like in humans, personality can be molded by nature, as well as nurture. I also thought that genes made up a major portion of the fighting pit bulls' behavior, but now I believe that the humans involved in these horrific attacks were to blame! My main concern is whether a dog's negative behavior was hardwired when trained at a very young age, and if given a similar circumstance, the dog will react or respond negatively when given a certain stimulus later, after the retraining has occurred.

Unbelievable.. 23 MONTHS? That's sick. They shuld just give him life sentance or better yet, torture HIM.

Animals are beings too, they FEEL! The poor dogs that he had.. I can't believe it.

The poor dog's will never live a good life now, he ruined it for all those dogs cause he made it a living hell for them!
But to be honest, I think the animals should be sedated. Cause I don't think they can live with children or.. Any other dogs for that matter.

They're all in pain and scarred for the rest of their lives! I saw it on Animal Planet's ASPCA..
Any dog that can't react good to children or is growling when taken away food and such, IS PUT TO SLEEP..

Just sick..

People who do anything, and I mean ANYTHING bad to animals, should just tilt a shotgun to their heads.

that is for sure, 23 months is not enough time for him he should of got 10 years for the pain and suffering those poor dogs went through. What an awful way to dye. If it was humans he would of been sentenced to death or gotten a life sentence with no parole. it just isn't right they should of put him in the pit with the dogs that he made suffer. he would of been singing a different tune then ha.

Michael Vick should have the keys to his cell thrown away and never see the light of day. I hope he never sees a football field again and - NO - I am not a racist. I happen to love Obama. I would feel the same about Vick no matter if he was white, yellow, or sky-blue pink. No conscience is no conscience and he will never have one. I hope his dogs have wonderful lives and, yes, they can be rehabilitated. The best dog we ever had was a pit bull and she lived to be 14. Her death was one of our most painful experiences. Health issues became overwhelming. I hope all of his dogs live long, happy and loving lives.

@Patricia Chalmers.

I totally agree, the dogs CAN be rehabilitated, BUT after, IDK months (maybe)?
of being brutally attacked and tortured by other dogs.
It's a miracle the 4 dogs are alive.. I know myself how bad it is..

I had a female chihuahua. But it got hit by a car when we were at my grandma. She didn't have a fence and the dog wasn't on a leash... I was.. out of myself.. On my knees there crying... Some would say that's absurd. But I couldn't watch, it was horrible.

It's been about 3 years from that, so you see that she was still young.

I got a new dog tho, and well. She's about 3 years old now with the male about 3 months older.
She's had 3 births from then and.. Ah this doesn't belong here.

So anyway.. This is how I feel about animals.. I can't STAND to see anythign horrible happen to ANY dog, cat..
Sure, what happened to me was a mistake, it wasn't, like.. On purpose! But what Vick did is just insane.

Well put Jamie. This old, highly inflamatory news story about Mr. Vick's involvement in the dogfighting scandal is an blantant attempt by NG to increase viewer ratings. What Mr. Vick did was wrong & he's paying his debt to society, but to some people, it's still not enough! They want to see him serve ridculous amounts of jail time, wishing he is not allowed to play football in the NFL once he served his sentence, even death. Educated minds see this as just because Mr. Vick is Black, is the reason for these "wishes" by cybercowards. There's rampant jealousy across this nation that athletes, particularly Black men, are becoming wealthy because of their performance abilities. Some draconian cybercowards don't like or want that and choose to spew their poison over the internet. I'm certainly going to email National Geographic my displeasure with the upcoming "Vick" story.

pghcream - you just don't get it. This has nothing whatever to do with race and nobody I know of - including me - has anything against black athletes. If people make their money honestly, more power to them no matter who they are. The dog fighting ring was all about making money - just not honestly or decently. I would never stand up for a white man who did what Michael Vick did. I would say the very same things about him as I have about Vick. What is there about a black man doing horrid things that makes other blacks feel as though they have to defend him? That's really racism!

No I am sorry for those poor animals in his care he was no role model. Maybe a trip to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary would show him people should have kindness and compassion for animals and try to socalize them in our society not make them mean and afraid of others. All he did was add to the problem.

They may become more social but it will take time. It took my rescue dog 3 years to completely trust me and he still makes mistakes. They should try to socialize them but very carefully with alot of control and effort I think they would be OK it is the amount of time you want to put into it

There is nothing fair about ruining the lives of all those dogs. He gets a slap on the wrist and the dogs suffer for the rest of there lives, for the ones that are allowed to live. I was always told abusing animals is just one step away from abusing kids or adults.
What is a fitting punishment for him? I really don't think there is one. Because nothing can change what he did to those poor animals.
Having him give money to help animals should be something has to do for the rest of his life. He should also never be allowed to own any animals for the rest of his life.
This is just so awful and upseting what I would really like to see happen to him and people like him is put them in a ring and let him fight for their life.
But I know that won't happen so I hope and pray that this haunts him for the rest of his life.

Pitbulls are, by nature, people oriented. They want to please their masters. If they see that, by fighting, they make their handler happy, they'll fight. They don't have "magic locking jaws" or any other special equipment. Any other strong, sizable dog can be trained to inflict injury, and many other breeds are far more prone to bite. Vick was not very successful at training these dogs as intended and all but 2 of them are either in sanctuaries (with 18K each accompanying them) or being fostered (with 5k of Vick's money each). One has become a hospital therapy dog in less than a year. So, Michael Vick is broke, washed up, jailed, and maybe even contrite. The dogs lived and many will find happy homes. Seems fair. Adopt a pitbull and move on. See badrap.org for more.

I think we should leave it alone. I will not view National Geographic from this day on. Sure what he did was cruel - let's move on!

There is nothing fair on what Michael Vick and his friends/family did to these Pit Bulls. I'm glad people are speaking out, Vick got 23 months and that is not long enough for what he did. I'm sure eventually he will be playing football again, there will be some team who picks him up.
These poor dogs and to imagine what they went thru makes me sick. I'd like to see Ceasar Milan do a show on this, I'm sure a lot of people would. Vick should never be allowed to own another dog. I will definitely be watching Dogtown on Friday and I hope these dogs find good homes. I'm so happy the people from Dogtown gave these dogs a chance.

Thanks to NGC, the world can see the great work going on at Dogtown, USA at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Utah. They were awarded 22 of Michael Vick's dogs, the most of any other shelter, by the courts. Actually, a couple of well-known groups thought all the rescued dogs should be euthanized, but Best Friends petitioned the courts for custody of the dogs. You can go to their website and read about the dogs and their rehabilitation.

Do I think Vick's prison sentence was fair? NO! He was lucky that his only charges were FEDERAL and he and his "homies" were only sentenced for conspiracy resulting from felony dog fighting and transporting over state lines for that purpose. This is what he got 23 months in Leavenworth for. However, when he gets out, he and his buds still have to face 2 VA state felony charges for his role in dog fighting ring and related gambling charges. This is where they will take into account his treatment of the dogs. He still faces a maximum 10 year state prison term if convicted on both charges. So he's not done yet. Hopefully, he and his buds will get enough prison time from these charges, that he will be too old to play football. I couldn't imagine any NFL team that would want him under any circumstances. You do the crime, you do the time!

Michael Vick is exactly where he deserves to be. And so are his precious dogs.

did mr. vic get what he deserved? no!! the brutality those dogs endured was so sad. vic should be made to work at shelters or rehab centers for abused animals along with a stiffer sentence. 3 years ago we adopted a pit bull from a humane society in south carolina. she was not a fighting dog but we think, along with the humane soc, she was going to be used for breeding because she is deaf. when we got her we needed to train her with sign signals. this dog is an absolute sweetheart, loving, and not a threat to anybody or any animal, we have a german shepard, dashound and a cat and she is not a threat to any of them. there isn't a day goes by that she doesn't make us laugh, i think with the right support and training this breed can be the most loyal and loving pet anybody could want. i had my reservetions at first when we got her but she quickly won over my heart and turned out to be one of the best pets i've ever had. i cannot even imagine training such a loyal and loving animal to do nothing but fight and be mean. to wrap things up i would like to say any dog can be made to be mean. this breed was singled out because of their jaw power and stout body structure. i think anybody, weather a celeb or an everyday joe, that trains animals to do this awful deed should be prosicuted to the fullest extent of the law.

I personally do not believe that he was given enough time to serve. I don't think he comprehends the severity, or depth of depravity of his crimes against animals. At his press conference he expressed no remorse for his actions against the animals he had harmed -only for the people involved. It didn't sound like he was sorry for hurting the dogs - he was sorry for getting caught and causing other people problems. The animals weren't even considered.

While I believe with love, time and perserverance that any domestic animal can be rehabilitated - I am not naive enough to believe that all animals can be changed. Some are born with an intrinsic instinct to kill, and cannot be 'loved' into domesticity. I believe that recent events have shown that attempts to rehabilitate them have had a hugely positive result.

The permanent threat to our society is from others like Michael Vick - they have no concept of how to treat others: Whether animal or human, it doesn't seem to matter.

As a foster-Mom to a rescued, abused boxer - proving to her that not everyone wanted to beat her, not everyone wants to kick her, and that a hand outstretched is not lifted in anger, has been a blessing. The love that my family has received from her is boundless. My husband says "All she wants is to be loved." and he's right. That's all any of us want, isn't it?

Is not fair is not enough time. He did terrible things to all his dogs can you imagine how can be with people? I believe if he has those feelings for animals will be worst with kids and women. He is a sick man and NEVER have to come back to play football in NFL he is not a human model that kids have to follow.
Thanks to National Geographic Channel to let us know the truth of this case and to all the persons who are helping those dogs to have a better life and quality time.
You are heroes!!!!

What he, and his cohorts, subjected those innocent dogs to, is horrific. No dogs deserve a life like that. They were treated like disposable diapers. Use, throw away. He even killed those dogs that underperformed in the most cruel, and despicable ways. He deserves a stiffer sentence. There is talk that he will get out, and walk right into a lucrative football contract. No effing way. Shame on whoever plans on giving this man millions of dollars to play ball. Thank you Dogtown for helping to rehabilitate those beautiful dogs. Now they DESERVE a chance at being a dog, and to be treated with kindness by human beings.

NO! 23 months is not fair, to us (society in general) . We should not have someone that sick free in our society in less than two years.

Michael Vick did horrible damage as well as to people who viewed him as a role model and I hope they ban him from football for good. He would be better off to work for a while at a animal sanctuary like Best Friends and have some counseling from the caring staff and founders there and see how they are trying to give peace and a happy life to each and every of GOd's creatures there and hopefully realize what a terrible mistake he has made. I don't know if 23 months are enough for him, who knows what would help a sick person like that?? I don't know if the dogs can be rehibilitated after their terrible ordel, but I think it is important and bless the people at Best Friends who don't give up on them and are trying to do that. They deserve a chance and somehow the dogs seem to still trust in people and look to us for guidance. I hope Michael Vick is made to see the videos and what they are trying to do to help the dogs. It brings tears to my eyes to see the sick things his dogs were made to do by him. The only good that came of this was the spotlight of how terrible dog frighting is and how we need to stop it and find ways to rehibilitate the dogs so they can be a proud and good breed in our society.

Please watch "Saving the Michael Vick Dogs" on NGC on Friday, Sept. 5th and encourage everyone you know to watch this important show. Shame on you MIchael VIck, you are a true loser in the game of life. I don't know if Best Friends can help these dogs, they are facing big odds and it must take incredible patience and time to do this, but if anyone deserves a chance these dogs do and if any place could do it Best Friends can. I for one am betting on the Vicktory Dogs to win! Please watch too!

As a dog owner,i think the best thing to do is treat Michael Vick the same way he treated his dogs.I thank GOD for my beagle. Duke sleeps with me and my husband. When my 4 kids were home they loved to play with him. A neighbor killed a dog of mine when i was little, Now i science then every dog i've had been house dog's. If you could be mean to a dog you could to a Child too.

I just want to thank National Geographic Channel and Animal Planet to bringing the world of dogfighting to the limelight. I hope the public will see that pit bulls are not all what the media protrays them to be, vicious breeds. My husband and I just got a pitbull puppy and we love him to death. To think what some of these pitbulls went through becuase of Micheal Vick's greediness, just makes me sick to my stomach. I hate what Michael Vick did and I hope he learned an important lesson. This guy is suppossed to be a role model to kids out there. I really don't know what he was thinking. That what he was doing was ok? Seriously. I personally feel that he got a good punishment. Some people have commented that he should have gotten more time, but I think it was better then nothing at all. His pitbulls were vindicated and many of them are being adopted out. Thanks to the rescue groups that worked so hard to get them to be adoptable. Michael Vick is done for. He doesn't need any more time in jail. Once he is out, he will never be seen the same again. He would have to move heaven and earth to redeem himself again.

NO!! THEY DIDNT GET ENOUGH TIME!! this disgusting and disturbd individual and all of his kind, insecure, with low self esteem issues, should get what they gave.maybe electrocution,or hanging, or drowning, maybe they should be bait in an arena... lets see how they would like that. well,at least they get to be heard.

Im glad we have pagens who value animals above human life.

Michael Vick should NEVER again see the light of day. I own a pit bull and have many dogs over the years...pits are different. They are so sensitive and "human". They never deserve this horrible abuse. Penalties for animal cruelty need to be tripled in the case of dogfighting. Sick bastards.

Thank you to the special people with big hearts who are the angels to these gentle beings. There is a special place inn Heaven for you. I cry when I read this stuff. It affects me that much.

I find it funny that people are posting on here about racism and about how we should value Michael Vick's life over the life of his dogs.

The issue at hand here is about these dogs, and the questions posed to us. If you don't want to discuss it anymore, don't post on here and go somewhere else!

Do I think it's fair? No. As much as I want Michael Vick to have every one of his teeth pulled out (like Georgia) or forced to fight a fellow human to the death, I know that that isn't the solution. I think the solution for Mr. Vick, as well as any other person involved in animal cruelty, should be to do thousands of hours of community service helping animals so that they can gain a respect and love for those that they used to abuse. Only then will we be able to properly protect animals from human abuse.

I think the level of rehabilitation has a lot to do with the amount of work that people put into these dogs. There are no vicious breeds, only vicious owners/trainers. In fact, pitbulls by nature are people-pleasers, which is why they will go as far as killing their own kind to please their masters.

I believe that after awhile, there dogs may be able to be put in good homes, although I think they may not be safe around other dogs.

Unforunately, Mr. Vick will only be subjected to 23 months of trauma where as these dogs have to live with a lifetime of it.

I would like to see him serve additional time for the state charges. I am also hopeful that he will never play football professionally again. It might not be a bad idea to keep him chained to a small cold house as well.

there is no way that Vick's sentence is fair for what he did. 23 months for torturing and murdering living beings. lucky for him they were 'only dogs' and since dogs can't talk that means that they don't deserve the same humane treatment and justice as humans, right? BS. But it's not Vick's fault, the sentences for even the most heinous of animal abuse cases are leinient at best. if only americans thought of animal abuse the same way they thought of child abuse.
the bottom line here is that those dogs didn't ask for that life-none of them wanted to be born into the world of dog fighting. pits are an easy mark for fighting dogs b/c they're so damn eager to please their owner they will do it at any cost. those sickos exploit the fact that those dogs will do whatever they tell them to do. disgusting. vick and his friends are depraved individuals who committed unspeakable acts to make literally a few bucks. i mean, these people removed a dog's teeth so she couldn't fight back while they were breeding her. sick.
so is vick's sentence fair? no. but i guess it's better than nothing at all.
i only hope at least one person puts him in his place while he's in the pen. it's the least he deserves.

Its sad to see the fall of a man in such a way. And having to go down like that doesn't even compare to the demise of some of his dogs. I feel that his 23 month prison sentence is fair and just. I dont see the State pursuing charges when he is released. All I wish for him is to get a better understanding of pit bulls. I raised Champion Beagles as a teenager and not until 1991 did I have my first encounter w/ a pit bull. Since then I wont have a dog unless it is a pit bull. Thumbs up to the National Geographic Channel for airing the special about his dogs. I was not surprised to see that they scored higher on temperament tests than German Shepards and even my beloved beagles. I am a firm believer that all dogs go to Heaven. Mike Vick, if he is lucky will repent and join some of his former pit bulls in Heaven.

No, his prison is NOT fair. He should be in jail forever !! They should set the dogs on him. He is a waste of oxygen.

Michael Vick's sentence for the brutal torture and murders of Man's Best Friends is not sufficient. Pulling Dog's teeth out, making Dogs fight to death, murdering Dogs by drowning and other detestable methods for man's profit and perverted pleasure deserve a lifetime sentence. Michael Vick is despicable.
The people at Dogtown are the true role models and heroes in our society. Michael Vick and his likes are the scum of the earth. These precious Dogs can be rehabilitated. Dogtown has given them the chance at a life these Dogs are entitled to and deserve. My two pitbulls are napping beside me but this is their opinion also!! We all know "Dog" is spelled "God" backwards. They are truly God's gift to us.

NO, No and No, it's not nearly enough time to sit and think about what he did to and with these poor dogs. I like many others have pets, actually more than most do. They are god's creatures... a gift to us...many are used for rehabilitation purposes for people.

These dogs were worked with repeatedly to do what they were made to do and praised and rewarded for it. They always want to pleasure their owners. Some say OMG its a pitbull, its a breed of dog that has been given a bad rep. They weren't born fighting, they are taught this behavior by idiots like Michael Vick. Rot - its where you belong..

How can 23 months in jail teach this man right from wrong? He had his whole life to learn this simple life lesson. ive owned a pitbull for 15yrs now and my dog is the most loving animal there is.I think its a shame the "bad rap" these dogs get, because of ignorance of people like Micheal Dick, oops i mean Vick. These dogs can be rehabilitated, but it will take time of isolation, and alot of money, not to metion emotional scars. Would Micheal Vick think its fair to him to have his teeth ripped out of his mouth and scarred, and put in a kennel as big as the dogs will have to live in. Being of African American decent I would think he would have a negative outlook towards slavery, and when you think about it, isnt this what he did to these precious animals? Abused, beaten and treated as though they have no worth. I feel the court should make him be finacially responsible for these dogs until the last one is alive.

It makes me sick to think of what these dogs have had to go through. It'd be fair if Michael Vick never got to play football nor if a franchise got to receive millions of dollars because of him. Yeah, he was a great player. What he knowingly did--and hid for many years--negates all that. Kudos to Dogtown for taking on these dogs, to train and rehabilitate them so they could be finally be dogs.

He needs to be tied up in that damn pin and covered in bacon grease and let everyone of those dogs have a piece of him. He only had to pay 1 million dollars. To him that is only like ten bucks. He should have to pay 1 million dollars a month for the rest of his life! At least the money would ensure that the people who are able to take the dogs in will be able to afford them.

Stuff like this just makes me so mad. It is the reason I am learning to be a dog trainer. All dogs have the right to live a decent life.

23 months is not near enough time, unless he was sent to the worse prison there is, i don't know which one that is, but I hope he gets the s*** kick out of him

One thing that really upsets me about Michael Vick is that people who enjoy watching this type of cruelty, or can stand by and think nothing is wrong with it, has a fundemental problem in their nature. There is no empathy or sympathy shown towards animals. One thing that is inate in humans is empathy. What does it mean when you can not show it? I am not saying that Michael Vick will be a serial killer, however, what other type of action would be acceptable to him? Has the status and fan worship affected him enough to believe he can do what he wants? I would be interested to know if he actually understands why people are so upset with him, or if he is thinking he is just misunderstood or being treated unfairly

vick got off easy compaired to the life those poor dogs might have. bravo to dog town for helping them. I think vick should stay in prison until every last dog is rehabilitated.

M. Vick is getting off easy
Those dogs did not. I Thank God for the people who work and run dog town. May god bless you for what you are doing for all the dogs who need a little love. As for M. Vick who?

Not only is Vick's sentence not long enough, the courts should have mandated that he pay for the entire rehabilitation of the dogs as well as the living expenses of the dogs that cannot ever be put in their own home.

I hope the Dogtown episode opens eyes to the cruelty that takes place in the underground dog fighting world, and people demand the government toughen the penalty for this cruel treatment of man's best friend!

I enjoyed thoroughly Dog Town, the program that showed how Michael Vick's dogs are being rehabilitated. I really enjoyed the trainers in the program, they had such heart and determination to help these broken dogs back to a life with tremedous knowledge, patience and love. I now have a different opinion of Pit Bulls after this wonderful documentary and know any dog can be changed if given a fair shot.
That show made me tear up man!

As far as Michael Vick, He's not Man's best friend nor Dog's best friend, he's no ones best friend.

Michael Vick will have continued punishment the rest of his life, by dog lovers all over the world.

We'll never forget!

Those of you making this have anything to do with race are obviously just idiots w/ a chip on your shoulder. Nobody cares if Vick was black, purple, or green with orange polka dots! The fact of the matter is that the guy should have to endure what he put those poor dogs through! Put him in a ring with a hungry grizzly bear & see how he fares - then if he loses hang him - just like they did the dogs. The only breed specific problem I see is that of the human kind. People need to realize that the world doesn't revolve around our species we actually answer to the world. People should not put their negative shortcomings off on animals or the enviornment.

I watched the special tonight on the rescued pitbulls from Vick. It was heart-wrenching to see the abuse & murder of the dogs. As I sit here with my 3 "grand-pups" around about me, I can't for the life of me see how anyone can do such things. He is no better than a murderer of humanity. There's two things that should never be tolerated, child or animal abuse. I agree with Wiggins, he should have been fined or mandated to pay an extreme amount for the rehabilitation & welfare of the dogs. I don't think he should ever be allowed to play sports or draw an outrageous paycheck either. He definitely should never be allowed to have another dog or pet of any kind.

God bless you fine folks at Dog Town for all the great work you do.

THATS ALL I HOPE IS MICHEAL VICKS IS NOT RECEIVEING ANY PROCEEDS OFF THIS SHOW...PLEASE TELL ME NO, I WONDER ...
I ASK THIS QUESTIONS TO PEOPLE PRODUCE THIS SHOW?

I tried to watch DogTown, but it made my stomach come up to my throat. I had to change the channel. I don't understand how a person could make animals fight with such violence, and not feel anything for these animals, whether they be dogs, roosters or any kind of animal. Only someone without conscience or a soul.

They should have set his dogs loose on him, i hope he never gets to play football again.

Totally agree with this post, also think that 23 months was far too short.
Good luck to the Dogs rehab team.

I don't think 23 months is even close to what Michael Vick should have received for a sentence. It is going to take years for these dogs to get back to a normal life, hopefully with a wonderful, loving family, Vick is getting off WAY TOO EASY. He should have to pay the men and women, along with Best Friends, much more than what they received from Vick. I use to think that he was a great football player, now he is no better than the dirt under my feet. God Bless these dogs and God Bless the men and women that are working with them now.

I hope karma bites M.Vick right in the you-know -what. Believe me, what our God has in store for Vick we could never think of in a life time. What Vick did,he will make up for before he leaves this planet. Me being an animal lover of (the dogs) not Vick, I can tell you these dogs have stolen my heart. May God be with them and the care takers. Thank you all.

i am so disgusted on so many levels! what kind of person would ever be ok with the horrible stuff Mike Vick did?!? plus to deny he did anything wrong!! i am so glad for dogtown! please continue to educate people. it is so sad that we cannot do our annual camping with our family because we own a pit bull (even though he is a big, silly, gumpy 3-month old.)
people!! educate yourselves and the media is not the way to do that!!

Look at it this way If he had beaten a person he would have most likely been tried to attempted murder and gotten a like sentance. Is it fair that he hurt these animals in a similar horrid way and he only got 24 months? To that fact it was many dogs! No I don't think so.

You see it may seem horrible of me, but I believe that torture should be leagal for cases like these. That they should feel the same immense pain that those dogs felt. Those dogs that could do nothing to help themselves. Same For the murderers that carve up and hurt their victims.

He is gonna be looking over his shoulder for the rest of his life. Waiting for Karma to hit him hard, with somthing painful.

In my eyes he is not only not a man... he is lower than a piece of dirt and doesn't deserve to exist. A waste of a human life.

Vick is nothing more than one person with the monetary means to exploit both dogs and people. His actions are no different than thousands before him, supported by followers of unadulterated evil. He just happens to be stupid enough to be caught. Although I would like to believe his sentence would change his behavior I am doubtful. I am tired of searching for reasons for not just shooting these idiots. Society reaps nothing but misery from such behavior. This expose should lay to rest arguments of labeling of "bad dogs". Mainly it is once again "bad owners", which translates into internal societal rot.

I watched the story tonight about the dogs that were rescued from Micheal Vicks home and it brought tears to my eyes. How anyone could torture an animal is beyond me. I have a pitbull of my own and could never imagine her being in the condition that those dogs were in. No, I don't think he should only serve 23 months, I think it should be a lifetime. He should have to suffer just as those beautiful animals had to at his hands. The judicial system was way to easy on him. He should have to go through everything that he put those dogs through, from the fighting to beating, and even the pulling of teeth to make the breeding process easier. I just wonder how Mr. Vick would like to be strapped to a contraption for breeding purposes. What he did was completly and totally outrageous and he should have to pay for it for the rest of his life just like those beautiful dogs will have to.

I honestly don't think Vick can get rehabilitated. Im sorry to say. In this case, this man, was making millions of dollars in a career he loved and others loved him for, but he decided to cash in on some dogs. But he did this for fun! That is sick. we know he didn't need the money, Not that that is an excuse by any means. I am happy though that since he has been caught several more dog rings have been found. I don't trust this man and only believe he should be treated to what he treated his dogs to. Rape, strangulations, being forced to fight for hours on end and electrocution. I can only hope that his prison mates make sure that at least some of this happens. Our country would be alot better if criminal punishment were a what you do is what your punishment will be. People would be scared to death.

Furthermore. Vick is a public Icon, a celebrity before this. He was already under a watchful eye of the public for paparazzi purposes, how many others are doing the same thing and getting away with it? Sickening

I found the Dogtown - Michael Vick program upsetting. As a pet owner and animal lover, I feel its great that the dogs from Vick's kennels were rescued. However the treatment given these dogs for this television episode is 'over the top' in my opinion. I could not help but feel that reported $800,000 cost to rehab the Vick kennel dogs could and should have been spent to do good elsewhere in this world. The lavish compassion given to these animals seems out of touch when one thinks of the elderly and poor who are in need - and that do not receive anywhere near the attention given the animals at Dogtown. The narrative and subject of this program was so 'bleeding heart' that it went beyond common sense. I honestly could not watch the entire program because I felt it was so out-of-touch.
SB

I think Michael Vick's punishment in jail should last the length of the time he ran this operation, 6 years. I believe he should have had a much higher fine ($30 million, 1 million for each dog carcass found on his property), all given to animal rescue organizations. I believe if an NFL team touches him in the future they will hear the wrath of animal lovers everywhere. We have a loud voice and thankfully our millions way out number scum like Michael Vick. Thank you to Dogtown and National Geographic for the amazing work you do!

I think his sentence is not fair. In addition to the jail time, I would have probably given him the same treatment he gave his dogs. People like that deserve to be tortured. They should make that legal in the U.S.A for people who abuse other people and animals. I think he got off easy. Hopefully he doesn't have any children that can pick up on his bad habits.

Vick did not get what he deserved, no way shape or form. He pled guilty, received a lesser sentence, was fined, lost his career, endorsements and then filed bankruptcy. If any football team even considers signing him after this horrific display of "superstar gone bad", the public will retaliate.

The abuse that these dogs suffered, leave mental and physical scars that they carry for life. Dogs and other animals for that matter are not property, they are family pack members and need to be treated as such. Just as exploited children, the punishment does not fit the crime, yet the sentencing is less because they are viewed as property.

As a rescue volunteer and positive trainer, I have worked with many pitbulls and pitty mixes who are the most loving dogs who deserve every chance to just be a dog. It's a shame that the public latches onto a bred fad and pushes it to the limit. What's next, killer poodles? Please.....

Dogtown dicussed the overbreeding problems that occur with this bred which is very true. Remember when 101 dalmations caused the over breeding of dalmations and the issues that caused so many of these dogs to be surrendered to shelters due to behavioral problems? All dogs deserve a second chance to enjoy life. And yes, rehabilation is an option.

"Tough Guys" think it's cool to own and "outlaw" breed and parade around with their dogs on spike collars "looking bad". Get real people, these are dogs who deserve the unconditional love in return for what they offer to their humans.

Dog fighting is a cruel, unhumane statement of what our society has become and anyone who participates deserves the same treatment that these dogs suffered.

Lets put two people in a ring, pull their teeth, shoot them up with steriods, place shards of glass under their skin, cover them with steak meat and feed them to a starving opponent and let them fight to the death. Whoever loses, gets strung up, tazered and held underwater till they are within seconds of death and then lets just see what the judical system does!!

And here we are paying tax dollars to rehabilate a "superstar". I say strip him of all his assets, sell all his property, and donate all the money to shelters and rescue groups in the country to help homeless animals live a better life. I'm sure that some of creditors would be happy to donate what he owes in return for a bad debt write off.

Life is not fair, perhaps Michael Vick, after he serves his sentence, can work at
Dogtown, and see what he and his cohorts did to those innocent dogs. Michael Vick, go on a crusade and help find more
of the heartless, cold souls in this country, who
find pleasure in watching this horrible sport. No amount of Jail will punish this man. He will pay the
rest of his life, and at the end, Michael Vick, I wish your last days you will remember the creatures you helped to
torture. And torture it is.
Actually I feel sorry for you, YOU HAD IT ALL. After death what do we leave behind???? We will be remembered by our good or bad name. Your name will always be remembered as a cruel cruel man.

MARG,
we should move on???????
No, this has brought this
horrible sport more into the spotlight. Has NOTHING to do with color.
But move on???? NEVER,
Move on to find some more of those disgusting humans
who see this as a SPORT,
but never move on.
This is big business in the USA, and I wish I could live long enough to
bring everyone who partakes in this "sport" to justice.
My abused, beaten Rottweilers I have had the HONOR to rehabilitate, will
make me move on, to bring
to light about this "sport".
You should do the same if you are an animal lover.

Hooray for such an insightful, honest and heartwarming documentary. Pitbulls and Rottweilers are NOT the vicious killers and maulers that the media has portrayed them to be. Even abused dogs can be rehabilitated with patience, love and kindness.

We need to have more documentaries like this to educate the public.

Although, truly, the one tht needs the most rehabilitation and education is Michael Vick and those like him!

A 23 month sentence is not enough. There is so much more that goes on with this underground dog fighting. To do what he and his buddies did, you have to be totally heartless. They as humans have no regards for themselves. As for Vick, I hope his career is ended. I did not feel at all saddened when he had to file for bankruptcy. As for his dogs, it really tugged at my heart last night as I watched. I have two pits, one of whom was a stray who had his ribs broken and who cowered away from everyone for the first two weeks. With time and patience, he has turned out to be an amazing dog. I hope Vick never owns another animal again!!!!

He should have received a harsher sentence plus a much larger fine to pay for the care of these dogs and the monsters that removed the female dog's teeth to breed her, ditto, and every person that was involved in the torture and abuse of these animals should be be in prison and treated the way the dogs were behind bars.

It is just too horrible and it also makes me wonder if they were doing this kind of torture to women and children.

Just horrible and the laws have to be made far harsher and enforced because there is not enough incentive to stop these monsters posing as humans.

I am a dog lover and do not think that Mike Vick sentence is even close enough to the punishment and cruelty he put those dogs through. After watching episode of Dogtown where the dogs are being cared for and rehabilated I do believe that they can be retrained to be loving animals. I admire and respect the courage it has taken for these humans to try to take back all there hurt and give them love. I truly would like to commend them for all their support and help with the Michael Vick dogs and do truly wish Micheal Vick learns, but I doubt it. His and all the others involved should have to see them and know what they did is unforgiveable.

I just recently lost my dog to cancer and had to be put down. I had my angel dog for 11 years and I can't even begin to explain the deep pain I still have. I am dog lover and I love them as much or equal to how much I love my human family. As I watched the program on the the Micahel Vic dogs it opened up my HURT and loss of my beloved angel and best friend.
23 years; I don't even think 50 years. I say give him the death penalty! What he did was just plain torture and murder. These dogs are helpless. They were put here on earth by GOD to love us unconditionally and bring us happiness. How can anyone have the heart to do these things to them. I can only think it would be the devil himself.
THANK GOD for Dogtown and what they are doing for the dogs.
Yes I truly believe these dogs can be rehabilitated and I know there are many good people out there that will be able to give them homes and give them the love and nurturing they need.
People like MIchael Vick and his cohorts are evil people.

I don't think that vick got enough prison time. what he did was so wrong. I think he and the others envolved in the dog fighting ring should fry! when i first heard about the dogs and how the courts wanted to put them down,my heart went out to all of them. i love dogs, and i think that any dog no matter what type of life it had, it can be changed for the better. when i heard about dogtown coming on tv i set my dvr to record it. and i can say that i give john mad props for what he belevies in. i would love to do what he does. i think that alot of people out there just hear and see the bad side of the pits, if they were to ever met one and get to know the dog they would fall in love with the breed. i always say that any dog can be a vicious dog and i belevie that small dogs are the meaniest dogs of all, now i know not everyone will agree with me. but a small dog will bite you before a big dog. one day i will have a pit bull and i will show they people in the world that pits are not the aggressive dogs they are made out to be. if they are treated right with love, respect and socialize them, they are just like any other dog in the world. what makes me so mad is that way back in the day the first dogs to have the bad names were the german sheperd. then the chows ,dobes, then the rotties. one day the closed minded people will have another breed to call dangerous and aggresive. i wish all the people working at dogtown the best of luck. and i wish i could be there with yall.

People like MV are pure EVIL

Michael Vick's dogs where are they now? Some are in dog town, a community where they can feel safe and free, some are in other rescue shelters. All are being rehabilitated. There is no reason why these animals cannot be re-trained and coddled, why they cannot be re-entered into society. Dogs are unlike people in many regards and the saying 'you cannot teach an old dogs new tricks' is not true; just ask my 12 year old retriever who recently learned roll-over. Dogs are amazing and capable sentient beings, ones that deserve life as much as or maybe even more than their human companions. As an emergency veterinary technician and as a future veterinarian I can honestly say that I hope this behavior from humans stops. We need to re-examine our society and change what is the prevalent cause of such violence and hate.
Michale Vick deserves a longer prison sentence one that truly teaches him the error of his ways. His inability to present himself in a desirable manner should be an example to all the children who looked up to him. Everyone who held Michael Vick in high regard should know that what he did was wrong and that the consequences for such actions are fierce. Animal welfare activists must be rolling in their beds knowing that while they have won a slight victory, the fight is still only in the first round.

NO WAY, is 23 months enoough time for that low-life!!!!! He ahould have to pull at least 20 years!! Those poor furbabies have suffered so much. Yes, they can & have been rehabilitated. This Vick trash thought that just because he was a big football star he could do anything. Thank GOD & all those people that got the evidence needed to put him where he belongs. Hopefully he is in a cell with some dog-lovers & gets some well-deserved payback. Thank you Dogtown & people there. And thanks to all the others that helped with these furbabies.

No, I don't think Vick got the punishment he deserves. Not even close. Maybe he should be thrown into a cage and beaten nearly to death. And when he's healed, do it again. Over and over just like the dogs had to go through. 23 months. What kind punishment is that? I see drug dealers and thieves get more time than that. What he did was torture, murder. In my family, a pet is the family. My dog is my baby, always has been, and always will be. Like they said on the show, the Pitt-bull use to be the American Dog. Now everybody associates them with violence. It's not right to the dog. It's being raciest to them because of their breed. Should we band people and put them down because of their race. It's the same thing. It's MV and other people like him, people that have been doing this years before he ever thought about it, who makes these dogs an outcast. People are afraid of these dogs and they shouldn't be. It's not right that these dogs are being put down day after day because of it's breed. Dogtown proved that these dogs are loving animals, even after being beaten. They just want to be loved, wanted, played with and needed by people. No, maybe some of them may not be able to be around other dogs again, but there are dogs like that anyways. I think Michael Vick, and everybody who has fought and tortured animals should receive a harder , more fit punishment. After all, murder is murder.

What he did to these dogs was SO sick and wrong! His prison sentence was justified and it should have been longer! The rest of the people involved should have heavy punishment as well! I salute the judge for giving him the maximum sentence. One thing we fail to recognize though is the fact that people who beat animals are severely monitored because most of the time ANIMALS ARE WHAT MURDERERS START WITH! So whose to say that this man and his friends were not capable of murder?

I believe in a "hand for a hand" justice system so I say when Vick is released we use him as a "bait dog."

no he deserved way more then what he got I am a pittbull lover I own 3 of them 2 males 1 female they get along with my 2 young daughters 9 and 10 and my puppy wich is chawawa and jack russel also they get along with my 3 cats its not the dogs fault they are raised to do this its the owner and he should have gotten alot more then what he got

The show was heartbreaking and uplifting at the same time. Vick should have to spend several months at Dogtown as an unpaid and closely watched volunteer. He could clean kennels, etc. maybe this would free up the time true trainers could spend with their animals.
Dogtown must feel like heaven to all of the unwanted and abused animals sent there.
It is said you can judge a society by the way it treats its animals. I wonder what that says about the many people who support any kind of vilolence to any animal under the guise of "sport".

The problem with the Michael Vick case is you can punish him until the end of time but it will never change the pain and suffering he forced upon the dogs that were in his care. The punishment will never match what he has done.

What can be done is that we can ensure that his acts do not go unnoticed and focus more on ending the suffering for other dogs that are still being subjected to the same life that the Michael Vick dogs were living. We can use him and the high profile of the case to put a huge spotlight on dog fighting and getting laws passed so we as a society can put an end to the abuse.

Forget about Michael Vick - we all know he's a lowlife and he's in jail doing time for his crime. We need to focus on turning his horrible acts into something positive for the animals.

I never heard him apologize to the animals he killed and watchws be mutilated, or specifically for what he put them through.

He apologized to the judge, his family, kids who looked up to him, his coach, the commissioner, his teammates, but never a word for those animals.

His sentence was mild compared to the misery he caused. He should be denied the glory of playing football. He should do community service relating to shelter dogs, and/or dogfighting.

Sorry, I just didn't hear that remorse for those poor animals. Just that he had fallen from his lofty pedestal, and felt guilty for that. He is still bad newz.

I think an eye for an eye would be perfect. And I dont mean find him an adoptive family. Why dont we hang his dumb ass over a railing to slowly strangle to death? And dont stop there, do it to all the spineless punks who cant fight themselves, and use dogs to boost there machismo.

It's not long enough for the cruel things that were done to those dogs! He should have also been made to pay for the total amount of the cost of rehabilitating the dogs. I was just so appalled when I found out all of Georgia's teeth had been pulled to breed her. I think the vet that did that should also be put in jail and have his license to practice taken away.

I think M. Vick needs to be rehabilitated.
I think penalties for animal abuse have to be stricter

I am the proud owner of 2 rescued pitbulls. They are both sweet, caring, and they strive to do whatever will please me. Just as Vick's dogs had done.
I think what micheal vick did was horrific and cruel. I think his jail sentence should be longer and he should have to volunteer his time at an animal shelter. I have heard that a minor league football team is offering him millions to play for their team!! It makes me sick to think that he will have the opportunity to play again and make money. If he does get to play again, altleast half of his paychecks should go to the dogs and the families they are now a part of. That team must only care about winning and not the moral values of their players. There is a special place in hell for micheal vick!!

Pitbull fighting in this country is a HUGE problem. Pet over population is out of control. 10 MILLION DOGS AND CATS ARE BEING KILLED EVERY YEAR BECAUSE THEY HAVE NO HOMES!!! **PLEASE SPAY AND NEUTER**

I hope that Michael Vick gets everything he deserves during his 23 month incarceration. I hope he becomes VERY close with his cellmate. At least 23,000 times closer. Maybe he'll have his teeth extracted during his jail time. Or at least have "something" cut off!

What we fail to recognize, is not just the agony he caused these dogs, but the agony he placed on society. We need to fight to change the current laws as they stand (mostly misdemeanors), to have them stand as felonies. And not just minor felonies, but felonies that carry substantial mandatory jail sentences.

This man definitely has mental problems. How can a person be so heartless and cruel to another living creature? I think he is a threat to society and should be kept off the streets for many years. Or better yet, give him the same treatment he gave his dogs.

Bunch of sissy libs on this board. The fact is nature is violent.

The Sentence Of Micheal Vick Fair.
If that was your average Joe Blow, this sentence is a mild dent. This type of behavior is just flat out unexceptable by a professional athlete. Knowing right from wrong, and being a role model for many young people these type of athletes need to be used as an example of the type of behavior that is flat out wrong. Now you have tons of people looking at dog fighting that may have never expeienced it, and 24 months in prison, whoopty do. On top of that as a young man growing up around pit bulls, they are great dogs like any other. Now the breed is back in the medias eyes as dangerous preditors. All in all the environment these dogs were exposed to is just sad and sickning. For a man with the money he contains, Micheal Vicks sentence should be: Robbed of all finances and accets. To start all over again like these dogs are and have to be examined be a team of experts to see if he is ready to return to a normal life again. Then release him from prison.

The saddest part is that until there are stricter laws in place for those horrible people that fight dogs.. this will keep happening.. The pitbull in my opinion is the best breed to have as a pet.. My pit is a part of our family and i will never own any other breed..There was no justice for all the trauma that those babies were put through..But just remember that there is a special place in hell for people like him..

This so called man is nothing but a bully. He should be in jail for the rest of his life!! He is cruel and a monster. I cry for his poor dogs and every animal put through this awful treatment. Thank God for people like the ones at Dogtown.

Yea, nature is violent - when fending for food, land or mates. Nature is also kind - the difference is breeding dogs to fight and then revel in the violence - that's not natural. Lions don't kill one another simply because they have a blood thirsty need for violence - unfortunately, that need is mostly regulated to humans.

I think he needs more time, I love all animals!
what him and his friends did i hope the true justice is happing to him in prison. Those dogs will get help,BUT will it be enough for them to live and have a good life!!!!

i do not think that what he got was just, however when you stop and look at all that he really did lose. for instance, he lost the nike deal, reebok deal, nfl career the estimated almost milion dollars for restitution he had to pay making the grand totali heard was some where around 140 million dollars!! And if they never let him play football again unless he donates 25 percent of his salary to the aspca. yea that might be just.

After watching the first part of the show entitled Dog Town, Saving the Michael Vick dogs, I wish the new handlers and the dogs the best of success. To that end, may I suggest that the new handlers of the Vick dogs utilize the best resources available to them? In hindsight, perhaps Nat Geo Channel might have considered coordinating their other renouned tv series star Cesar Millan to "train" the Vick handlers to maximize their success before they made first contact with the Vick dogs. Perhaps Cesar's expertise (if even only through watching his series), could have provided Vick dog handlers vital insight in handling, evaluating and rehabilitating the dogs. While love and affection can go a long way, Cesar has shown that powerful breeds (that have potential red zone behavior) require calm assertive pack leaders. I believe the new Vick handlers to be capable of that, though it didn't come through from what I saw of the show. I think that's too bad. But, then, we're all learning.

this is a post script,i neglected to mention that, the vet that removed, one of the pits teeth, should also recieve jail time, also, have his licence revolked and NOT be allowed near animals again.vic need not bear all the burden.ANYONE who participates should be prosecuted!!!!!!!!!

23 months is insane! justice is far from served justice would be mr. vick being used as a 'bait dog' or placed in a rape rack. I own 2 pits myself and they have every quality any family would love. u.s.a animal cruelty laws are far behind the times. justice is rarely served in these cases.pure evil, to idlely stand by and watch torture and death. let alone to fund it. ingorant people beleive that these dogs are ruined which is so far from the truth. no living thing should have endure what these dogs have been through.vick should have his teeth removed and placed in the famous rape rack. bet his cellmate would love that!

I feel that Michael Vick should be tortured in all the ways he tortured those poor dogs. He should also not be allowed to EVER play football, and he should have to do public service announcements about how in humane dog fighting is. What a sicko he must be. Shame on the NFL if they let Michael play when he's done with his joke of a prison sentence.

I doubt 23 months would ever sink into a mind such as Michael Vick's.

Incredibly, rehabilitation for a dog is possible. Humans? Most of the time I'm just not sure.

One thing, it wouldn't do any good to him what he's done to those dogs. It'll haunt ya. If anyone can come up with a fitting punishment please post it here.

For those of us who understand that animals are truely one of Gods greatest gifts, know that there is nothing that could make this horrific act redeemable. I applaud National Geographic for your wonderful coverage on these great dogs. Education is the only chance that these animals have against the odds of human cruelty! A very special thank you to the volunteers and trainers at Best Friends for all the time, patience and love they give back. You have a place in heaven!!

I think he should have received more time and I am so glad that the dogs are going to live a normal life. I am the owner of an American Pitbull Terrier and he is the greatest dog I have ever had! To think someone was abusing and treating these animals in such a sick way can never be understood by me. Michael Vick is a disgrace to the human race.

I was so happy to see the dogs that were put through so much torture and drama for the entertainment of men are being given a second chance. A lot of people are rooting for these dogs and I hope they get the happy life they all deserve. Hopefully, this experience will also show that dogs are only as mean as their owners are. Whether a pit bull or another breed, it is not programed in their DNA to kill or be mean.

you can not under any circumstances think that what a human being does with a animal is worth taking his freedoms and rights away and then go have a steak all i see up here are a bunch of jealous mofos that wish they had michael vick kind of money, simply jealous because someone has something you dont have and you get a thrill out of seeing them fail in life thats all this is about, a way to make yourselves feel better than a millionaire lol, how pathetic, like people in this country really care about anything anymore lol

Vick's sentance is a bunch of bs. In our society I guess dogs lives are worth more than people's lives. How many dog lovers are sociopaths who can't get along with people so they train a dog and then fall in love with it because it does what they tell IT to do?
