Viewer Tweet Questions Answered!

This morning on Twitter we asked our followers "What would you like to know about @NatGeoChannel? I'll select some of your questions and have staff answer them!"

We got some great questions - and here are the answers. If you have other questions - post them in the comments or hit us up on Twitter at @natgeochannel!

@chmullig what dept/person actually manages the account? Do you use cotweet or something similar to help? Any metrics for succes?

The @NatGeoChannel account is managed by our digital marketing duo, Clay and Darren, with a ton of help this summer from our intern Rick. We use @HootSuite for some tools. We love hearing from our viewers about what they're watching on the Channel and hope that our Twitter followers learn something new every day by following us.

@Diamond_Back Where do I sign up to be a National Geographic explorer?

You can actually apply to be a National Geographic grantee/explorer from the National Geographic Society. Information about how to apply is available here

@mitchbrevard is the show repossessed real or staged?

We love Repossessed and it's 100% real! Larry Pittman, who is featured in the show, runs Jam Recovery based in New Jersey. For those of you unfamiliar with Repossessed, you can see what we're talking about here - we think you'll love it.

@yonalona I cannot find information when Dog Whisperer in aired on Baltic NatGeo channel. Our TV program shows UK times only. Help?

Unfortunately Dog Whisperer isn't available in the Baltics on Nat Geo Wild - it's only available in the U.K.

@thacz are you going to make new episodes of Riddles of the Dead? love that show.

Never say never, but we don't have any Riddles of the Dead on the schedule right now. We did have a great show recently about Angkor .

@BiologyBabe Do you have internships for graduating bio majors?

National Geographic has a robust internship program. Opportunities are posted at the NGS Career Opportunities site .

@eaglesrhythm I would like to know how did NG get started?

The National Geographic Society was founded in 1888 by explorers and scientists as "a society for the increase and diffusion of geographical knowledge." Alexander Graham Bell was the second president of the organization. More about the history and work of the Society can be found here.

@jgamotiai want to work @NatGeoChannel. How?

You can keep an eye on jobs at the National Geographic Society here and at National Geographic Channel here.

@persephone101 I love your shows like "Taboo" and "Known Universe." What's the average production time for one those shows?

The topic most often determines the production time for a show. Some shows can be produced in a matter of months, while others are years in the making.

@Smo2612 I want 2 know an update on the elephant man.

As soon as we have an update, we'll let you know! If any of missed China's Elephant Man, you can see clips here. The show will be re-airing in September.

@dogjoy3 I whant to know, what kind of wild life live in Cuba? And if the Gov has any conservation efforts in place.

National Geographic Magazine did an article about this very topic. You can find an excerpt of the article here .
