Yes my dog remembered me after quarantine!

Hi again, its been a few months since I asked and received some great pointers on what to expect when I got my dog back after she spent 7 months away from me, living with friends in Spain until she could complete her quarantine requirements before entering the UK. She must be one of the most travelled dogs - she was born in Fuerteventura, Canary Islands where she lived with us after we rescued her from the pound when she was about 9 months old. We returned to the UK in April this year and Abbi went to live with friends who were moving to Spain - (easier dog collection). She left Fuerteventura, travelled to Lanzarote, then to mainland Spain where she lived with them for 6 months. She was collected this last weekend by a great couple operating a dog transportation service, who drove up through the rest of Spain, through France to collect another dog, then through the Channel Tunnel to England where we met them. Abbi recognised my husband straight away and went into a "I love you" shaking fit. She ignored me - probably in a huff thinking I'd sent her away! She came round very quickly and its like we have never been apart. She remembers our commands and silly quirky things that we all do with our dogs, and its really great having her back. I would like to thank everyone who contacted me either through this forum or by direct email, for your help and encouragement. You gave me strength to solder on when I had down days and really missed the unconditional love Abbi always showed me. Thank you all again - and a big woof and a lick from Abbi !!

    Hi Leisurezone,
THANK YOU for coming back and sharing with us your HAPPY ENDING!!! :)
We love happy endings! I am so happy for you, now you are all together again, wow!!
I WAS SO SURE she would definitely recognise you very quickly and she did.
I'm sure that dog's have an in built "hard drive" where all important scents and smells are stored in, like the smell of their pack leader and other members of the pack etc.
The little time lapse before she "remembered" you was just the time it took her to recall your scent etc. from her "hard drive" :)
Just my personal theory you know :)

All the best to you and Abbi,
    Blizz

I also like happy ending! I think your dog might have been ticked, but they also only have one tail and one person to lick at a time. For the times my dogs were put in a kennel when I traveled, once seen, wetting floor most often happened.

Blizzard, your personal thought is not just you, it is science. 60% of a dogs brain is reserved for smells. They pretty much never forget a scent. Dogs are intelligent animals, and don't forger good or bad quickly, maybe never.

When I saw the dogs photo on the topic I instantly remembered it because I remembered thinking what a beautiful dog it was.

I can only say how happy I am to share in you your wonderful reunion excitement and that it all went much better then you thought it would. I can’t imagine going through that myself.

    YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
