African History Bias- Egypt was not the only civilisation in Africa
I am a 22 year old geologist from Jamaica. I am very fond of the NGC. However its hard to ignore the biases I see in terms of the exploration of African History. As a person of African decent living in the West Indies, most of my ancestors are from West Africa. And I know Africa south of the Sahara has a wonderful and rich history. Yet all I see on NGC is about Egypt and pharos and pyramids..WHY?? Is it that no research is done on ancient Sahel cultures? What about the great Nubian Kings and the Nok Kingdoms and those of Zimbabwe? I want to feel proud of my heritage too. it gives the impression that nothing else was going on in all of Africa except pyramid building! Come on people, do better than that. Dont be bias. highlight the ancient history of Sub-Saharan Africa before it was raped by Europeans. I see features on the Mayan and Astecs and every body else. Dont hide all the facts. I am making an appeal to those in charge to fix this bias, for the sake of millions of black kids who watch NGC. Let them have something to be proud of. THANK YOU.
