Locked Up Abroad: Barbados

Zara Whittaker knew she was smuggling drugs but she didn't know she was carrying a baby too.

Did you see the show or read the online interview with Zara? What do you think about her story?

It's a shame that the father is not owning up to his responsibilities.

What a story! You are blessed to have such a good mom and to have had your children waiting for you. You are a strong woman. Your story really touched my heart and I wish you and your family the best.

    Hi Sarah,
I wanted to tell you how brave I thought you are. Even though, you seem to be concerned with what people thought of you. I honestly believe people will see how brave you have been. I have two daughters. I can't imagine them being put into a place where they thought it was a good idea to smuggle drugs.

Zara - I always watch the program locked up abroad and i have never got emotional for anyone, but your different! I couldn't keep up with the tears. What made a difference for me was that you didn't try to blame anyone, you took responsiblity for what you did. Im sorry that you had to deal with that situation! As i was watching the show i was just hoping for some reason you made it through and you were able to collect to 10000 pounds and provide a better life for your son and son to be. But then you wouldn't be on the show...but anyway, thanks for sharing your story, it was very moving and touching. I liked what you said at the end, "if you want to provide a better life for your kids, just save the money for them." You hit the nail right on the head. I know this may be a cliche, but if i could do anything to help, i would love too!

I love this show, but I don't know if I could go thru what you and the others went thru in prison. It's hard to imagine, but I suppose you may have wondered the same thing once you were arrested. I was wondering if you have had any contact yet (to soon?) from others that have had their story featured on this show, particularly your fellow British subjects, thru this forum or some other way.

Zara - glad to see you made it in there and that your son is safe. Can't imagine how that whole ordeal must have felt. Take care and god bless.

It's so obvious Zara was set up. The two security guys at the airport made a beeline right for the two of them. That's not normal. They were tipped off. The dealers used them as decoys while another person got the drugs through.

i am from barbados and i watch the show and that touch me so much i start crying from the time i saw how there put on the drugs so tight i thought that the baby would die but that thought me a lesson that what you may seem as easy money is not always easy and the so called friends that get u in trouble is the ones that always leave you

    Dear Zara,
I have watched every episode of Locked Up Abroad so far. None of them have touched me the way your story did. I am a mom to a 3yr old boy and have another baby boy on the way. Being a young mom is so hard and not being able to give our children everything we feel they deserve can bring so much guilt and depression that its no wonder you were so vulnerable when offered relief. Everyone makes mistakes… especially in what we feel are desperate times. Not everyone is forced to pay such an enormous price. You and your family went through so much! I couldn’t ever fathom the guilt and sorrow you must have felt everyday for those four years. I was so happy to see at the end of the show when they showed you with your beautiful children. God bless you, your mother and your two beautiful baby boys as you move forward together.. Danielle

I also commend you for telling your story to help others who may find themselves in your situation. Im sure anyone considering commiting the same crime will change their minds after watching what you suffered.

I am from Barbados and I too was touched by your story. You made a horrible mistake and I'm sorry you have to serve the time for it, and go through the horror of having a baby in prison! But I'm glad you learned from it and I'm very glad that you have no hard feeling for our beautiful little island!

You were probably set up. in barbados, that tiny amount of coke is nothing...and the drug lords will use you as scapegoats to distract authorities while a much larger shipment goes through. I'm so sorry it happened the way it did for you, but everything happens for a reason! I hope you do come back to BIm and I hope your little boy loves the place of his birth!

Best of luck to you in the future!
